The owners are nuts. A few of these guys could put their money together and buy a team. It's ridiculous!
well some of the lower teams...not the yanks, red sox, phils, cubs, dodgers and many other high price teams.
Hindsight is great and all. But in 2011 when Theo took over and started tearing down there was NO ONE there. The future looked God awful. Bryant and Schwarber had just started college. Russell was a freaking high schooler. 2012 and 2013 were hopeless for the Cubs. In 2013, I was talking more about their draft pick that any one else on the team. 2014 looked like a lot of the same, but from June on, they played .500/ball. Then it was worth looking at. 2015 was we better have a winning season (meaning 82 wins). To look back and say the future was coming is fine, but in the moment, it was oh God WTF is this team. It was a bunch of never-was guys.
mary - the 2 things the cubs have for them without any prospects - meaning erase all of them and have 0 - what do the cubs have going for them... 1 - the ownership money which is a ton of coin 2 - their GM rebuilt the Red Sox into multi-winning WS teams! that's a heck of a good start right there. add the pieces and a WS is coming to North Chicago! Cincy has neither of these!
Cincinnati is doing something, and something drastic, because I think they are slowly but surely seeing the light. They have been forced, do to seasons average to sub par baseball to almost blow it up and start from scratch. I also think that what their attempting wont take forever to accomplish either. Im glad the Reds are cleaning house, because it sure beats just doing the same ol' nothing and expecting good results. Cincinnati also has some real good examples to follow right in their own division/backyard and I think they see what the rest of the Central has done and now realize they better do something to try and keep up.
Will-werent they playoff contenders before? I know the Phils beat them in 10 or 11. 5 yrs later and they are stripping the club of their assets and rebuilding. that's a fast decline. to me chapman, votto, frazier, leake etc were worth building around right now to contend vs trading them all off minus votto and sucking for the next 5 yrs.
I understand your points and their good. Im just saying with the core players you mentioned, it just isnt getting it done, so therefor I believe their hand was forced to make some drastic moves. The Reds were contenders a while back, but the competition in the Central flew passed them and left them in the dust...
well i hope the new regime whenever it comes will be better than the old one and will be able to contend. imo i don't think replacing chapman, frazier and company will be so easy.
The San Francisco Giants announced Thursday afternoon they had agreed to a three-year contract with free-agent outfielder Denard Span. The deal, which is pending a physical, is worth $31 million -- working out to $10.33 million per season, Giants general manager Bobby Evans says. Span batted .301 with a .796 OPS with 11 stolen bases in 61 games for the Washington Nationals in 2015 amid injuries. He had three surgeries in a 10-month span, including one this offseason on his left hip. With the free-agency process taking longer than desired, Span recently published a video of him jumping over hurdles in order to "prove" his health.
where did the giants get all this F/A money? they still got posey, bum and others from their ws teams minus fat panda and still buying guys at will. jeez.
Jays trade Ben Revere and a player to be named to the National for Drew Storen. I guess the Jays intend to have Pompey replace Revere but does Storen make sense?
The NL Central has been one of the toughest divisions for a few years now.......All you have to do to make it easy is look at the 2 WC teams the last 2 years........
i don't get it. they will have that cancer papelbon close for them now! ugh. i would rather have a boil on my ass than that cancer in the locker room.
The Cardinals have signed "The Final Boss," a Korean closer. Apparently he's pretty good, watched some tape on him, wicked breaking pitches.
i can't keep up with these cubans signing and now these korean and japanese signings. etc. i need a roadmap. as for St. Louis, the best organization in baseball, so this guy is probably a hidden gem stud in the making as per their usual.
I read that yesterday or the day before and thought $80 MIL. was ridiculous. He has yet to to do anything in the MLB in the states. I hope he flunks out. If he doesn't, we all know that eventually the Marlins like to to have fire sales........
