he leaned into it and everyone is saying it's his job to win the game. down 6-0 ? ok. sleep better at night.
a pirate fan sticking up for his team... answer me this -- how come no other pirate did it then ? leaned into one etc. not one of them did it but him with 2 outs and 2 strikes down 6-0 in the 9th. sorry, but it's bush-league. if he wanted to get on - get a freaking hit. that's his job. like bunting to get on to break it up. there's an etiquette involved and he has none of it.
Since when does etiquette have anything to do with it? If it had happened to the Pirates, then yes, I would be upset. Considering it didn't, I'm not. But no rules were broken and it was a close inside pitch. I think it points to the fact that if you have a perfect game going you don't want to throw inside on the last batter......And I know that most fans probably don't like it except Pirates fans.......
no one else leaned into a pitch... and they were still no hit so what difference did it make? if he wanted to ruin both the perfecto and no-no, get a hit. don't take the cheap way out with leaning into a pitch.
Ryne Sandberg of the Phillies has just stepped down... (Sandberg went 119-159 over parts of 3 seasons)
No no-hitter, but Max Scherzer's three-start stretch among best ever By Mike Axisa | Baseball Writer Johnny Vander Meer still stands alone. Vander Meer remains the only player in baseball history to throw back-to-back no-hitters after Nationals ace Max Scherzer was unable to toss his second straight no-no on Friday night. He settled for eight innings of two-run ball. Scherzer's start on Friday night was excellent by any objective measure. Any pitcher would take those results any night. It also happens to be the worst of Scherzer's three most recent starts. Here's what he's done the last three times out: June 14 @ Brewers: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 16 K, 0 HB, 100 Game Score June 20 vs. Pirates: 9 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K, 1 HB, 97 Game Score June 26 @ Phillies: 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 0 HB, 71 Game Score In addition to the back-to-back no-hitters, Scherzer was also looking to become the second pitcher ever with three straight starts with a Game Score of 90 or better, joining Jim Maloney of the 1964-65 Reds. He was also trying to join Cliff Lee (2011) and Brandon Webb (2007) as the only pitchers to toss three straight shutouts this century. Either way, Scherzer is on an extended run of dominance right now, the likes of which we don't see very often. A one-hitter, a no-hitter, then eight innings of two-run ball? Any one of those three would represent the best start of the season for most pitchers. Scherzer's done all that in the span of two weeks. He is the best pitcher in baseball right now and this three-start stretch is historically great. Max trying to earn all that money... good for him, im happy for him.
I had 3 or 4 tickets to the 1st game ever at 3 Rivers Stadium back in 1970......Gave 1 to each of my 2 son's. Sold 1 on ebay years ago. Think it went for around $65......
Just looking at Cardinals who should be all-stars, not just starters: 2B Wong SS Peralta C Molina OF Holliday (maybe, dependent on health) 3B Carpenter SP Wacha SP Martinez RP Rosenthal Anyone you guys disagree with on that list?
Yes, there is...... I have Posey over Molina. Molina seems to be regressing. I was thinking it was all the weight he lost. He almost looks like he's sick from what I'm used too. I don't think Holliday is better than McCutchen, period. Martinez, not so sure. I think Frazier might beat out Carpenter due to his stats. He's a good hitter like Carp but hits a lot more HRs and RBI's. Of course he is batting in a better situation for RBI's but Frazier has him beat on homers anyways. Wacha, Rosenthal, Wong, Peralta, yes, definitely........The vote is for starting players. The managers get to pick also for 2nd team All Stars, no? So some guys will get in on the managers picks......
