don't know if all were worthy to retire, but #2 was. 5 WS rings says a lot! The best is the scout who found him and insisted the Yankees take him. Big George didn't want "that skinny slap hitter from Michigan!" When Jeter had his 3000th hit, the scout was there as a invitee for the weekend by Jeter. Classy move.
too bad igloo left the site. mccutchen is done. he's burnt toast ! His trade value lowers every single day for the pirates. pu!
A Cubs fan has died after he fell over a railing following Tuesday night?s Cubs game, the team confirmed. Richard E. Garrity, 42 of Wheaton, Illinois, fell as he was leaving the stadium, about 40 minutes after the game ended. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died Wednesday afternoon.? ?Following yesterday?s game, a male fan was injured after a fall as he was exiting the ballpark,? the Cubs said in a statement?Wednesday night.??Paramedics responded immediately and transported him to a local hospital. We have since learned he passed away today though we have no further information. The thoughts and prayers of our entire organization are with his family during this difficult time.? Garrity, who had attended the game as part of a work outing, is survived by his wife, 9-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son.
^^ jeez. 40 min after the game and he fell over a railing? how does that happen? i can see if the stadium is full and people are pushing people, but 40 min afterwards would seem pretty empty. Very sad for his love ones to lose him like that. I know the town of Wheaton, Illinois. My sister got married there and I went to college 2 towns away or about 5-10 min.
tempers flare with the bluejays and braves over bautista's bat flip and a fast pitch strike. no punches were thrown either time benches cleared and umps kept the peace.
https://sports.yahoo.com/news/braves-star-freddie-freeman-two-months-fight-coming-2-192138431.html Freddie Freeman out 10 weeks. Braves say fight is coming tonight in retaliation. Back break there but to predict a fight is coming is bad for baseball! That means someone is getting beans tonight. that's premeditated! Bad business.
Blue Jays suspend Kevin Pillar for two?games The Blue Jays have suspended outfielder Kevin Pillar two games for his use of a homophobic slur at Braves reliever Jason Motte on Wednesday, Sportsnet?s Shi Davidi reports. Davidi notes that the decision to levy the suspension was done in consultation with Major League Baseball and the players? union. Pillar?s forfeited salary will be donated, but the Jays have not yet decided on a recipient, though it will likely be an LGBTQ organization. Both the Jays and Pillar issued public apologies on Thursday and Major League Baseball said it is investigating the incident. Pillar has started in center field for each of the Jays? 41 games this season. The Jays are still shorthanded due to injuries, so Chris Coghlan or Darrell Ceciliani may draw a start in the outfield while Pillar serves his suspension. (PBT)
Report: White Sox nearing deal with Luis?Robert The White Sox are working on a deal with Cuban outfielder Luis Robert, according to FOX Sports? Ken Rosenthal. The deal is said to be between $25-30 million, with a final figure somewhere north of $45 million with taxes (via Yahoo Sports? Jeff Passan). The?White Sox have yet to officially confirm the signing. The club was rumored to be one of the top three frontrunners to land Robert, Passan wrote on Thursday. Unlike several other suitors, the White Sox have not recently exceeded their international spending limits, allowing them to offer Robert a sizable bonus without incurring exorbitant tax penalties. They?ll be shackled to?those penalties on any additional international?free agent they sign over the next two years, preventing them from offering a bonus above $300,000. It?s a prudent move for the White Sox as they push forward with a full-scale rebuild over the next several years. At 19 years old, Robert already profiles as one of the top two international talents on the market, second only to Japanese pitcher/slugger Shohei Otani. His elite power and speed will make him a formidable center fielder and one of the White Sox? top two prospects alongside rookie third baseman Yoan Moncada.
Braves try to fill Freeman-sized hole in lineup with trade for Cardinals' Matt Adams Earlier this week, the Atlanta Braves learned that first baseman Freddie Freeman would miss significant time with a fractured wrist. On Saturday, the Braves took a step toward filling the void by acquiring first baseman Matt Adams?and cash considerations from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor-league infielder Juan Yepez. Back in 2013-14, Adams looked like a potential long-term solution at first base for the Cardinals. Since then, however, he's hit .250/.302/.433 (a 96 OPS+) with 22 home runs in 566 plate appearances. Look for the Braves to platoon Adams as aggressively as the Cardinals did -- he's faced at least 85 percent righties in each of the past three years. It's worth noting Adams won't be a free agent until after the 2018 season. Although, provided Freeman makes a quick and full recovery, it's fair to wonder how (or rather, if) Adams fits into the Braves' long-term plans. For now, they're just hoping he provides better production than Rio Ruiz and their other internal options could.
these guys get a ton of money but take years to see the majors. the phils signed a big one years ago as a teen and he's no where close to mlb ready. i don't get all the money these guys are getting when they're so far away from helping a team?
http://www.maxpreps.com/news/5GtBlb...itcher-fires-fourth-consecutive-no-hitter.htm wow - 4 straight no hitters. i figured that was a record. pfft. he needs 2 more to just tie the record and that was done by 2 people! that's nuts.
i love the entire team coming out of the dugout to go after that asshole father and son duo for attacking the first base coach! great clips overall. love that stuff. well done Will. A+
