btw-the mlb players union will fight the speed up tactics on MLB. I saw the article somewhere, but can't find it now.
The ratio of what they paid him to what he was actually worth on the field was about the same disparity lol. He had one stretch of about 10 starts where he was awesome. Other than that, hot garbage.
i read the changes to the intentional walk and extra innings may not happen for years now. and i thought MLB did install a pitch clock on the pitchers? they said last night it was only in the minor leagues? i could've sworn i saw a clock counting down at the phils stadium...? and i read they may use a different kind of ball too. changes, sometimes aren't good for anything, but causing trouble!
I actually like the ball idea quite a bit...by far the best proposal I've heard this off-season...will help with time far more than the IBB rule and greatly diminish the temptation to tamper with the ball. Only question I can think of will be can they consistently produce a surface the preponderance of pitchers will be happy with.
then what is the clock at the stadium then? i know the phillies have one? is it the between innings clock maybe?
yep u dog, i asked a buddy and it's for in between innings and changes. i knew i saw a clock at CBP. Im crazy, but not that crazy. i think a clock on the hitter/pitcher isn't a bad idea. too many stoppages and ass scratchings.
So who is the better baseball player, Tim Tebow or Theo Epstien? http://www.bleachernation.com/2017/...tein-crush-an-oppo-shot-off-of-ryan-dempster/
Since Theo isn't being paid to play, he can suck. Just wondering if he might be better than Tebow. Despite being 15 years older.
i think tebow is still with the mets somehow so he's making progress. hahaha theo gets a lot of praise for turning the sox around and winning the title. same in chicago. i think he benefits from top scouting and the biggest checkbook in MLB. When Steinbrenner died, the sons weren't as keen as the Dad to spend money. This is where Theo passed them and spent out the ass for Boston to win 2 WS Titles. Money and top F/A were no option. Chicago fans praise their minor league system and current home grown players like Rizzo, Baez, Bryant and others. They have top scouting. However last year's team was full of acquired or signed FA. Chapman, Fowler, Lester, Arrietta, Heyward, Zobrist, and others. When it comes to spending to win - Theo is KING!
Arrieta, Chapman, and Fowler were traded for. Arrieta hasn't hit free agency yet. (Also acquired via trades was: Hendricks, Russell, Rizzo, Strop, Edwards, Montgomery) Free Agency: he spent a lot of money Heyward and Lester (Although less than other teams offered apparently). Zobrist and Lackey weren't paid a ton or long term deals.
The link I posted was of Theo hitting an apparent home run off of Ryan Dempster. Hence the question, is Theo a better Ball player than Tim Tebow?
Conversely plenty of teams/GM's have spent huge with nothing to show for it, either. What money really gives a team is a larger margin of error on mistakes, it's no guarantee of winning anything. Even big money teams still have to make good decisions with that money. Who do you suppose hires/trains/directs all those great scouts? What you're seeing the Cubs becoming now was the vision he had for the Sox in 2002 that he wasn't able to fully realize because of the people above him. They're going to dominate for a long time so long as Ricketts stays the f out of his way.
it seems like u dog that ever since he was a gm at 29 or however young he was that he's never been with a cheap franchise. he's always had the luxury of a team owner willing to spend money out the ass. your examples of teams spending money and losing LA DODGERS was spot on, but Theo has been fortunate to where's he's landed for his first 2 jobs in MLB as GM. I mean it's not like he was the GM of the Marlins or Padres and had to say "no" to buying a top guy. it seems like the FA come to him and he cuts them a check!
To begin with, the Cubs did not have financial flexibility when he started. They had issues with the debt service that the a Ricketts incurred as part of buying the team. They have some now, but they can't go after every big name and then know that. He is also incredibly creative on the trades. Yes free agency put the Cubs over the top. But it was Theo's ability to find incredible value in trades that is how they have really rebuilt the franchise. Only 2 players on the 40 man roster were not acquired in some fashion by Theo and company - Baez and Szczu.
