Pretty Damn good, I would guess. I think it is the big stage that he is cranking it up. Maybe he's still pissed he wasn't an all-star.
all my college buddies from chicago are so happy about the cubs...i tell them... bartman on line #1 !
Cubs KC, Ventura has a perfect game through 5. Hendricks is shutting out the Royals through 5 as he tries to prove he is worth a post season start (if the Cubs make it past the WC game).
For those who only think Kris Bryant can do is hit, take a look tonight. He gets down to first base in a hurry (beat out an infield hit) and he is now playing is 4th position in the field. He may not be a gold glover anywhere, but he does all the little things right. Sure he strikes out a lot, but he also walks a lot.
And the Cubs get a walk off home run to end their season at home. Oh and an 11 inning game lasted less than 3 hrs. Great pitching duel and great ending.
It's almost magical what some of these playoff teams are doing. Should make for one of the better Post Seasons in a long time.
Eh. Alex Gonzalez booting a routine ground ball was more important to how things ended. But go ahead and continue to villanize an average fan who did what anyone else would have done. As heartbreaking as 2003 was, it felt like they were going to have more chances with Wood, Prior and Zambrano. 2008 was more disappointing IMO. They were the best team in the NL all year that year and COMPLETELY laid an egg in the playoffs. They scored like 1 run. And you knew they were getting older and there wasn't much time left. As a Cubs fan, no matter what happens, this year has been a bonus year. It has been tremendously entertaining. They have been in most games. They have played a lot of close games. Madden's quotes are awesome. We knew Bryant and Soler would be playing regularly. But no expected almost an entire year of Russell and Schwarber has been a complete surprise. Rizzo has had some crazy highlights - the tarp catch, the disappearing slide. And Arrieta being better than all those pitchers on '03. Would I be disappointed if the Cubs were one and done? Of course. Do I think they have a chance to go all the way? Every team has a chance. It is just who gets hot. And just because I am on a roll. I am so sick of people who call the Cubs chokers. You have to be in it to choke. Most years of my 33 year life, the Cubs haven't been competitive enough to choke. So what '84 and '03 they choked? Yeah, that is really choking. My other pet peeve of Cards fans is the "oh the Cubs made the playoffs for the first time since Julius Ceasar". Like WTF. Are you that bad at math? 7 years is not Julius freakin Ceasar. OK rant over.
mary -- cubs fans when they are winning like this year seem to come out of the woods in support, whereas most years, they stay in the woods. i think non-cub fans dislike this. that's why i posted the pix of bartman. you're 1 bartman away from losing again. make a playoff run like other teams and bask in your success. go 1 and done and continue to face the wrath of fans. my 2 cents.
I've kept my mouth shut about the Cubs most of the last 5 years. It doesn't make me less of a fan, it means there was NOTHING good to say about the team until about the All star break of last year. What was I going to say to the Cards fans who my neighbors the last 5 years as they won the WS and went to the playoffs every year. There is NOTHING to say. You can't talk smack when you are the worst team in baseball. OK maybe Phillies fans do, but you've at least won a world series recently. If you notice, I'm very careful not to say smack about the Pirates and the Cards. No, the Cubs are not one Bartman away. That is stupid. A booted ground ball? Possibly, but come on man. The playoffs are a series of one clutch hit, bad defensive play. The Red Sox were considered cursed until they weren't. What is difference between them in 2004 and the Cubs?
i am a phillies fan and i just talk. i don't talk smack bc the phils stink. the bartman is a metaphor to bad luck is brewing. you were on your way to the WS. then the bartman thing happens, and then the wheels fall off. Your SS boots an easy grounder and you lose game 6, Bartman gets basically run out of town and ostracized for life when the other fan had just as much blame of touching that ball. yet cubs nation choose to blame bartman. the guy is the most hated man in the city and changes his address, job and name on credit cards. it took years for moises alou to look at the play over again to make a public apology to bartman as espn relived the moment and had alou jump up against that wall when bartman touched the ball and they showed the height to where alou would've to jump to get it. all of this and cubs lose game 7 too. what the cubs did to bartman is KARMA! and me saying you're 1 bartman away from losing is KARMA for what they did to him! Don't you guys still blame the billy goat or some shit like that? side note - worked at a job with mark prior's sister the year of bartman. of course he was a huge prospect that year etc. well it got out they were brother and sister and 1 VP started barraging her with questions about her brother. she hated it. they weren't close and rarely spoke and wasn't in her wedding. i never spoke to her about her brother out of privacy but others did and she said "i don't talk to him, so stop asking me about him!" she transferred out to our LA office years ago. thank God.
What is difference between them in 2004 and the Cubs the red sox won then and added more titles since. the cubs are still waiting since the early 1900's!
But my point is look back at 2003/2004. At the end of 2003, the narrative of was well the Cubs and Red Sox are still cursed. In 2004, the Red Sox changed their narrative. There is nothing that says the Cubs can't either. To say Bartman is the most hated man in Chicago is ludicrous. Yes his name was poorly treated for years. But it has been 12 years. Smart fans know it was a hell of a lot more than that. Alou was baby about the situation. Most of this year's Cubs team wasn't even in puberty when that happened. Do you think they care? Do you think Maddon is going to let them dwell on the history of the team? He "doesnt vibrate on that frequency". He also " never allows the pleasure to out weigh the pressure". If you believe in Karma for the 2003 incident than, they got us back in 2007 and 2008 in spades. Then the worst 5 years in franchise history followed all of it. If you want to talk Billy Goat curse, the story goes that the Cubs would not allow a man to bring his Goat to a game and he supposedly cursed the team. How is that any different than the "curse of the bambino" that the Red Sox lived by until 2004? Why are so hung up on something that didn't happen to your team? This is dumb. Talk about something real, like the Cubs have to get passed presumably the Pirates in the WC. And then how are they going to manage without a third starte assuming they make it. Let's talk about how Maddon is managing throwing essentially a right lineup and a lefty lineup. Or how Castro for all his faults has taken his benching like a man and turned his season around? False narratives suck. Let's stick to the facts.
