Madison Bumgarner begins rehab from Grade 2 AC joint sprain SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, who earlier this month injured his left throwing shoulder in a dirt-biking accident, started rehab for the injury and is expected to be out until after the July 10-13 All-Star break, the team said Friday. The 27-year-old suffered a Grade 2 AC joint sprain in the April 20 crash on the team's day off in Colorado. Bumgarner started rehab Friday and is focused on improving his range of motion, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Bumgarner is in the last year of a five-year, $35 million contract extension that he signed in 2012. He is 0-3 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts this season.
No home runs were hit in the 1918 World Series between the Cubs and Red Sox. There has not been a homerless World Series since.

Boston fans make racist remarks, throw peanuts at Orioles? Adam?Jones The Red Sox and Orioles have a bit of a rivalry brewing, especially after last week?s incident in which reliever Matt Barnes threw a fastball at Manny Machado?s head. Barnes was immediately ejected from that game and later handed a four-game suspension for his actions. The Red Sox weren?t happy with Machado, who had slid into Dustin Pedroia at second base two games prior and injured him. At the very least, last week?s series got the blood flowing and pumped interest into Monday?s series opener. The game itself was fine ? the Orioles won 5-2. Machado homered and made a few nifty defensive plays. Unfortunately, it?s some racist fans in Boston who are stealing the spotlight. Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reports that?some fans at Fenway Park directed racist remarks towards Jones and one even threw a bag of peanuts at him. Jones said, ?A disrespectful fan threw a bag of peanuts at me. I was called the N-word a handful of times tonight. Thanks. Pretty awesome.? Jones continued, saying, ?It?s different.?Very unfortunate. I heard there was 59 or 60 ejections tonight in the ballpark. It is what it is, right. I just go out and play baseball. It?s unfortunate that people need to [resort] to those type of epithets to degrade another human being. I?m trying to make a living for myself and for my family.? Regarding the fan who threw peanuts at him, Jones said, ?It?s pathetic.?It?s called a coward. What they need to do is that instead of kicking them out of the stadium, they need to fine them 10 grand, 20 grand, 30 grand. Something that really hurts somebody. Make them pay in full. And if they don?t, take it out of their check.?That?s how you hurt somebody. You suspend them from the stadium, what does that mean? It?s a slap on the wrist. That guy needs to be confronted, and he needs to pay for what he?s done.?At the end of the day, when you throw an object onto the field of play, the player has no idea what it is. What if something hit me right in the eye and I can?t play baseball anymore. Then what? I just wear it? No.?Things like that need to be handled a little more properly, in my opinion.? Though the fans, of course, were acting on their own volition, the Red Sox will likely make a formal apology to Jones and the Orioles on Tuesday. Jones said that Monday wasn?t the first time he?d been the subject of racist remarks at Fenway Park, but he did say that it was one of the worst experiences he?s had during his 12 years in the majors. ___________ This is not cool... shame on those fans who did that. Ban them lifetime from the park.
Sickening. Permabans from the stadium are a good start. The 5 figure fines Jones touts might be a bit much - not sure how far we can realistically pry open the Pandora's box of fining people for being ignorant idiots - but I could definitely get on board with some stiffer civil penalties for doing stuff like this. I hate that morons like this make it so easy for morons from other places to look at me and say, "hey, you're a white guy from Boston, you must be a racist a-hole, too." AJ will get a huge and well-deserved ovation tonight that I know is far more representative of what people around here are really like, but I also know it will probably generally be received as a hollow gesture outside this area thanks to our less-than-stellar history in the area of race relations and the actions of clowns like those that were at the game last night.
That's the thing about it too that can be a problem... a few bad apples can give people the excuse to call all Red Sox fans racist, albeit just the ignorant people, but still that story just seems to give Boston a bad name and rep, which is why this behavior needs quick and strong consequences.
Adam Jones gets standing ovation from Red Sox fans In his first AB Tuesday night Jones received a standing ovation from the Red Sox fans... that's a class act.
^^ it was a nice gesture but the fans are still on notice and need to be pointed out for throwing peanuts at jones and racial slurs being yelled out.
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/w...t-for-red-sox-goes-on-profanity-laced-tirade/ again-bullshit here. so sale hits manny bc an O's pitcher hit one of their guys? chickenshit ! where is the commissioner in all of this? didn't see him on the jones stuff and now back to manny ? he's worst than selig. he hides better than a little girl playing flashlight tag ! i don't condone beaning, but chris sale would've leave the park without serious repercussions if i was the o's!
Its been part of the game since forever... retaliation usually just draws a warning the first time. I personally don't mind the retaliation pitch's myself. Too me its the only way sometimes to gain respect from the opposing side. If a batter doesn't like it he has an option or two also. He can trot to first or charge the mound. These things don't even happen that often, but when they do, I find the game more interesting. I also like the rivalry its created between two teams... makes it must see TV, imo. Every time Boston and Baltimore get together, I'm going to look in... I'm just curious that way.
