But they have to fix it, because they screwed it up.

  2. Cardinals hold off Cubs comeback to avoid the sweep.

I agree it's screwed up. They shouldn't have 2 teams playing 1 game after playing 162 in the season. Completely ridiculous, imo.....

Edit: As I've said 100 times before.....

they want a best of 5. no that's too long. best of 3. no, then the ws is in november. yacky yacky yack yack! either cut some games out of the regular season or live with a 1 game playoff or play in november. they want it 3 ways and none of them work! typical mismanagement.

No, I'm telling you what the expression means. "Good for them!" mean exactly that - it was good for them. It doesn't mean "Yay, I'm happy about that!"

It's an expression of congratulations, nothing more, nothing less.

we're still on that debate.... ?

  7. igloofn68 Guest

No we're not, Fish. Because "good" means the same thing....... :)

ok-glad it's over with. good for all parties involved.

  9. Here's an idea for how to handle the WC, let them play 162 games and whoever wins more gets in.

  10. by jove, i think u might be on to something there, tigers.

    Arrieta = Cy Young?

    First to 20 W's...

what about ties? many ties before by the end of the season in past seasons...

to me this current commish is as big of an idiot as selig and the whole thing needs to be revamped!

more than enough money out there to satisfy the owners, but stop having 3 pm starting playoff games. when the phils were playing in their run, i had to leave work early to see a playoff game bc it started at 3! wtf!

  13. Amazing night for Jake Arrieta and Kris.Bryant.

Jake had a CG 3 hitter to get to 20 wins. Bryant set the Cubs Rookie home run record formerly held by Billy Williams who was in attendance oh and yeah those were the winning runs. The crowd gave both a huge ovation. Very cool to watch.

At this point, Arrieta has 2 starts left. Grienke has 2 or 3. I think it comes down to those last starts.Arrieta's ERA is down to 1.88. When the conversation started about him as a potential Cy Young, his ERA was a half pt higher than Grienke, now it is .25 higher. At what point does the difference no longer matter? I think if voting ended today, they should tie. If the trend continues the next 2 starts, I think Arrieta pulls ahead.

  14. hmm, i dunno - how about... a one game playoff? :p

I thought they had done that before they added another team and changed it to a 1-game WC playoff? Another thing is, Fish was talking about going into November but MLB supposedly had a 157 game season on their schedule to talk about in the off season. So that would cancel out going into November if they passed that and made the WC game a little longer.....

and go back to playing day night doubleheaders too. start the playoffs sooner and you can have as many game playoff as you want! no need for the regular season to end on oct 4th this year.

congrats to the pirates on making the playoffs.

  17. that's no small feat there.

  18. Yogi Berra had 1819 hits as a catcher. For reference, only 3 active catchers have 1200 hits as a catcher. Pierzynski (1913), Molina (1413), McCann (1236).

I think most people think Johnny Bench was the best. But thats debatable, imo....You'd have to google RBI's and HRs also to make an educated decision......Maybe B.A. also....

Edit: He's probably close to Molina defensively and throwing out runners?....

  20. Bench had a really good arm, it faded late in his career and he was pretty average at controlling the run game by the time he was 33. Molina is 33 right now so I wonder if Yadi will start losing some arm strength.
