Cant see why thats not a bad idea. Everyone is always trying to one up the other guy and when success is accomplished, its very enviable.
I was going to bring that up, Will. How would the Reds fans react if they traded Votto? They already have Frazier on the block......
Joey isnt going anywhere I hope. Phillips is on the block and Frazier has already been dealt to the Chicago White Sox.
I'm confused. the Reds are trading everyone away but Votto! Frazier is gone. Now Chapman etc. What path are they following? Trade every star we have and be in the basement till the picks work out? That doesn't sound smart. The Cubs thanks to brilliant drafting had studs in waiting and now are ready. Who do the Reds have waiting? I would be pissed if I was a Reds fan. Chapman didn't even for for the Yankees top prospects. to me the core was frazier, votto, Philips, leake, bailey and chapman!
jeez-they are getting everyone - good or bad. it's like no one else is signing anyone. rumor - white sox are strongly after alex Gordon and yoenis cespades!
That would be some big bucks landing those 2. Do they have the money and how's their pitching? I don't follow the AL much at all.........
This is their starting rotation... 1. C. Sale 2. J. Quintana 3. C. Rodon 4. J. Danks 5. E. Johnson 6. J. Turner I guess they must have the money and the pitching outside of Sale is average at best. Going to slug their way, I guess.
I can tell you from the Pirates Will, that you need pitching also. There is no way the best slugging team will win the WS. You'd be better off with pitching and defense if anything, imo......
yeah the white sox are light on pitching vs other teams.... you can have all the hitting in the world, but you need pitching to close down the other teams late in the game...
Talk about revisionist history. No, the Cubs didn't have their studs waiting when they traded Zambrano, let Rameriez walk, traded Garza, etc. There was nothing in the minors when Theo took over 5 years ago except for Baez and he was at low a ball and Andrew Cashner whom they promptly traded for Rizzo. Bryant was drafted in 2013, Schwarber 2014, Russell traded for in 2014, Soler signed in 2012. Arrieta and Strop traded for in the "flip this pitcher" Scott Feldman. There was nothing on the farm but Brett Jackson and Andrew Cashner. They stripped everything down as far they could go. It seems to have worked. Not all of them are going to hit. But if you suck for 5 years and you draft well, then you just need a couple hits. The biggest reason for the success IMO was being able to flip the pitchers. They were able to sin guys to a 1 year deal looking to turn around their careers. Bosio worked wonders with them and buy the trade deadline, they were with contenders and the Cubs had prospects. That helped rebuilding the farm as much as the draft.
zambrano? how long ago was he a Cub? just saying i don't think what the reds are doing is smart. and i can't imagine the hit their fanbase is taking.
That is my point. Zambrano, Garza, and Ramirez were all on the team when Theo took over. They traded/allowed to walk as part of the tear down. 2011 was his last year. You said the Cubs had players waiting in the wings when they tore it down, they did not. Garza was out in 2013. Ramirez was 2011. There was no one there when they left.
ok Mary - but the future was coming as you said in 12, 13 and 14. what the hell do the Reds have ? i don't agree with what the Reds are doing. that's my 2 cents. the phils are bad but they are not completely stripping down the car for new parts. they got parts already through deals and drafting. they are not starting over from scratch. cincy seems to be.
After dipping his toes in the free-agency pool, homegrown star Alex Gordon is coming back to the Kansas City Royals. Gordon and the Royals agreed to a multi-year contract Wednesday, a move first reported by Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com, who covers the team for its own website. The deal is pending a physical and is expected to be announced sometime today. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports the deal is for $72 million over four years. The deal is the richest contract in team history, surpassing the previous set by Gil Meche and Mike Sweeney, at five years for $55 million.
