  5. And the overpaying has begun. Really, it started with Happ.

  6. Cueto reportedly turned down 6-years $120M from Arizona. If Zimmermann can get $24M then Cueto may get close to $30M. I don't want to even think about Price or Greinke.

Its utterly ridiculous. I cant see how this can be sustained.

jeez 3 yrs? he stunk 3 years ago and is not worth half of that deal!

  9. Catfish Guest

yeah exactly what i said about scherzer and price vs hamels when igloo kept saying hamels isn't worth it. hamels is a BARGAIN compare to those deals and future deals!

  10. TV contracts.

  11. Hamels isn't worth the prospects Philly wanted. The money isn't bad, but the combination of the 2 is steep. No Hamels worth $30/year? No. $22? Sure. Whats the monetary equivalent on those prospects? That's what you have to figure out, not to mention every team with long term, sustained, success was built through young player development.

well texas thought so and got hamels for cheap compared to these deals coming in and controlled for 4 yrs. i think it's 3 now. they gave up solid prospects. and i still stand pat on boston not giving up blake swihart and mookie betts. like billy ripken said "they're just prospects!" "swihart is totally unproven". oh and btw - he did zilch in his call up!

    johnny cueto! please.

The Red Sox have agreed to a seven-year, $217 million contract with free-agent pitcher David Price, The Boston Globe reported on Tuesday. The club has not confirmed the deal.

The contract would be the largest ever for a pitcher, narrowly topping Clayton Kershaw's $215 million extension with the Dodgers and the $210 million deal Max Scherzer signed with the Nationals last offseason.
Price went 18-5 with a 2.45 ERA in 32 starts for the Tigers and Blue Jays last season. The 30-year-old left-hander, the 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner with the Rays, is 104-56 with a 3.09 ERA over eight seasons, making five All-Star teams.
The deal includes an opt-out clause after three years, according to FOX Sports.

  14. A call up isn't much to base a guy on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Just look at the 2 Matt Holliday trades. He's been traded for "just a prospect" twice, once for CarGo, once for Brett Wallace. You can trade prospects, but you better know how to evaluate and develop talent. It's very hard for us to know what's worth it and what's not because we don't know how teams rate young guys.

    wow. good luck with that.

  16. Catfish Guest

    $30 MIL LESS! WOW!

  17. Assuming Price pitches 200 innings each year of the contract (doubtful), he'll make $10,000 each PITCH he makes.

I need to get my almost 6 year old pitching. ;)

mary - make sure he's a leftie. less of them and easier to get drafted as a leftie who can throw heat.

  19. Well he insisted on batting left-handed during T-ball this summer. Throwing left-handed might be a stretch though.
