That seems ripe for the "so you think you know baseball?" thread.

 

And college player of the year 4 yrs ago. not too shabby.

 

no big moves over the weekend. the winter meetings are in 2 weeks, but not a lot out there for big F/A. The big class is in 2 years- Harper, McCutchen and Kershaw-wow.

 

McCutchen is still being talked about as trade bait.

 

i know. just saying if not, he will be a part of a monster f/a class if all make it there without being traded or resigned.

 

They won't let McCutchen go unless they get something good for him. They'll trade him before the playoffs start or sign him and then trade him before they let him become a FA. They let Aramis Ramirez go for nothing in return because the front office were dumb asses. And the Cubs were set at 3rd base for the next 10 years. I HOPE the Pirates learned something from that! *NO*

 

igloo- i hate when that happens. it's baseball 101. sad it may be the end of his brilliant career in pittsburgh! i hope they get a ton for him!

 

The funniest trade was Bautista and they ended up getting screwed. They gave him every chance in the world to succeed for about 3 years. When he did absolutely nothing, they traded him to Toronto and he was hitting HRs like crazy. Now that I don't consider the Pirates fault as they gave him every chance. It's just that when they traded him, he became a perennial All Star and HR slugger........

Dude he played for 4 years there! Granted he sucked, but still. (And to be fair he sucked the first year and a half in Toronto, too)

He was actually originally drafted by the Pirates but made his MLB debut with the Orioles when they took him in the Rule 5 draft before the '04 season. Then he was claimed off waivers by the Rays in June that year, sold to the Royals a few weeks later, traded to the Mets before the deadline, and then finally traded back to the Pirates a few hours after that.

 

first off-im 45 - don't call me dude. this was 12 yrs ago! 12! i can't tell you half the players in the league then, let alone right now. sorry im not up with the times of the pirates staff from 2004. and with all those trades - seems like he was a player to be named later/waivers/ and thrown in trades a lot. why would i remember him?

whatever Will. I know a lot of trivia, but i don't know everything. and this old team of bautista's is a factoid i didn't know. i will recall it for next time.

ask me what phillies were on the team in 04 and i can list maybe 5 or 6 of them. i didn't know bautista was a bucco. sorry. with all those trades and throw ins, im not shocked i didn't recall him being a pirate. not front page news and especially not, 12 yrs later.
