Im a firm believer in a thing called, consequences. He is ultimately responsible for his actions. I personally dont want to see him get a year off, but if he does, it's brought on by him. In rehab, i studied 'enabling' which is sometimes a tough thing not to do, but it always seems to be the best idea to let the chips fall where they may. I think the best thing for him now, like you eluded to, is to just get help. That should be all that concerns him and all that he lives for... at least thats what works for me. If i dont have my whole heart into it, it isnt going to go well.
You cant run around doing drugs in baseball anymore. He was and is a coke user. Im pretty sure you know the difference from getting tanked on booze, which is legal, to getting ripped on illegal drugs. It's kinda simple. What professional athletes do outside of the game is important and has to be regulated.
Will, I hear ya on consequences. I won't feel bad for him no matter what he gets, but I don't really see it as that necessary. He has to get what the rules say he gets, but I don't see a reason to give him an overly stern punishment, just something on the lower end of the range of possible sentences.
Mut, I couldn't tell ya? I don't use phones at all. Especially these carry-around ones that fit in your pocket. I hate phones, but thats just me. People hold up traffic, talk in the grocery store so everybody can here what their saying, etc. Then the companies come out with a new one all of the time. It's all a money making gimmick for the phone companies. If I want to call someone, I wait until I get home on a land line phone. I have no idea what Faceboof, Wifi or twitter is. Another way to communicate I guess? Don't need it and don't want it. I guess you could say I'm old fashioned. Another thing I also know is the government has no idea what I do outside or where I am! *THUMBSUP*
igloo, my job is driving around to all my accounts all day so even if I didn't want it I'd have to have a cell phone.
Thu, Apr 2 Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that commissioner Rob Manfred is waiting on an arbitrator to see if he has the authority to discipline Josh Hamilton. Exactly my point. Personal life is off the clock and not a part of his baseball life. Advice: If the arbitrator decides that Hamilton violated baseball's drug policy, Manfred is expected to hand down a suspension of unknown length. If they decide baseball's drug policy wasn't violated, Hamilton's case would be considered closed and he would be free to play.
igloo- you don't know what facebook, twitter and wifi are but yet you're on the internet and using websites? and if you have cable at home for your computer, you have wifi and don't even know it.
Major League Baseball's drug policy?the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program?was established by agreement between the MLB Players Association and the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball. The goal was to deter and end the use of banned substances, including anabolic steroids and other illegal drugs, and to "provide for, in keeping with the overall purposes of the Program, an orderly, systematic, and cooperative resolution of any disputes that may arise concerning the existence, interpretation, or application" of the policy itself. The Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program was adopted in the Spring of 2006. While the Health Policy Advisory Committee (HPAC) can make recommendations to the Office of the Commissioner regarding punishment, it has no power to discipline players for violations of the drug policy, except to place them in the appropriate treatment programs. Such authority belongs to the Office of the Commissioner. Under the policy, all players are prohibited from using, possessing, selling, facilitating the sale of, distributing, or facilitating the distribution of any Drug of Abuse and/or Steroid. Any and all drugs or substances listed under Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act are considered drugs of abuse covered by the Program. Players who require prescription medication can still use it with a "Therapeutic Use Exemption" granted by the MLB. will - then why is the commish doubting his own power then? see above^^^^^^ "he has to see if he has the authority" sounds to me like he doesnt know if he can suspend hamilton or not. maybe the players association? i dunno.
Because, via his employment, he's a representative of the game of baseball. That's just the way it is when you're in a public profession. The sport needs to continually project a positive image to promote the game and attract new fans; having alcoholics and drug addicts as your marqee players is a no-no.
Fish, if I could shoot every person who was driving and talking on a cell phone and holding up traffic, I would be a mass murderer! Thats about the best way I can tell you my feelings about cell phones..... %)
Mut, I went to the Pirates website and didn't see their own app listed. They do have others that you can probably download anywhere. MLB would probably be the best one, I guess? I don't know, I'm not into cell phones, hahaha
Simple, he's not Julias Ceasar. He knows that he has to follow a certain protocol. Many legalities and options are available and he simply cant side-step the system and arbitrarily just hand out punishments.
will - guess what - espn just announce no suspension or discipline action will be taken on j. hamilton!
it was a tie vote so they called in a arbitrator to break the tie. i dont get it either axe. based on what will posted it's pretty cut and dry to what you can or cannot do. he's guilty, yet he gets off. i read from cbs that the commish's office is not happy about this at all and look to change the wording in the book about it. to me he was guilty and somehow got let off.
Not MLB but pretty sweet. Korea. On YouTube the pitch before that is even better. It actually looks like it is going to hit his arm before it suddenly curves down and away right into the strike zone.
