MLB - NEWS & NOTES

  1. If Rodney pitches like he did with SD, that is a steal! The rate closers are going for, I would have thought he would have gotten more.

Nats now after Jansen to be their closer. Jeez, they want everyone. They are the wannabe Yankees!

  3. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

Nope, Nats snubbed again...Jansen goes back to LaLaLand, 5/80.

  4. Catfish Guest

good. hates the idea of the nats getting better. haha

  5. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

Not that he'll ever be hurting for cash, but if it's true Miami offered him even more than 5/80, Jansen left a lot of money on the table by going back to LA when you consider the 13.3% vs. 0% income tax rate differential.

The Associated Press reported this evening that?Major League Baseball has outlawed ?offensive? hazing. Specifically, teams are no longer allowed to dress rookies as women or female characters in those end-of-year hazing rituals that pop up on social media each September.

Good. We?ve been criticizing this practice for some time around these parts. Hazing is, by definition, an act of humiliation. Which, fine, if players want to haze rookies, let them. But the notion that dressing them as women or feminine characters is inherently humiliating is itself inherently degrading to women. And besides, it?s dumb. I mean, how bad a hazer are you if you can?t do better than ?hahaha, you?re a girl!?
So bully for MLB for outlawing this juvenile and retrograde practice.

Now, if the league would only extend its ban on ?offensive? apparel to the uniforms currently worn by the reigning American League champions . . .

    ?? Their AL Champions hats?

I think hazing or hell week for sports, frats and anything else is wrong. Or rookies paying for dinners of 325 pound linemen! I have 3 brothers who were frat guys. 2 of them had to be late to classes at LaSalle bc they had to carry the books of their pledge brothers to their classes first. Sorry, but my education is one the line here. LaSalle has a lot of buildings across the campus and not just in 1 building.

Many years ago, a NBA vet told this rookie he needed to bring bagels or donuts to every meeting. If he didn't, there would be hell to pay. One time, he was running late and didn't bring bagels. I think the Vet filled the interior of the rookies new car with stadium popcorn to the top of the interior. The rookie was furious. The expense of getting popcorn out is probably expensive. The rookie went back to the lockerroom and went off on the Vet about the joke. The Vet got pissed, but this time the team backed up the rookie and the bagel bringing was over.

Now many NBA Rookies have fallen victim of the popcorn prank, but some take it too far. Much like college frat hazing. A pledge at a frat at NIU-Northern Illinois University was left drunk in shorts and a t-shirt in cold conditions to find his way back to the frat. he got separated from the rest of the pledges and stumbled out of a cornfield which was close to I-88 and got ran over by a 18 wheeler. The parents sued and the Frat lost their Charter!

San Jose St - a frat make pledges drink water. Whomever peed their pants or puked got beat but didn't have to drink anymore. 1 kid refused to quit. he kept drinking the water. well his brain swelled up so much from too much water - he died right there in the basement of the frat. The 3 Frat members responsible were charged in his death and the frat lose their Charter.

Bands in the South have tough hazing on freshman band mates. One college made a kid go through a line of bandmates and they beat him with instruments of some kind on a bus. Not the ones they played. The kid made it through, but then collapsed and died int he parking lot once he got past the line of internal and external injuries. Many bandmates were charged in the death. And I think the band got cancelled.

Or the worst was a bunch of FEMALE field hockey or soccer juniors and seniors of some Illinois HS who lured the freshman and sophomore to a open field where they threw feces, eggs and trash at them. They used broom handles against them and put them in the girls asses and vagina's! Some girls were so traumatized, they of course went home shaken, and told their parents. Everyone involved was EXPELLED and the freshman and sophomores took the team over. Some parents complained the punishment was too harsh. Well a video appeared of it too and it was so barbaric, the school had no choice but to kick them all out. Even the boys who were there also tossing trash was expelled too for not stopping it.

Why on Earth if you treat me like that would i ever pass you the ball or trust you? Teams are like families. Does my brother beat me like that or throw feces at me? Uses a broom stick on me or makes me drink water in excessive amounts?

Sorry for the rant - i hate that crap!

Justin Turner back to the Dodgers 4/64

Koji Uehara to the Cubs 1/6

  9. Catfish Guest

    2 solid moves. i like turner. i think he's underrated a bit.

  10. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

Turner's definitely underrated, and probably more than a bit. I don't know if it was because he was a late bloomer or what, but he's been one of the Top 25 position players in baseball the last 3 years. And that's without even getting into what he's done in the postseason. Even if he regresses a bit, 4/64 is a steal for a player like Turner.

That's a lot of scratch for a reliever who can't pitch b2b days.

If I were them I'd try stretching him out as a starter.

  17. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

He has pitched 4 starts in the past, but Miami couldn't find a closer this year and their intentions seem to be to put Tazawa in the back-end of the Bull Pen. That is a lot of coin for a guy with an ERA North of 4.00 the past two seasons.

Rod Carew?s heart, kidney transplants were successful ... Good deal for him !

  19. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Brad Ziegler has agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with the Miami Marlins.

Ziegler split 2016 between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox, posting an ERA of 2.25 with a K/BB ratio of 58/26 in 68 innings in 69 games while saving 22 games. He?s been a substantially above average reliever over his nine big league seasons.

The Marlins bullpen is looking pretty good heading into 2017, with Ziegler joining Junichi Tazawa and Kyle Barraclough in front of closer A.J. Ramos.

Yes, I meant to say "again." He pitched well in the minors as a starter, but had a number of injury issues culminating in a TJ in 2010. I think he's far enough removed from that now to take a shot at starting again, and I think he would do better with the regular routine and the rest between appearances.
