nice stadium, 4th biggest tv market, 6th biggest city in the US, good schools, great night life, eateries downtown and lots of nice places to live, i don't get all the hate. the coach, yes. media? like NY or LA doesn't have bigger media centers than Philly ? Is living in NY or LA that much better than Philly ? I get the love affair with the Yankees and their history. I get Harper wanting to be like a movie star in LA. What about the others ? Phils looked to have Andrew Miller locked up until he went to St. Louis. Is St. Louis better than Philly ? I doubt it. THe Phils are young and on the rise too. Other athletes came here and are beloved. Like Harper wouldn't be ? Just an odd story.
I'm not saying they are right...I've just read a lot of articles that have said that's the opinion of a lot of players. Not even sure it's true. I've only visited Philly and never for long periods of time...never saw much of an issue with it. Feels a lot like NYC, just smaller. I lived in NYC for a few years and wouldn't ever want to again. I would never want to live in LA. The media and fans have a reputation for being very unforgiving. That's true in other cities as well for sure...but for some reason that stigma hangs over Philly hard. Most of that is perception...but perception sadly becomes reality to people. It's unfortunate because Philly is also one of those cities that loves a hero and will worship them. St. Louis is a shit hole to live in but on the diamond they are legendary. It's desirable to play there because there's zero doubt that organization is going for it every single season. Philly has boasted about spending money but I don't think money is all there is to it.
Was it reported anywhere what the Phils actually offered those players? Or just rumors of not wanting to add years? A team can promise to spend stupid money, but they can’t promise the players will take it. Pro athletes are underpaid considering the revenues they generate and the fact they’re both the labor and the product.
Angels sign Jonathan Lucroy to one-year deal After a disappointing finish in 2018, Lucroy will try his luck in Anaheim on a reported $3.35 million deal.
YEAH especially when the GM won't spend it (money). my buddy says you can't fault the players for choosing elsewhere. bullshit. corbin wants 6 year. give it to him. happ wanted 3. done. they're all overpaid so just pay them and win again. the fans also won't come back to the stadium when their front office promised spending stupid money and overspent on mccutchen and that's it. it's unacceptable. i don't know what the media is in NY and LA but i have a hard time believing they are lesser than the Philly media, especially when they are bigger cities and have more sports teams to cover. i went to college in chicago and believe me their 2 papers are brutal. same as philly. i'll tell you one thing about philly fans...they will love and hate you, but they forgive you as well. jayson werth bashed the ownership bc he was pissed they got cliff lee after he signed with washington. he told lee if he knew he was coming to philly, he would've stayed. first game back as a national, fans applauded him. not me, i was there and didn't clap for him. years later he drops a ball and breaks his wrist. fans were happy he dropped the ball, not broke his wrist and he bashed them. what he did was wrong twice. when other 2008 members who left the team and city left on a high note with full page ads thanking the fans. so this summer was the 2008 WS team 10 yr reunion. Werth comes out to a huge applause. the fans forgave him. not me of course, but im in the minority on werth. same with allen iverson. city loves him. he appeared in the stands at a sixers game last year and the place went nuts. if harper or machado came here, they would be beloved like the others - for good and bad. schmidt took it on the chin for years and he didn't like the fans and is still loved here. harper and machado would be the same. suck it up. you're a pro athlete on the verge of making $300 MILLION DOLLARS. Fans shouldn't bother you.
they offered corbin 5 yrs and happ 2. to me offer a lesser deal that is front loaded with stupid money to avoid the extra year they want. if money is the players big need, then they will get it. i wanna see a team's revenue besides a top 5 city like ny, la, chic etc that has a yearly revenue of $300 mil plus the other 24 guys on the team. lot of tix to sell/fill and merchandise to sell to make that quota.
HAPPY NEW YEAR GENTS. A fun filled year for sure with you guys. i learn a lot from you guys. i appreciate it. thanks.
David Robertson to the Phillies, 2/23. Good pickup. Was hoping the Sox would grab him as the Kimbrel replacement.
Phils amassing a nice bullpen with DR and the 2 guys from Seattle. If they can get Britton too - wow. Still need starting pitching and Harper\ Machado.
? some reports say next week. who the hell knows? the chi sox are all in on harper, but they can't win now. even if they offer the most money, i don't see him going there. the nats reopened the checkbook to harper supposedly for $350. i still think the phillies get him or manny. they're sitting on tons of money. just spend it and get your franchise player. don't wait for arendola or someone else next winter. get these 2 studs NOW and win NOW.
lots of money being tossed out there. Harper to meet with the Phils all day tomorrow. Hopefully this ends this fiasco once and for all. he's bringing his wife, so i suspect the phils are going to give him the keys to the Brinks truck or he laughs at them and goes to LA.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...to-sign-bryce-harper-after-las-vegas-meeting/ please GOD make it happen!
if the Phils get Harper, i think they get possibly Machado and Keuchal. I think if Harper signs with the Phils, they get Keuchal for sure.
