Speaking of Molina... is he still playing? I heard he was hurt. Just wondering what his status is.

  4. Very slight ligament tear in his left thumb. He actually finished the inning before coming out of the game so I can't imagine it's terrible. He said its more sore than anything. On Monday they said he'll be reevaluated in 5-7 days and would likely play again in the regular season.

  5. Yadi is only 33? I thought he was 35+. I'm 33. No way I thought we are the same age.

Well Mut. Lets put it this way. It's not going to get any better at that age. Most players are considered to be on the downside of their career at that age, but there are exceptions to every rule.....Only time will tell.....

  7. He's in his 12th big league season, he came up when he was 21.

never saw bench play. in the era i watched the most, pudge threw out runners at a great %. not sure if it's the best, but to me you didn't attempt to steal on him.

all i will say about berra is many people said without him, the yankees don't win all those world series, so that's saying something about him...

I was fortunate enough to see the 'Big Red Machine' several times and Bench was fun to watch play... not quite as exciting as 'Charlie Hustle, tho.

my apologies to Royal nation. I said their playoff run last year was a fluke and wouldn't make the playoffs this year. I WAS WRONG. My apologies...

Congrats on the AL Central Title.

It takes a real fish to admit he's wrong. :)

  12. That makes sense then. I've had to hear his name mentioned weekly during baseball season since I was 21. I should drink more. Maybe it wouldn't seem like forever.

My favorite Yadi moment was when Ted Lilly bowled him over at a play at the plate in like '07 in late August. It was the best... Ya know back when you could have collisions at the plate.

Disgraced former major leaguer Pete Rose will find out if he will be reinstated by the league within the next few months.

The 74-year-old's request to have his lifetime ban from the league reviewed by commissioner Rob Manfred was granted, as the two sides met at MLB headquarters in New York on Thursday.

"Manfred confirmed he wants a decision by the end of the year," Rose's attorney said. "We appreciate that... (but) we have no comment."

Rose has remained hopeful throughout the process, though sources told T.J Quinn of ESPN they believe it is unlikely Rose will have his suspension lifted.

''I've been suspended a long time, but I made the mistake, and I'm paying the consequences,'' Rose told reporters last week. ''If I'm ever given a second chance, I'll be the happiest guy in the world. I'm an American. This is America, you get a second chance. ... I won't need a third chance.''

Issued a lifetime ban in 1989 for his involvement in gambling on baseball, Rose is the league's all-time hits leader, but is ineligible to be voted into the Hall of Fame due to his current suspension.

Documents obtained by ESPN earlier this summer indicated Rose bet on baseball as a player in 1986, something he previously denied.

The three-time batting champion's major-league career spanned 24 seasons, with 19 of those coming with the Cincinnati Reds. The 17-time All-Star was a part of three World Series-winning teams (1975-76, 1980), and won the World Series MVP (1975) and NL MVP (1973), in addition to the NL Rookie of the Year (1963). He also holds the record for most singles, games played, at-bats, and plate appearances.

  14. My favorite Yadi moment was his 2-run homer in the top of the 9th in game 7 of the 2006 NLCS against the Mets.

here is the problem with the rose reinstatement...if he gets reinstated, that doesnt mean he's eligible to be put on the HOF Ballot. The HOF is controlled by the BBWAA, not MLB, so they and their voting panel will decide if Rose should be in their Hall and not the Commish. Now a few of the old timers who were against Rose have died off, but many current voters in a straw poll already said if reinstated and on the ballot, they still wouldn't vote for him!

Rose can be as happy as a baked clam if he is reinstated. Doesn't mean he's headed to Cooperstown!

    Pabelbon gets 3 games...

Major League Baseball has issued the following statement regarding Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon and his pitch that hit Orioles third baseman Manny Machado earlier this week:

Washington Nationals pitcher Jonathan Papelbon has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch in the head area of Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles in the top of the ninth inning of the Wednesday, September 23rdgame at Nationals Park. Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Unless appealed, Papelbon's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight, when the Nationals are to open a three-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies. If appealed, the discipline issued to Papelbon will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

So the league office has ruled that Papelbon's pitch was intentionally thrown toward the head of Machado.

    1-1 Cubs, Pirates. Bottom 6th.

  18. My problem with letting Rose back is that the rule reads that if you bet on baseball then you are banned for life. If we start making exceptions then the rule loses its value. If Rose was an average player would people want him in? Rules are rules, we complain about people who think rules don't apply to them, well if Rose is let back in then it just goes to prove that there is a clear distinction in the double standard.

I really doubt he's reinstated. Just cant do it after all this time and sticking with the letter of the law.

I just wish all the other busted cheaters were treated as such.
