Sox don’t need to get under the tax lol. They just want to. I’m hoping they can figure out a way to get under while keeping Betts and Martinez. I think that’s a big part of why they brought Bloom in.

If they can somehow convince Pedroia to retire and ship Price to Texas, they would be able to do it. Then they’d just have to find super cheap 4 and 5 starters. And pray Sale and Eovaldi can somehow pitch a full season.

For my money, F the tax. Pay it. The Sox are a cash machine and have the revenue stream to overcome the penalties. Especially if Bloom can get the development side back on track.

it's cheating Will. Same as the 51 Giants and Bobby Thomson knowing what pitch Ralph Branca was throwing.Cheating like using a corked bat for an advantage or scuffing up a baseball. Cheating is cheating.

No way… its simply visual and that's fair game. I would sneak a peak at the catchers signs when I batted, when on 2nd base, whatever... its part of the game.

i don't think it's a part of the game at all. MLB catchers don't appreciate it and in some cases led to fights on the field. If it was allowed then everyone would do it like scuffing a ball. It's not allowed and it's cheating.

it's visual, but you're using cameras to do it and then use signals to transmit the signal. it goes well beyong visual.

I’d say stealing signs by using your eyes and your mind by an active participant in the game (i.e. player or coach on the field) is acceptable and is and always has been just part of the game. Using technology to do it in real time during a game is uncool though. Would we be OK with spies in the stands whose sole purpose of attending was to try to decipher signs and relay them to the team with their cell phones? Pointing sensitive microphones at the opposing dugout to listen to the other teams’ conversations? Or outright bugging them or the bullpen? Being observant and using that to your advantage is one thing. Using technology to artificially massively improve your power of observation not so much.

Another thought...the NFL switched to helmet communications to help stem the possibility of this happening...maybe MLB should consider doing something similar?

And yeah I know it would be harder to deploy in MLB due to the fact more devices would be required ie basically every batting helmet. Or at least 4 that could be easily interchanged between batting helmets. Plus the base coaches. Catchers and somehow pitchers. But it might be a less perilous technological undertaking than allowing teams to affect the outcomes of games with their damn smartwatches

I agree, not cool and shouldn't be allowed. I was having fun with fish mostly. Its a cat and mouse thing tho… teams should just find multiple ways on syncing the pitch's between the catcher and pitcher in a more stealthy way. It really is kinda odd' if you stop n think about it... the catchers are laying down signs to the pitcher in a rather obvious way. I think they could come up with a better way to communicate the signs.

This has been going on since I played pee wee, but the minds today that are churning have the 21st century tech at their finger tips, so in my opinion, the 'battery' should advance in technologies also.

    Well said, Underdog, btw.

that's #3 for Trout. He's only 28. He could have at least one or two more MVPs. Scary to think what he finishes with when he retires? He's straight to Cooperstown!

Here are the rules expected to be approved by the owners next week:

*Roster will increase to 26 players starting on opening day. A 27th player can be added for doubleheaders.

*Starting on Sept. 1, all teams must carry 28 players on the active roster. Teams may no longer have as many as 40 active players on their roster from Sept. 1 to the end of the season.

*Manfred and the players association will cap the number of pitchers a club may carry. Look for teams to be allowed to carry 13 pitchers, which means the 26th man will most likely be a position player.

*Teams must designate a player as a position player, pitcher or two-way player their first day on the active roster. That means a position player cannot pitch in a game except for the following scenarios: following the ninth inning of a tie game, in any game in which his team is losing or winning by more than six runs when the player enters as a pitcher.

*Starting pitchers and relief pitchers must pitch to either a minimum of three batters or the end of a half-inning (with exceptions for illness and injury).

*The minimum placement period for pitchers on the injured list will increase from 10 days to 15 days. Pitchers will also be required to spent 15 days in the minors instead of 10 after being optioned.

That new rule confused me DBD........why is it September 1st ???.........so I looked it up and now it makes sense......Below.

-- And finally, beginning in 2020, all teams will have a 28-man roster in the final month of September, after having a 26-man roster the first five months of the season.
