Honestly there could still be a playoff push if they IR him now. Starting 0-2 hurts, especially with those divisional games. But no one in the division looks especially good. Ravens are 2-0 and the best of the division so far, but even they haven’t looked great. Burrow misses 4 games, and they split those with the backups and end up at 2-4 they’re likely still in the division race at that point. Definitely puts them in a huge hole, but doesn’t eliminate them unless the rest of the division starts playing a lot better. Browns are minus their best player for the year, Steelers have a five year old with a crayon for an OC and missing a top defensive player for half the season. Provided Burrow plays well when he came back, they’d still potentially be in the race.
Burrow shouldn't have started the first two games they forgot it's a marathon not a sprint Chase had it right sit him until he is 100percent
Ja’Marr Chase (still) wants Joe Burrow to sit until he’s 100 percent During training camp, Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase urged quarterback Joe Burrow to not play until his injured calf muscle has fully healed, even if he missed five games over it. Now that the injury has become aggravated, Chase is advocating once again that Burrow not play until he’s fully and completely ready to go. Chase said plenty in an 82-second clip that made its way to social media on Friday, from a normal locker-room media availability. Asked whether he thinks Burrow will play on Monday night against the Rams, Chase said this: “I told him back then, don’t play until you’re 100 percent ready to play. So, I don’t know what he’s doing.” Was he 100 percent when he returned? “I doubt it,” Chase said. Asked to make a guess on whether Burrow will play, Chase called back to his prior advice. “If I had to guess, I would say no. I would say no because I been [telling] him no,” Chase said. Chase also raised eyebrows by seeming alarmed by the presence of Burrow on a golf cart with owner Mike Brown for an extended conversation. “We knew something was wrong right there. . . . That was different,” Chase said. Officially, Burrow was limited in practice on Friday. Since that’s a very broad and vague term, there’s no way of knowing what Burrow actually did. “He didn’t really throw too many footballs today,” Chase disclosed. So it’s not looking good, based on Chase’s comments. And Chase was right from the get go. Wait until the injury heals. Soft-tissue strains can dupe the athlete into thinking they’re healed before they are. Then the injury becomes aggravated. And it continues to be aggravated and re-aggravated and re-re-aggravated until the player shuts down long enough for it to fully heal. The smartest move for the Bengals would be to shut Burrow down through the next four games and the Week 7 bye. That would give him six weeks off to let it fully heal. By then, however, the Bengals could be in a very tough spot. They face the Rams, Titans, Cardinals, and Seahawks. What would 0-2 become? 0-6? 1-5? 2-4? For now, 0-2 counts as a red alert for Chase, who was asked whether the prospect of facing the Rams without Burrow counts as real adversity. “That’s adversity,” Chase said. “That’s 100 percent adversity. It’s stuff we never dealt with, and it’s not preseason. It actually counts. So it’s definitely adversity.” It definitely is. In an ultra-competitive AFC, it’s the kind of adversity that could make it very hard for the Bengals to get back to the playoffs.
C.J. Stroud off to one of best starts in NFL history for a QB Texans rookie C.J. Stroud is off to one of the best starts in history for a quarterback. He threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s 37-17 upset of the Jaguars, his first NFL win. That gives him 906 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions after three games. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to have at least 900 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in his first three career starts. His 906 yards are the third most through three starts behind only Cam Newton (1,012) and Justin Herbert (931). “I have great guys around me,” Stroud said, via DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. “Nothing I can do without those guys up front battling, the receiver running the right route at the right depth, [offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik] calling the right plays at the right time.” The Texans had the No. 1 overall pick in their back pocket until an upset of the Colts in Week 18 last January. That gave the Bears the top pick, dropping Houston to No. 2. The Panthers drafted Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, leaving Stroud as the consolation prize for the Texans. “The best thing that happened to the Houston Texans’ franchise was us beating the Indianapolis Colts last game, last year,” tight end Brevin Jordan told Bien-Aime. “We drafted the right guy. Man, he’s a leader. He’s a phenomenal player and a phenomenal guy with God-given talent. Dude, he’s unbelievable.” PFT
Patrick Mahomes became fastest player to 25,000 passing yards Sunday The presence of Taylor Swift in the crowd meant that Patrick Mahomes might not have been the biggest celebrity at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, but his day offered a reminder of why everyone turned out to watch him play. Mahomes went over 25,000 passing yards for his career on a third quarter throw to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling for 37 yards. Mahomes reached that milestone faster than any other player in NFL history and he continued climbing the ladder with a touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce to cap what turned out to be his final drive of the 41-10 win. “It really is cool,” Mahomes said at his postgame press conference. “I don’t think about that stuff, but to do it at Arrowhead . . . It’s a tremendous honor to be a part of this organization and be able to do stuff like that at this stadium. It’ll be stuff I remember the rest of my life.” Mahomes said it felt good to get the “whole offense going” after inconsistent play over the first two weeks of the season and the milestone is a reminder of just how hard the Chiefs are to stop when they’re firing on all cylinders. They’ll try to remain in the groove against the Jets next Sunday night. PFT
Sunday was a rough one for Commanders quarterback Sam Howell. Howell threw four interceptions and was sacked nine times by the Bills defense. Thats 19 sacks allowed through their first 3 games. Howel will face the Eagles front-four next week... pray for the man.
Wow... NINE sacks? I thought Atlanta's "blocking" for Ridder yesterday was bad, but 19 sacks in 3 games is surreal.
Chase had the right idea to begin with. Bengals have to look at the bigger picture even if it means sacaraficing this season. If it was playoff time and youre in maybe you look at it differntly. You definily look diffrent if you are in the SB. You dont however early in the regular season run him out there and risk it lingering all season and it ends up leading to a more serious injury.
Derek Carr week-to-week with AC joint sprain Derek Carr sprained his AC joint during Sunday’s loss to the Packers, Saints head coach Dennis Allen told reporters in his Monday press conference. “We’ll evaluate him as he goes throughout the week this week,” Allen said. “I think we dodged a bullet there in terms of anything of real significance. I think we’re kind of saying week-to-week. But, again, he felt better today than he did yesterday. “So, we’re not making any decisions today. We’re not ruling anything out. We’ll see where he’s at as the week goes on.” The Saints play the Buccaneers in Week 4 before taking on the Patriots in Week 5. Allen noted that Carr’s pain tolerance and functionality will determine when he can return. “All I can tell you is he was much better today than he was yesterday,” Allen said. “We’re going to continue to evaluate him and when he’s healthy enough that he can go out and perform and do the things he needs to do to give our team a chance to win, then he’ll be back in there. “So, I can’t tell you when that’s going to be. People heal at different rates. And there’s been players that have played with this injury in one week. There’s been players that it takes a couple weeks. So we’ll just have to wait and see.” Through three weeks, Carr has completed 66 percent of his passes for 636 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Jameis Winston replaced Carr on Sunday and finished the game, completing 10-of-16 passes for 101 yards. “I thought Jameis did some good things in the game,” Allen said. “Ultimately, we drove ourselves down there and gave ourselves an opportunity and we didn’t finish.” NBC
Jets HC Robert Saleh did not say whether or not the Jets would look into adding another quarterback this week after another bad outing by Zach Wilson. When asked whether the Jets would consider adding another quarterback this week, Saleh said that is a question for GM Joe Douglas. He also said the box score won’t tell the whole story of what we’ve seen over the last two weeks, despite Wilson’s poor box score stats looking like some of the worst in the league. Saleh has already committed to starting Wilson in Week 4 when his team takes on the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football on NBC, where the country can watch them fall to 1-3.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the Bengals are expected to elevate QB Reid Sinnett from the practice squad ahead of Monday night’s Week 3 matchup against the Rams. This will understandably grab the attention of fans and fantasy managers who are waiting for official word on whether or not Joe Burrow will play in Week 3. Fowler says in a post that elevating Sinnett “gives Cincinnati depth for the Rams game behind Joe Burrow, who’s been nursing a calf issue, and Jake Browning,” suggesting a decision on Burrow has not yet been made. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported earlier on Monday that there is “optimism” Burrow will play on Monday, but the decision to elevate Sinnett certainly raises some eyebrows. The Bengals have up until 90 mins before kickoff to decided whether or not to rule Burrow out for this week.
Raiders HC Josh McDaniels says Jimmy Garoppolo has entered the league’s concussion protocol. It’s a bit alarming to know Garoppolo is in concussion protocol when we consider he played the length of Sunday’s Week 3 loss to the Steelers. He was not available to speak to media after the game due to the team evaluating him for a concussion, and he will now have to clear protocol in time for the Raiders’ Week 4 matchup against the Chargers. Brian Hoyer is listed as the backup to Garoppolo on the depth chart, but rookie Aidan O’Connell could have an outside shot at earning the start after a strong preseason.
Just a few hours from kickoff, it’s still unclear if Joe Burrow will play in Monday night’s game against the Rams. Head coach Zac Taylor told ESPN’s Laura Rutledge at the stadium, “We aren’t ready to reveal a decision just yet and will wait a couple more hours before we make a call.” Cincinnati’s inactives are due at 6:45 p.m. ET, which is 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff against Los Angeles. Burrow was a limited participant in Friday and Saturday’s practices after tweaking his calf last week. If Burrow isn’t able to play, Jake Browning will make his first start. The Bengals also elevated Reid Sinnett from the practice squad just in case. NBC
Jets plan to sign QB Trevor Siemian The Jets are sticking with Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback, but they’re bringing in another backup. Veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian plans to sign with the Jets, pending a physical, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Siemian previously played for the Jets in 2019. Siemian most recently spent training camp and the preseason with the Bengals, but didn’t make their roster. He has also been with the Bears, Saints, Titans, Vikings and Broncos. In his NFL career, Siemian has started 30 games and gone 13-17 as a starter, throwing 42 touchdown passes and 28 interceptions. He joins Wilson and Tim Boyle on the Jets’ quarterback depth chart.
