Hoskins is the fastest by 5 or 6 games they said last night on the phils broadcast. To me 17 hrs is a ton for how little he's played, but to beat it by 5 or 6 games says a lot for the guy who did it bf hoskins.
Aaron Altherr hit the first ever grand slam off of Clayton Kershaw... MLB league-wide single season home run record set to fall Tuesday...
^^ and in the same game a inside the park HR by Chris Taylor. and no 20 game winner in MLB this year. It has happened before but not often.
NewArena.com has a list of their all-time top 25 greatest hitters. it's a scroll list, but i wrote it down to debate. I added my commentary too: 25-Mike Trout 24-Alex Rodriguez- no way he's on the list. He cheated and admitted to it. 23-Shoeless Joe Jackson 22-Albert Pujols 21-Miguel Cabrera 20-Ken Griffey Jr. - surprised he only batted .285 19-Frank Robinson - I would have him a little higher. 18-Jimmy Foxx 17-Rod Carew 16-Joe Dimaggio 15-Honus Wagner-seems low here 14-Ichiro Suzuki 13-Barry Bonds-damn a puzzling case. Was great before he roided up, but he cheated too. Would love to have him higher, but I can't do it. 12-Pete Rose 11-Hank Aaron 10-Tony Gwynn-seems way too high here 9-Willie Mays-seems way too low here 8-Mickey Mantle-can't have the Mick ahead of Mays, sorry. 7-Roberto Clemente-I young he died in a plane crash, but he was 38. How many more years would he have played? HRS & RBIs are low. 6-Lou Gehrig 5-Rogers Hornsby 4-Ty Cobb 3-Stan Musial 2-Babe Ruth 1-Ted Williams surprise Yaz isn't on the list. Triple Crown winner and top 7 in all-time hits. 6-
Without knowing what their criteria for determining "greatness" was it's hard to say. You really have to feel pretty awesome about what Ted would've done with the time he missed to the service to put him ahead of Ruth. They clearly gave Bonds and ARod pretty steep PED discounts, because they're both unquestionably among the 10 best hitters that ever played, with or without the juice. Shoot, Shoeless Joe is probably a no-doubt Top 10 all time, too, and they knocked him all the way down to 23 while overrating a bunch of singles hitters. And I don't see any way you can put Miggy ahead of Pujols.
if you count the juice - bonds is top 3 IMO and maybe #1 overall! he wasn't the hitter that Williams' was but wow could he hit when he saw 1 pitch a night for many games. And all his walks and intentional walks - wow! it was just a list i felt like posting. i was bummed they didn't have criteria either.
MLB’s league-wide home run record has been broken As expected, Major League Baseball’s league-wide home run record, set in 2000, was tied and surpassed on Tuesday night, both by players named Alex who play for AL Central teams. Tigers outfielder Alex Presley tied the record at 5,693, per MLB.com’s David Adler, with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning against Athletics starter Daniel Gossett. Royals outfielder Alex Gordon broke the record roughly 12 minutes later with a solo home run to lead off the top of the eighth inning against Blue Jays reliever Ryan Tepera. Major League Baseball saw the record nearly broken last year, when 5,610 home runs were hit. The only other season above 5,500 was 1999 at 5,528 _________ _________________ Amazing. I wonder why?

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...y-foul-ball-plead-mlb-for-protective-netting/ little girl hit by foul ball. players on the field stop playing. some in tears. girl's condition still unknown. brian dozier calls for more netting and not bringing kids to games and sitting that close to the field. . ? i don't get that. i think they should have more netting. the NHL added nets after a puck hit 13 yr Brittany Cecil on her birthday and she died days later. netting is the smartest thing they can do to prevent this stuff from happening.
Red Sox starter Chris Sale recorded his 300th strikeout of the 2017 season on Wednesday night against the Orioles. The momentous occasion occurred with two outs in the eighth inning. Facing Ryan Flaherty, Sale threw a slider that caught the strike zone low and inside for called strike three. Sale and Clayton Kershaw (2015) are the only pitchers to strikeout 300-plus batters in a season in the last 15 years. Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson accomplished the feat in 2002, and Johnson also did it in 2001 and 2000. Pedro Martinez had been the only other Red Sox pitcher to have a 300-strikeout season.
I've never understood the lack of netting going back to the early 80's when a kid got drilled in the face at Fenway with the end of a broken bat that flew into the stands and Jim Rice jumped out of the dugout and carried the kid off the field. 30+ years later this shit's still happening it's mind-boggling. You can't prevent everything from happening, but it sure seems like there's been a lot of accidents at ballfields that could've been without a ton of effort on the teams' parts.
Wow... sad. Brings back bad memories. You are 100% correct, Underdog. There is so much that can be done that isn't getting done. Usually it takes a major injury or a death to get people to move. This has already happened in the MLB and they continue to drop the ball.
not to be insensitive - but look at the rice photo and the kid's face? that's barely looks human. it looks like a Halloween mask or something. His chin line is covered in hair or a ton of dark red blood ? yikes.
It was blood. Rice went back out to left field in the next half inning with blood all over his uni and the whole place just went bananas cheering for him...I can't recall now whether I watched the game in real time or just saw the replays on the news, but it was pretty amazing what he did.
