Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels is there for the taking if a team is willing to part with some of their top prospects.

On Arbella Early Edition, Dan Shaughnessy explained why he is done talking about prospects and wants the Sox to make a move.

"The fact that the division is so up for grabs, in my view you go for it," said Shaughnessy. "Nobody overvalues prospects more than this place. It's not just the team. It's the media, it's the fans? stop falling in love with your prospects, because they get up here and they're not as good as we heard about."

exactly what i said 3 months ago. they're just prospects! for every mantle and trout there is joe blow and joe smith. more busts than stars!

It works for Tampa, it worked for the Pirates and Cubs, the Marlins and A's do it.....Teams are not going to trade away players like Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo or Giancarlo Stanton when they are obvious young super stars with their whole career ahead of them. How many really good years is a team going to get out of Hamels? I won't even mention his salary......

I would rather watch the game on the tele in HD Fish. Lay around on the couch with the fridge a few feet away..... :)

IGLOO-if your team is on the doorstep of winning the title and need a sp considering how many are now hurt in the last month alone - you do the deal. i never said bryant, stanton, or rizzo. i said prospects. stanton has been in the league for a few years now. not him. prospects who never played major league ball and are a total risk and gamble to take. you want to win a ws, hamels can help you. the prospect sitting on a bus in AAA can't!

and a cleaner bathroom and free parking...

  7. cat, i'm starting to worry more and more about your BP (and i don't mean british petroleum or batting practice) with every new day that hamels isn't traded.

LOL! good lord, i sure hope so.

lulz-im good actually. im more mad at why my new ac turns off in the middle of the night. i read if the outside temp hits 60 it will turn off. it was 90 yesterday, so i doubt the outside temp would go that low. at 5 am i was sweating my ass off. my old crappy one never turned off. this unit is brand new and it sucks!

what i posted was my point 3 months ago. swihart etc are prospects. total unknown future. if a team that acquires him wins 1 ws, it's worth it. amaro after bashing the fans this week will be fired soon enough. as more sp's get hurt and a ton already are, hamels will be dealt. i think howard goes to the AL as a DH and Papelbon and Harang go too.

thanks for caring lulz. you do have a heart....

  11. The Red Sox employ Bill James. Not saying he's always right, but everything they do is well thought out. If you're trading with the Red Sox you're getting the guys Bill James doesn't like and that makes me nervous. The built that team with prospects for many years and I don't expect that to change.

boston spends money too and buys or trades for guys - see panda and hanley for example. hamels is just another piece to their stocked pantry.

  14. When's the last time they traded a high prospect for a big name though? I can't think of any since they traded Hanley for Beckett. I'm probably forgetting someone in the middle but I'd still be cautious to take the prospects the Red Sox don't want. They tend to keep the guys they covet.

Edit: They did trade Iglesias for Peavy in 2013.

that's why hamels didnt go for bradley jr and the lesser guys yet. and if boston wants betts and swihart than hamels can go elsewhere.

  16. How many elsewhere's are there though? With a 20-team no trade list and no one wanting to give what Amaro wants I don't think the market is there for Amaro to get his jackpot.

The flip side of that coin is that if Boston feels comfortable that they can readily re-stock their farm system because they have an eye for young talent, then flipping a few key prospects for Hamels isn't so difficult to accept.

market is boston, texas, nyy, la dodgers all have what amaro wants. they didn't want to give it up 3 months ago. how many pitchers are now hurt or out for the year? a lot. more than 3 months ago.

as the deadline looms - hamels will be dealt. all these teams with pitchers hurt or out for the year will call the phils.

new rumor - ryan howard to st. louis for a lower end prospect to replace matt adams. phils eat $50 mil of salary.

I saw on CBS this morning, a headline that I didn't go in to read, that Adams is out until possibly, the playoffs. What happened? He went Slippery Rock College near Pittsburgh. He's from the Philipsburg area. Slippery Rock just retired his number as being the 1st baseball player from there to make to the majors......

Fish, I'm not saying Hamels is a bad or even average pitcher. More like above average in my book. I just think Amaro is asking too much. And I think other teams know this by now. Howard is traded and i don't want to put him in the Hamels category, but the Pills are going to be paying $50 MIL. of his salary........Wow!
