    6-4, final.

  8. With all this chatter I seem to have forgotten, what team won the most game this season?

  10. Oh right, thanks Will.

  11. It don't mean a thing if you don't get that ring. :p

(For the Jays, Cubs, Mets, and possibly Astros, just making the playoffs is enough. For the Cards, no way.)

  13. This is stupid. If just making the playoffs is enough then do you look back at '03 with fond memories?

yeah it's bring home the ring or don't come home...

  15. I meant this year. This year, for the Cubs I don't think of it as ring or bust. It is the beginning. They were only suppose to win 80 some games. Next year, expectations rise.

the future with all those young guys does look good in Cubbie land...

  17. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Yankees-Orioles and Nationals-Mets both postponed. Marlins and Phillies too...

  18. Arrieta's night ends. 6 IP, 2 hits, 0 BB, 0 ER. 20 consecutive quality starts. And before someone says that doesn't matter, then why hasn't anyone else done it recently? For that matter why are the radio guys on the local ESPN affiliate even debating if Arrieta is starting in the WC? My goodness morons. Get your head out of Hawkeye football and pay attention.

Arrieta's ERA is 1.77. Does it matter that Grienke's is 1.68? If Grienke gives up 2 runs and his ERA goes up, does it matter? Arrieta has not missed a start all year. I don't know how you choose. Average numbers for the season are so close. Arrieta's second half was historic. But Grienke hasn't had a start with his ERA in the 2s. I find that pretty damn impressive too. They are both so deserving. Too bad they can't tie.

  19. I just can't believe anyone plays this sport at the major league level for less that a world championship.

The final division winner? LAA@TEX, 1:05 p.m. ET
The Angels will send Hector Santiago to the mound as he tries to improve on his 7.94 ERA over his last three outings. For Texas, Colby Lewis gets the start, trying for his career-best 18th win this season. The Rangers can win their sixth AL West title Saturday afternoon with a win or an Astros loss.

Astros on the verge of postseason return: HOU@ARI, 8:10 p.m. ET
While their elimination number to win the division is down to just one, the Astros still control their own postseason chances with two games remaining. Any combination of wins or Angels losses equaling two secures a spot in Tuesday's AL Wild Card Game, so if both Texas-based teams win Saturday, the postseason field will be complete with the Rangers clinching the division and Houston taking on the Yankees in the one-game playoff. Collin McHugh will start for the Astros; he's 9-2 with a 3.27 ERA over his last 13 games. Arizona's Jeremy Hellickson takes the mound opposite McHugh, seeking double-digit victories for the fourth time in his six-year career.

Pirates capture home field? CIN@PIT, 7:05 p.m. ET
Chicago will be playing at the same time in Milwaukee, so Pittsburgh will be scoreboard watching as right-hander A.J. Burnett seeks to lock up the home-field advantage. Burnett owns a 3.68 ERA in four starts since returning from the disabled list on Sept. 10. Reds lefty Brandon Finnegan, who arrived in Cincinnati via the Johnny Cueto trade, has a 6.00 ERA in three starts for his new club, allowing five home runs.

NL East pitching duel: WSH@NYM, 7:10 p.m. ET (second game of twin bill)
The Mets already won the battle for the NL East over the Nationals, but there still is reason to keep an eye on the second game of the teams' doubleheader at Citi Field. For one thing, the Mets are battling the Dodgers for home field in the NL Division Series. For another, this will be Matt Harvey's final regular-season start, as he faces Nats ace Max Scherzer. Harvey surrendered seven earned runs to Washington on Sept. 8 -- in a game the Mets rallied to win -- but otherwise has a 1.65 ERA over his last 16 starts. His much-discussed innings count for the season currently stands at 183 1/3. After struggling for much of the second half, Scherzer has bounced back with a 2.12 ERA over his past four outings, striking out 34 in 29 2/3 innings.
