To get the 2nd year out of Trubisky I'm thinking 2yrs, 25Mish. It's not a competition if that's the deal. I could be way off. We'll see.

Teddy Bridgewater set to sign with Dolphins

The Dolphins have been linked to Teddy Bridgewater in past offseasons without adding him to their roster, but he is finally set to be making his way to Miami.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Bridgewater, who is from Miami, plans to sign a one-year deal with the Dolphins when the new league year opens on Monday. No other terms of the deal have been released.

Schefter’s report adds that Bridgewater is coming home in order to serve as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa. That seems realistic given the way head coach Mike McDaniel has talked about Tagovailoa since taking the job, but Bridgewater’s experience make him a viable option to step into the lineup should the Dolphins feel the need to make a change at any point.

With Bridgewater making his way to Miami and Mitch Trubisky settling on the Steelers, Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are the top quarterback free agents without attachments to teams at this
    point.

$25mil a season or for the total contract?

My initial thought would be that someone would sign him for around $10 to $15 per (earned $2.5mil while riding the pine). That low end number being right about what I would be comfortable with, the high end number being the absolute max.

If the Steelers did ink him to a contract for around what you are suggesting then yes, I can't see a scenario where it is truly an open competition.

But I see the 2 years more as a 'play well and earn more' type of contract. Mason signed a 2 year extension that basically gave the Steelers some balance through the transition out of Ben. It was never intended to lock him up but to give him an opportunity to earn the job. I could see Trubisky getting the same treatment. Basically, sign him for two years at a market rate that fits his actual worth with the incentive being that he could earn the starting job and a longer/larger contract.

IMO, It makes little sense to sign Mitch to a deal that guarantees him to be the starter before catching a flight into town with the resume he has, and less sense to gamble on it with a contract that would put him as the 16th highest paid player at his position (as reference - Derek Carr and Tom Brady average $25mil per).

WTF? Trubisky? Was the Steelers front office just coming down from a peyote trip when they signed this bum? We should have just rolled with Rudolph with his nose so bright, wonts you guide my offense tonight.

    No 12.5 per

Yeah we're in the same ballpark. Rudolph is making 3M this year.

I agree. The fact that Mason was willing to take that payday tells me he's not entirely confident he can be a starter either. Or why take the extension? Hit the open market.

Agreed. Never thought he was in the 25M a year range. But I think 2yrs, 25M signals at the very least it's his job to lose.

Or, it could be that he wants the opportunity to be the starter in Pittsburgh and was willing to forego the market in order to have a chance to earn that spot.

The Steelers and Mike Tomlin stuck by him through the accusations that Myles leveled. That was no small thing, and that kind of backing probably goes a long way with returning loyalty from a young, unproven player.

We’ll have to see what the final numbers are, but at $12.5mil per, I don’t see that as a closed competition. That seems like market value for a player that is still rehabbing his resume and not a total letdown if the gamble goes to the in-house guy.

You either get a starter on the cheap or a quality backup at a non-crippling price.

If we can run the ball like Tennessee then Trubisky or Rudolph could get this team deep into the postseason. But our oline is toilet paper.

Deshaun Watson reportedly will meet with Browns on Tuesday

Baker Mayfield could be getting upset.

The Cleveland Browns have sufficient interest in Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson to take a meeting with him. Per multiple reports, the Browns will sit down with Watson on Tuesday in Houston.

Tuesday will be a busy day for Watson, given that he’s scheduled to be grilled by lawyer Tony Buzbee in the civil actions pending against Watson. Word of the first lawsuit to be filed against Watson emerged 52 weeks ago today.

Despite the looming deposition, Watson met with the Saints and Panthers on Monday, also in Houston. Some would say his full focus should be devoted to preparing for his deposition. It will be an experience unlike any he had endured. And if it goes poorly, the teams currently interested in him may have second thoughts.

As explained on Monday, at least one potentially interested team realizes the potential significance of Tuesday’s testimony. All of them should, frankly. All should want to see the video and read the transcript of the many in which Watson faces what could be withering questioning from Buzbee.

Some folks with the Browns could be in line for some tough questions, too. Mayfield is the current starter, under contract through 2022 and recovering from surgery to his non-throwing shoulder. He has a fully-guaranteed salary of $18.8 million for 2022. If the Browns will be absorbing Mayfield’s $35 million salary, they presumably would want to unload Mayfield’s salary.

Potential destinations at this point would include, in theory, the Colts — and perhaps the other teams that met with Watson on Monday, the Saints and Panthers. Seattle also could be an option.

By trading Watson, the Texans would clear more than $24 million in 2022 cap space.

I dont know what the Browns are thinking and Im sure Baker isnt going to take this well. Could have the potential to create some very ill feelings from the Mayfield perspective. Just seems strange to arrange a meeting with a potential starting QB when allegedly Mayfield is the starter. Im guessing the Browns may not know for sure what Bakers intent is.

Just my opinion on the Trubisky, Rudolph thing.

It will create a healthy competition this year, which will motivate both QB's, or should. If I were to guess, Mason wins the job and Trubisky becomes the viable backup/clipboard holder for now. Im not sold on Haskins winning a starting spot, but he is a credible 3rd string backup which adds some depth in case of one of the top 2 going down to injury. Depth is very important in the NFL and the Steelers covered their bases at that position without spending a fortune.

That would put his base under what I would be comfortable with and his high end under as well, so that signing would suggest 4 things, IMO.
    1. Trubisky’s market was significantly cooler than reporting would have suggested
    2. Pittsburgh capitalized on that cool market with a team friendly deal
    3. This is still an open competition for the starting spot
    4. The Steelers are likely going with a position other than passer in the first round unless something crazy happens like Malik sliding

Aaron Rodgers Contract Details Released as QB Returns to Packers

It’s official. Aaron Rodgers has signed a new contract with the Packers, setting him up to return to Green Bay next season.

After conflicting reports about whether or not the reigning MVP had inked his deal last week, the extension became official on Tuesday morning. It will make Rodgers the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Rodgers’s new contract will reportedly pay him $150.8 million over the next three years, for an average of just over $50 million per year. The first two years of the extension are fully guaranteed at signing, and are due to pay him $42 million in 2022 and just north of $59.5 million in 2023.
