The game film from some of his games last year was ROUGH. He was missing easy throws late in the season that cost them a playoff appearance. I'm not saying that he can't still be a top QB in the league - I think it's more between the ears for him than it is anything else - but he wasn't that last year. The idea that he's going to go for a massive haul of draft picks is based off of his legacy and the idea that he can be his old self, not his recent tape.

It's also based on the idea that he'll be back with Hackett. That worked out pretty well for him the last two seasons they were together...

To be honest, Im not sure, but the o-line wasnt bad in GB. Ranked 2nd overall by some writer at ESPN, PFF and the likes. Profootballnetwork has them way ahead of the Jets... Jets were actually ranked 29th for what its worth. I guess the Jets, from what ive read dont have a o-line comparable to GB, but who knows... that was last year and things change quickly.

Jimmy G has his contract worked out... officially a Raider.

Stafford was 33 and didn't have an albatross of a contract wrapped around his neck. Rams could extend him and structure anyway they liked. Rodgers will be 40 this year and was 90% retired two weeks ago according to him. It's apples and oranges.

I'm hoping he gets a legitimate shot to start. He has a bit of a lower ceiling from an athletic standpoint but he works hard and it's clear he can win over a locker room.

I agree, Rodgers is going to handcuff their cap and their ability to draft pieces they need. At 40 how much left in the tank, reminds me of when Favre went to the Jets.

Good Call, price is too high. The writing was on the wall week 2. Ravens were up big vs. the Dolphins, they let them back in the game. If you read the stats, LaMar had an awesome game. But here is where the film comes in. 4th quarter 3rd and 2 then 4th and 1, he ran twice and got stoned, Dolphins took over. A fifth of the 35 points Baltimore scored were when Duverney ran back a KIckoff. Jackson also got away with one as he telegraphed a throw and Xavien Howard jumped the route but dropped a sure pick 6. Jackson with the game on the line really did not help keep the D off the field. I give the D a lot of the blame, letting Hill get behind them twice for long TD's. But still you got a lead, up 21 in the fourth quarter and this dynamic QB who is asking for a quarter of a billion dollars can't get first downs and close out the game. No fancy onside kicks, no Miracle in Miami. This is the Debacle in Baltimore, with a rookie coach in this second NFL game. Not a good look.

So is the compensation… (1) first vs (2) first, (1) third and a starting qb.

Im not sure what you mean by Albatross of a contract either. In an age where Daniel Jones gets a 4 year $160M contract.. these numbers for Rodgers don’t seem out of range. Of course, for a first round pick trade to happen the Packers would have to be willing to pay a portion of that option bonus. I think how much is really what is holding up this deal. It will be done before the draft.

    Structure.

Jones' deal counts 21M against the cap in 2023, 45M in 2024 with the ability to restructure and make room if they want to hang on to him because he's 25 years old. Or they can walk and it didn't cost them any draft picks.

Rodgers' is due 58M in 2023. Yes, you can prorate it because there are void years built in but if he walks after 2023 he's going to count 44M against the '24 cap and you're out whatever compensation you gave up. The Packers are already on the hook for 40M in dead money. I don't see a scenario where they pay a portion of his bonus but I guess it's possible.

Browns Bring Back QB Joshua Dobbs on One-Year Deal

The Browns are signing quarterback Joshua Dobbs back to the team on a one-year deal, Dobbs’s agent Mike McCartney announced on Tuesday.

Dobbs was signed to a one-year deal with the Browns last April, in which he played as Jacoby Brissett’s backup quarterback until he was waived on Nov. 28, after Deshaun Watson returned to the team after his suspension. Watson missed 11 games last season due to violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The investigation came after a total of 26 civil complaints were filed against Watson, describing graphic accounts of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

Now Dobbs will backup Watson after Brissett signed with the Commanders last week. Dobbs has yet to make his Browns debut as he never took the field last season for Cleveland.

Dobbs started two games for the Titans after he was picked up in December. The Titans lost both games, in which Dobbs completed 40 of 68 pass attempts for 411 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Prior to last season, Dobbs played two seasons on the Steelers as a backup quarterback to Ben Roethlisberger. Dobbs has appeared in eight games over the course of his pro career.

Cam Newton Announces He Will Throw at Auburn’s Pro Day

After spending the entire 2022 season as a free agent, Cam Newton appears to be gearing up for a possible NFL return.

The veteran quarterback and 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player announced Monday in a video posted on social media that he will return to his alma mater Auburn to throw at the Tigers’s Pro Day on Tuesday. During the short clip showing Newton practicing, the 33-year-old also sent a message to prospective teams—and QBs around the league—regarding those who believe he’s not still capable of earning a roster spot.

“Tell me how these randoms keep getting jobs,” said Newton, a 2010 national champion and Heisman Trophy winner at Auburn. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll show you, I cant wait to show you.”

Newton later ended the video with a callback to a claim he first made in 2021 about his fellow QBs following a rocky ’20 season with the Patriots, saying, “Ain’t 32 motherf------ better than me. You dig?”

Monday’s announcement is the first news NFL fans have heard from Newton, who turns 34 on May 11, since the Panthers legend returned to his old team near the end of the 2021 season. Newton, the ’11 draft’s first pick, started five of his eight appearances in his second stint in Carolina, and recorded 684 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 230 yards and five scores.

A year prior, Newton struggled in his last full-time role as a starter in New England after signing a one-year deal with the club following his release from the Panthers. In 15 starts, Newton logged 2,657 yards, eight TDs and 10 interceptions, and rushed for 592 yards and another 12 scores

First of all, Ive always disliked Cam Newton, I think he is an overrated fucking clown. To hear him disrespect other QB's and organizations and at the same time call it a 'conspiracy' against him is just stoopid. The above couple of quotes he said are unacceptable to me and proves he's delusional at best.

He can drag his dumb self out there with a scarf like a woman on his head and embarrass himself if he wishes, but putting down people in the NFL when he was the underperformer, pointing fingers at others and acting like an ass isnt the way to do things in my opinion.

Representative not certified by NFLPA has contacted multiple teams on behalf of Lamar Jackson

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is free to speak with other teams. He currently isn’t. But someone on his behalf has.

Per multiple sources, a representative for Jackson has contacted more than one team in an effort to spark negotiations aimed at a possible offer sheet. The representative is not certified by the NFL Players Association.

As one source explained it, the person has said that Jackson does not want a fully-guaranteed contract. Some regard this as a possible exercise in semantics, with Jackson still wanting a very significant amount fully guaranteed — up to $200 million or more — with one more more non-guaranteed years on the back end.

Another source said that the representative is telling other teams that Lamar is ready to move on from the Ravens.

Obviously, the Ravens would have the ability to match any offer sheet signed by Jackson.

Last year, the NFL specifically instructed teams not to negotiate with representatives not certified by the NFLPA, when Saint Omni was allegedly contacting teams on behalf of then-Bears linebacker Roquan Smith.

“Clubs are reminded that, under Article 48 of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, Player Contracts may only be negotiated with the player, if he is acting on his own behalf, or with the player’s NFLPA certified agent,” the August 2022 memo explained.

Seems like a clear violation according to NFL written rules, so why is this happening?

  19. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Taking a phone call doesn’t constitute negotiations. If it’s not a discussion on specific monetary compensation or terms of contract in general, it isn’t a violation. Someone can call them and give them non-specific information just to get them to call the player directly.

  20. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Still confusing and questionable to me. A source stated that the person in question has stated that Jackson does not want a fully guaranteed contract... that seems borderline illegal to me, it is discussing said contract, but im no lawyer, lol.
