Adam LaRoche just retired from the White Sox because Ken Williams said he could no longer have his 14 year old son in the club house.

wow, that's crazy as he had 1 yr left on his contract deal. william's has been known to be a dick from time to time. my college buddies in chicago don't like him at all.

Some are saying 2017 is going to be a better Pirates team than this year also, Fish. The spring training games mean nothing. The Pirates even put Single A players in their lineups. You have to produce when it counts....Clint Hurdle said this is the best group of prospects since he's been here. Thats great to hear but I'll take a wait and see attitude, thank you......

Who wins the Central (NL) this year?

  6. Williams asked that LaRoche dial it back. His son had been in the clubhouse everyday last year and spring training (apparently he is "homeschooled") and had his own locker last year. Management decided 100% of the time is too much. Unless it is written in the contract, then I agree with Williams on this.

I agree. Theres no reason for a kid to be in a MLB clubhouse every day. Nobody else does it. What makes Laroche so special? And he's not even an original Cub. He's bounced around to about 5 different teams!

Thats good info... I hadnt heard that. Everyday, all the time is too much. In Detroit VMart's son is there a lot and Prince Fielder always had his son around too, but I dont think they were there all the time.

Anyway, it was one way to get rid of a contract, lol.

If the Cubs get the starting pitching and bullpen, I'd have to go with them. Theres a lot of ? though. Do you think Arietta will have the same year as last year? Will the other starters and bullpen come through? Too me, it all comes down to pitching. As we all know, good pitching beats good hitting........

Cubs, Cards and Pirates are going to be fun to watch and I think they will battle to the end.

Reds might lose 100+ in my opinion.

  11. The Cubs have the bullpen. It is probably the most underrated aspect of the team. It is starters that worry me. Lester will be solid but not great, Arrieta and Lackey won't be as good as last year. Arrieta will still be good, just not historic. Lackey, I don't trust 37 year old athlete's. 4 and 5 who knows. Hammel will be good for half a season, Hendricks, we'll see. He's got decent command, but his fastball doesn't top 90. If they struggle, Cahill, Wood, Richards and Warren all want to get back to starting, but there is a reason they are in the pen (and have excelled in the bullpen).

I'm not ready to bet on the Cubs. I don't see how the Cards don't take a step back (by step back maybe only win 90 games instead of 100), so I guess I'm saying the Pirates. Who knows, but it will be fun.

  12. I don't think we'll win 100 because I'll never predict anyone wins 100, but I'm interested to hear where you think we are worse in 2016 than in 2015. I personally like out team a lot more now than a I did at this point in 2015.

  13. For the record, my rough predictions as of now (they will change).

    Cards 94 wins
    Cubs 92 wins
    Pirates 88 wins
    Brewers 75 wins
    Reds 65 wins

somehow this is not a done deal...even though laloche says he's done, he said he needs a few days to think about it so he may change his mind and be a white sox in 16. people on the web chimed in and it was nasty - people saying where else can you take your kid to work everyday? not in an office etc. i guess that's right but baseball is different. i do love the home-schooled part. i think that's the biggest scam going besides "working from home!"

the central - the cards take it with wc's going to pitt and the cubs.

  16. LaRoche signed the retirement paperwork. The white Sox are giving him a few days to think before they file it.

This was a discussion on a local radio station this morning. Not sports radio, country music. It is crazy.

  17. You lost Heyward and didn't get anyone to fill his production.

You are counting on Holiday to stay healthy.

Peralta is out for 1/3 of the season.

Can you count on any of your starting pitching beyond Mike Leeke to stay healthy? The drop off your starters had in September was crazy. They hit September and they completely ran out of gas.

I know the Cards always reload. The guy coming up is somehow better than the guy who left. But I don't know how you think this team is going to be as good as last year's.

  18. Also of note, the City of Chicago has banned smokeless tobacco inside sporting venues.

joe maddon was not happy about it. chew can cause cancer, so this is a good thing. i know old time Joe Garagiola wanted it banned in all of baseball as it killed a friend of his after his friend lost parts of his jaw etc.

I don't think the Cards will be as good as last year either.........And I don't think the Pirates will be either. The Pirates need to get some of their younger pitchers some major playing time. They have talent. It needs to be expanded......

EDIt: Going out for a chew! :D
