    im not surprised. sorry Pete.

  2. So you can cheat, but don't bet on baseball. Got it.

there is a sign in every major and minor league clubhouse. the #1 rule on the sign is NO GAMBLING.

Sadly Pete thought he could ignore the rules and make himself non-exempt from them. He lost and is paying the ultimate price for his negligence and greed!

I'd bet he didn't think the punishment would be this severe or carry on this long, but it has.

The latest news that came out a few months ago (that I honestly thought was already known but before then was only rumour) was when I new he had zero chance.

  6. Drafted as a catcher, too good of a hitter and way too bad of a catcher to be a big league catcher. They're teaching him LF but he's pretty bad at that. It doesn't help that he's built like a fire hydrant.

  7. Bryce didn't put up the best lip syncing performance I've seen, but that was pretty cool that he made that little girls day.

The Cubs are a puzzle to me. They have a ton of good pieces I just don't see how they all hit together. Maybe they'll turn into a great team, but I think its an oddly built roster.

Glad Rose isn't allowed back. The rule is pretty clear, it's a lifetime ban. He's not above the game.

  8. I assume you are referring to PED's. The rules on PED's weren't very clear until very recently, and in fact weren't illegal at all for a long time. Pete knew the rules, he chose to break them. The rule states that the punishment was a lifetime ban, it's postsed in every locker room. There were no punishments laid out in the rules for PED's. So while I wouldn't mind making a rule saying that PED's get a lifetime ban and then anyone who fails a drug test gets that. You can't give it to guys who did it before that rule was written though.

    Giants aint messin' round...

  14. Does anyone else feel like the Giants rotation really isn't that scary? The pitching staff is huge in name but are they actually good?

    MadBum - stud
Cueto - historically very bad in the 2nd half. Had 1 good 2nd half in 2014.
Samardzjia - had 1 good year (2.99 ERA) and hasn't even sustained anything close to that. 4.09 career ERA.
    Peavy - soon to be 35. Last 6 years ERA: 4.63, 4,92, 3.37, 4.17, 3.58. There's 2 pretty good years in there, but that's not inspiring.
Cain - Thrown 151 combined innings the last 2 years. Has had an ERA over 4 each of the last 3.

Bumgarner is the only one I see effective through the whole season! The rest, a waste of money.......

Some of these contracts that are being handed out to the top players are ridiculous. If they have a bad year they can opt out and if they have a good year they can stay, it's up to them? Are you freakin kidding me!? The owners are giving the players a stronger foothold in the game. I mean let's face it. You don't have to even be good to sit on the bench and be a substitute all season. And make more money than the average every day workin class guy.....I think eventually, these type of contracts will be the downfall of MLB! Ihope so!!!!!

  20. I don't think you can judge his left field yet. He's been pretty limited in his work there. He spent all his time I. The minors last year catching. They brought him up to DH and he hit well. Then Montero got hurt and so they thought what the heck, let's bring him up to catch. While his catching defense was bad, he improved in those 3 weeks (he never caught Lester or Arrieta). His bat was so good that when Montero came back, they moved him to left after not playing there in almost a year. He played well defensively until the playoffs. I watched almost every game last year - particularly August and September and I don't remember any plays until the playoffs that made me cringe. He's not as athletic as Bryant, but he's more athletic than he looks.

As for the team make up, is it a perfect product? No, but while it is built to win now, it is also a work in progress. The Cubs are going to counting on at least 3 and probably 4 second year players to have a huge impact. While these guys are insanely talented, the pressure is sky high. Now they've added parts that "help want to end the World Series drought". That is a lot of pressure. While Bryant is a more complete package (although he isn't great defensively), Russell and Schwarber each are really only complete on part of the package - Russell defensively and Schwarber offensively. All 3 are heads up baserunners and play hard. They work hard and want to be great.

Maddon is so good at putting pieces together. I have never seen anything like it in baseball. I didn't know much about him until he came to Chicago. But I am a believer because there is no way that team wins more than 85 games with another manager. None.
