http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/f...dies-at-age-51-due-to-inoperable-brain-tumor/ Sad news. I am only 6 yrs away from being 51. The guy had good spirits despite his record losing streaks. RIP Anthony.
Umpire John Tumpane pulled a woman from the edge of the Roberto Clemente?Bridge Stephen J. Nesbitt and Steph Chambers of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have an enthralling report involving umpire John Tumpane. On Wednesday afternoon, prior to the game in Pittsburgh between the Rays and Pirates, Tumpane had finished a run and lunch. As he was crossing the Roberto Clemente Bridge just outside of PNC Park, he noticed a woman climb over the bridge?s railing above the Allegheny River. Tumpane was worried and headed towards the woman. What began was an act of heroism. He started a conversation with the woman, who said, ?I just wanted to get a better look of the city from this side,? and then said, ?I?m better off on this side. Just let me go.? Tumpane refused to let her go. He had his arms wrapped around her and spoke words of encouragement until police and paramedics arrived. As the woman was being put into the ambulance, Tumpane asked for her name and prayed for her. He said he hopes to reconnect with her before he leaves town for the next series. He called it an ?interesting afternoon.? The recap here doesn?t do Chambers and Nesbitt?s reporting justice, so please head over to the Post-Gazette to read the full story. In a sport in which home plate umpires are some of the only ones wearing caged masks, it?s easy to forget that they are human beings, too. We curse at them for making calls that go against our teams, but they can be capable of greatness, too. Tumpane certainly showed that on Wednesday. Cubs cut Montero after his spat with Arrieta and Rizzo. To me this should be done off the media. Rizzo going to the media was wrong. keep it in-house.

Aaron Judge hits his 29th home run of the season, tying DiMaggio's Yankees record for HRs by a rookie.
Aaron Judge breaks Joe DiMaggio?s franchise record Two games shy of the All-Star break, Aaron Judge is on pace for 60 home runs, 132 RBI, and 200 runs scored. Move over, Joe DiMaggio. Aaron Judge homered his way into the Yankees? history books on Friday night, recording his 30th home run to surpass the 29-home run record DiMaggio set during his rookie year. Now, thanks to Judge, no one in franchise history has touched 30 home runs in their rookie season ? and we haven?t even reached the All-Star break yet. The historic blast came in the fifth inning of Friday?s 9-4 loss to the Brewers, when Judge connected on a 1-0 changeup from Josh Hader
Kyle Freeland has entered the 9th inning with a no-hitter going on... __________ ...and its broken up in the 9th with 1 out.
i read a odd stat that Judge, even though he's batting .330, has a high strikeout rate, so something has to give. either the k's will go up and his average goes down. or he maintains his average and still k's a lot. you don't see this too often with a high k guy hitting for average.

Yeah you can't hit over .400 on balls in play and strike out 30% of the time forever. OTOH I said the same thing a month ago and he's still doing it lol.
^^still a long way to go till the end of the season. People are already saying he's the MVP. All I know is by Sept 1 many years ago - Curt Schilling had his first Cy Young in the bag. It was a lock. He was finally going to win the Cy Young Award. Then he lost his next 4-5 starts in a row in the the next 4 weeks and he was runner-up! Like Rambo once said "Nothing is over, Nothing ! "
I will be surprised if he doesn't have a pretty noticeable swoon in the second half. There was literally nothing in his prior track record suggesting he was capable of this.
yeah! i had him in fantasy in another league for 2 weeks and had to drop him as he wasn't doing much. shoot me now. pitchers are smart and will pitch around him if necessary. the advantages goes to the savvy pitcher, not Judge, not yet anyways.
Manfred thinks the HR increase could be the bats, not the balls... http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/07/12/rob-manfred-thinks-bats-are-to-blame-for-home-run-spike/
