Cubs land Quintana for 4 prospects In a blockbuster intra-city deal, the White Sox traded Jose Quintana to the Cubs on Thursday for top two prospects Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease, as well as Bryant Flete and Matt Rose, the clubs announced Thursday. Quintana, the White Sox's No. 1 starter and an All-Star last season, had spent all six of his Major League seasons with the White Sox. The left-hander is signed through 2018 with $10.5 million club options for 2019 and '20, so he is under contractual control through the 2020 season. The 28-year-old is 4-8 with a 4.49 ERA in 18 starts this season, with 109 strikeouts in 104 1/3 innings. Jimenez, a 20-year-old outfielder, was the Cubs' No. 1 prospect and the No. 8 prospect in baseball, according to MLBPipeline.com. Cease, a 21-year-old right-hander, ranked as the team's No. 2 prospect and the No. 63 prospect in baseball. Flete, a first baseman, and Rose, an infielder, did not rank among the club's Top 30 prospects. Trades between the Chicago teams are rare. The last time the Cubs and White Sox made a deal was on Nov. 16, 2006, when the White Sox traded Neal Cotts to the Cubs for David Aardsma and Minor Leaguer Carlos Vasquez.
^^^this is why theo epstein is the best in MLB and maybe all of sports. I hate him, but he see's the standings. he knows his team needs a major boost. he saw lester get shelled like pearl harbor bf the break, so he gets another quality arm for the team for prospects. brilliant. this is why i hate the phillies and flyers management. this is what the hockey guys don't understand about my hatred for them...this move is a ballsy move! it takes guts to pull a move like this. it's telling your staff, who hasn't been good - you all need a punch in the mouth and if someone loses starts tough shit. this is why theo has 3 WS titles! And why the Flyers haven't won since 1975 and the Phils since 08 and 80 and have been around for 110 yrs. NO BALLS or GUTS!
Its an interesting move for the Cubs. Apparently they feel they can catch the Brewers (5.5 out). ___________ The White Sox made out. They are going to look great in 2 or 3 years... or sooner even.
I mean if you're going to do a rebuild, the White Sox went about it the right way and made out well in terms of prospect return, but OTOH they had some really good core pieces on team friendly deals and dealt most of them away, so hard to say they'll really be better in a couple of years unless ALL of those guys make it. If they had done a better job filling out the rest of the roster around Sale/Quintana/Eaton/Abreu/Garcia they could've been competing for that division every year.
I just think they got rid of Quintana at the right time while they could still get a nice return for him... some of the other moves they have made may not of panned out right yet, but the prospect pool for Quintana was a steal, in my opinion.
it was a steal and that's why i hate the phils management. the guys they got for giles and hamels are mostly busts.
Hamels was older and on a much more expensive contract than Quintana when he was dealt, though. And IIRC you got some prospects that were pretty highly regarded at the time. Also thought you guys got a real good package for Giles (again, at the time)...that's the thing with prospects...if Moncada and Jimenez don't make it, the White Sox will look enormously stupid for giving up Sale and Quintana for them.
Michael Pineda has a partial tear in UCL. Probably will have Tommy John surgery but getting a 2nd opinion...
I mean the Josh Hamilton deal by the Angels was pretty bad, and he wasn't very good for them there, and they still got a TON more production out of him than the Sox got out of Sad Panda.
Bellinger hits for cycle as Wood, Dodgers beat Marlins?7-1 MIAMI ? Cody Bellinger became the first Dodgers rookie to hit for the cycle and Alex Wood became the first Dodgers pitcher in more than a century to win his first 11 decisions in a season, helping the NL West leaders beat the Miami Marlins 7-1 Saturday night for their eighth straight victory. Bellinger singled in the first inning, hit a two-run homer in the third, added an RBI double in the fourth and hit his second career triple on the first pitch of the seventh. His triple off Nick Wittgren barely cleared the glove of right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, who tried to making a running backhanded catch. Wood (11-0) struck out 10 in six scoreless innings, allowed only four baserunners and lowered his ERA to 1.56 in 16 games this year. (PHT)
Jose Quintana?s first impression on the Cubs was an impressive one, as the lefty blanked the Orioles over seven shutout innings on Sunday afternoon in a 8-0 win. He limited the opposition to three hits without issuing a walk and striking out 12 on 100 pitches.
although pujols is still playing, his contract is no prize either. didn't they give a pitcher a bad deal too. i can't think of his name but it was the same year they signed hamilton...?
CJ Wilson. Still way better than Sandoval. They at least got a couple of good seasons out of him before his shoulder gave out.
ah that's him. thanks,. a lot of smoke and fire about yelich and stanton to philly. new rumors are dee gordon and yelich. i believe none of it. the phillies management have shown nothing but puppet answers to questions about the team and keep deferring to being patient which is the same answer as the flyers and sixers. bullshit. until i see them holding up a phillies jersey, i believe none of it. matt klentak couldn't manage a Dairy Queen!
The Home Run Derby is being called the blame for Aaron Judge's slump. I disagree. I really cant see him treating game pitching like the slow stuff being tossed to him during the Derby. I just think its a coincidence that he cant hit after the showing he had at the Derby. If he thinks he can homer every day and hit every Big League pitcher, he's crazier than I am... and that's next to impossible.
^^^ well it killed Bobby Abreau's second half of the season with the Yanks the year he broke Derby records and Joc Pederson of the Dodgers hasn't been the same since he was in it either. To me it's a deathwish or bad omen !
