Back to Thursday's sweep for the Bucs over the Rockies. Some stats on the 4th game of that sweep. Marte ties Pie Traynor with 13 hits in a 4-game series which has stood since 1928 for the franchise record. It was also the 10,000 win for the Pirates franchise, becoming the 5th team in the NL to reach that mark. The other 4? Giants, Cubs, Braves, Dodgers...... *DRINK*
Don't know Will? Thats what they said on the Pirates broadcast Thursday. You can probably google it and find out. I'm a little surprised the Cards aren't on it? *SCRATCH*
From 'Baseball Reference'; Overall (10320-10015 W-L, 1882 - 2015) - 5 World Championships, 10 Pennants, and 15 Playoff Appearances. So there ya go. I just thought they were in that list do to the fact they are about the oldest team in sports history.
The Reds were the 1st team in baseball. Maybe they were just talking about regular season wins? I don't know? *DONT_KNOW* Edit: The Pirates still have their sights set on winning the division though. We'll see how the rest of the series goes between the Cubs and Monday starts a 3-game series with the Cards at PNC and ends with the Reds on the road in Cincy......
they ARE on it. the pirates were the 7th team in the NL to reach 10K wins, not the 5th. u really need to stop getting "facts" from pittsburgh broadcasters. this isn't the first time this has happened
lol, took the words right out of my keyboard. Probably goes for any broadcast. Sitting in a booth doing a game while drinking alcohol, your liable to hear just about anything... unless you were Ernie Harwell, of course. In his case it was ice cream.
Maybe the Pirates broadcast were only looking at wins under the same name. For example the Cardinals win breakdown: St. Louis Cardinals (9387-8619 W-L, 1900 - 2015) St. Louis Perfectos (84-67 W-L, 1899) St. Louis Browns (1060-1029 W-L, 1883 - 1898) St. Louis Brown Stockings (37-43 W-L, 1882) Overall (10568-9758 W-L, 1882 - 2015) So the franchise has over 10,000 wins, but under this name the "St Louis Cardinals" do not. EDIT: Also, according to Baseball Reference, the Pirates now have 10,237 wins. Pittsburgh Pirates (9796-9442 W-L, 1891 - 2015) Pittsburgh Alleghenys (441-617 W-L, 1882 - 1890) Overall (10237-10059 W-L, 1882 - 2015)
Last time Arrieta pitched on Sunday night baseball, he pitched a no hitter. For his follow up.... Well, go check it out. He has hit a home run
Yeah, I know, no problem Will. Just reporting what they say without looking into it myself. Lulz is also right but sometimes they are talking about a different specific as Mut brought up....So some of their stuff can be hard to get a handle on..... *PARDON*
It will be tuff for the Pirates to beat him in a WC game and move on. He's that good. The Buc's had won 7 in a row so I certainly didn't feel good about their chances against Arrieta and due for a loss also......
