To tell the truth, I'm not a huge Yu Darvish fan... I think he's very hittable.

he was freaking Santa Claus serving up hit presents after he got traded last year. the Astros came flat out and said he was tipping pitches the entire WS. No shit, the batboy went 3-4 off of him.

Nobody asked you to feel sorry for them. There are 13 pitchers presently making more per year than what the Cubs just gave Darvish and apparently offered Arrieta. By most any measure Arrieta's been probably the 2nd best pitcher in the league over the last 4 years, so why should he take a fraction of what he's worth if he doesn't want to? Oh, right, because it'd still be a lot more money than you make.

Also, ten billion dollars. Ten billion dollars. The owners are stealing from the players. But I guess that's OK as long as it's billionaires stealing from millionaires.

Arrieta turns down offer from Cubs...

ten billion dollars ? got a link proving that ?

Jake will get paid, but will he top Darvish's contract ? I read somewhere he wanted $200 mil and 5 yrs ? That's a little crazy as he turns 32 next month. After seeing a healthy Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee suddenly got hurt for the Phils and then their arms were mush, keeps me leery of giving anymore huge extensions past a certain age. Arrieta would be 37 after a 5 yr deal. That's not terrible, but if he gets hurt early, that could be bad for a team. $200 mil is a lot to take on for a 32 yr old. Darvish's deal looks great for Chicago.

I already posted one back in post 4153. Do you think I pulled that number out of my ass? It was in Forbes in November if the other link isn't good enough for you. Revenues are going UP. Franchise values are going UP. Player salaries are not going down, per se, but effectively they are as they are not going up at a rate anywhere near commensurate with league revenues. You are doling out your hard-earned money to watch MLB players play baseball, and the owners are taking more and more of that money for themselves. God forbid the players should stand up for themselves when that happens. No, they're just a bunch of greedy overpaid prima donnas. But then WTF are the owners, then?

I have no hope for the Jays as they refuse to pay their players and have even said they are looking to sell the team. Ownership looking to sell isn't going to spend tons of money, relatively speaking.

That's the 'kiss of death' right there. Negative talk will only bring some seriously drab baseball to Toronto.

The Jays have been penny pinching since they brought in Shapiro and Alex Anthopoulos was relieved of power and forced to leave. It was all signs that they didn't want to spend anymore and it all hit an obvious realization when Rogers announced they were looking to sell the team.

Now they are saying they aren't selling but want their value reflected in the stock prices. Either way it isn't a good look.

I didn't say that you pulled it out of your ass. However, I just reread that post twice. no where on there does it say what you said of: "Also, ten billion dollars. Ten billion dollars. The owners are stealing from the players." it NEVER SAYS THIS ! It talks about salaries, ticket prices, what ifs etc. It doesn't say owners are stealing from the players and it doesn't say $10 billion dollars either, but I get your point (see below).

look u dog - I have no idea why you are getting mad at this. they're all greedy. done. the players can fight for what they want, don't want etc. they're all overpaid, owners are shysters and tix in some areas/markets, are far too expensive. it's the same for all sports. all athletes in the 4 major sports are overpaid and tix costs are insane. all owners are damn cheap on some scales and greedy on others.

What you're talking about is the pot of total revenue for baseball and tv rights, which is mega huge and the owners cut vs the players salaries and their cut. Hell yeah, it's swayed towards the owners. That's why they are owners. If I owned a team, I am paying myself first over a catcher. haha. It's like a few years ago the NFL players union sued for their retirement money bc many players are out of money. When they found out now much revenue the NFL makes and is worth - holy shit the shit hit the fan. ex-NFL players who are crippled and dying have no money and Roger Goodell makes $48 mil a year. It was an outrage. They settled and guys finally got some money, but not all of it. Same for MLB u dog.

when watching the MLB Network piece on the 1970-73 Oakland A's - how cheap their owner C. Finley was. Their WS rings didn't even have diamonds in them. They were like a High School ring. I get it - they're cheap!

I said bf u dog greed is good but being an owner is better. of course owners will pinch a buck if they can. that's how they made their millions to begin with. This country was built on people stealing ideas and patent out from others and never paying a dime for them. why pay Stanton 10 yrs $268 mil he will take $260 mil ?

  14. Catfish Guest

who is the next big FA to sign ? Arrieta? JD Martinez ? Who ?

  15. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

And if Stanton held out for the 268 because that's what he believes he's worth, he's a greedy prima donna, right? Should just STFU and take less because it's still a lot, right.

Listen, you specifically called me out about Arrieta not taking 75 cents on the dollar. And my point all along is that you keep shitting on the players for not just happily taking whatever the owners are offering because, hey, it's still a lot of money. That ain't right. Nobody goes to the ballpark because some rich guy owns the team. And nobody should be told they're a greedy jerk for not accepting less than they're worth. The owners are making more money than ever, and giving even less of it to the players. If the players are overpaid, what are the owners, who are making even more money for doing basically nothing except having a lot of money in the first place? If you think sports prices are too high, don't go. Don't watch. Don't buy merch. Nobody's forcing you. But if you do, then I guess you should take your own advice to the players and STFU and accept that those are the prices.

first off u dog - you jumped on me 3 pages ago about this and about my post about the 1 agent saying this was an outrage. then you jumped on my post about my my former job, leaving the job and wages and raises not given out. you threw snide comment after snide comment about my worth etc. so who called who out here ? I never posted to come after you. you were the only one on here speaking about it.

I've said repeatedly the owners are greedy and on the take. I never said anything about 75 cents on the dollar. I said he wants 5 yrs $200mil and he's going to turn 32 in a month. that's a lot of coin for anyone to take on. but hey get the money while you can bc you can't pitch forever. my point was the article on the agent crying that his signing freeze was an outrage when the players have money as is. it wasn't about Arrieta. It was about the agent crying about his 10% he's not getting bc his clients aren't getting new deals. it's laughable he was mad about it. again - the agent, not the players.

Arrieta -- I just don't think he's worth that much money. after seeing the late Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee pitch healthy and then boom their arms were mush in their early 30's, I wouldn't give anyone a long deal in their 30's. And the Phils gave Ryan Howard $125 mil and he was mush 4/5 yrs of it. But hey, I'm not a ballplayer. I gotta work till I'm 65 or die trying. It's risky for the owners to invest in that much money after a specific age. Injuries seems to happen to these guys after 30 yrs old.

I'm lucky with the Phils as tix are cheap. It was your link that mentioned other venue prices sky high, not me. I go once a year if that. When I lived within walking distance of the stadium I had a 17 game plan. Very affordable for a playoff team.

and I think it's insane to give Bryce Harper $400 mil this fall/winter too. yeah he's a MVP and young etc, but he's hurt too and $400 mil is $400 mil ! I just can't get my head around that figure without laughing.

And I was content to let it lie three pages ago when you agreed with me that the owners weren't cutting salaries because the players are overpaid until you called me out about it again today.

Other than that I'll stand by my position that it's utter hypocrisy to expect the players to accept less than they're worth just because you can't wrap your head around how much they're worth, and leave it at that.

this is calling you out bc I said your name? I was referencing you to Jake turning money down after the agent was mad last week about no team signing any top FA. it wasn't meant as a dig or slight u dog. I'm being 10000000% genuine now. I was just saying that hey look Jake turn down money and the agent was mad no one was signing anyone.

who was the guy in 1970 who fought for his worth or right to be a FA - Curt Flood ? That was 1970? What did the players do before that? What was Ruth worth or Gehrig or Walter Johnson or Yaz, Aaron, Koufax, Mantle, Joe D etc? They probably didn't have the leverage players do now and teams didn't have the tv rights or revenue like today.
