While eternally grateful to Schilling for his role in helping to end "the Curse," I really, really, really wish he would just shut his hole and go away.

Bauer does owe Josh Tomlin big time, though...I know he loves his toys, but he makes enough money to pay someone else to tune them up for him lol

Ugh, and now he's running for the Senate in my state. Barf.

and don't forget the dope used his own money to finance a software company and it went bankrupt. he lost all of his MLB earnings and many people lost their jobs. not too bright.

I couldn't care less that he lost his own money. It was the $75MM in taxpayer money he took to move his company out of the state he now wants to represent in Congress and subsequently lost that bothers me. Yeah, he screwed a lot of people along the way indulging his little fantasy..."hey, I like video games...how hard could it possibly be to make tons of money making video games?" It was like thinking you could build a jetliner out of spare parts from a bunch of old lawnmowers, then when you realize you're in over your head, buying a modestly successful small engine repair shop and running them right out of business, too. And people indulged him all along the way because of his celebrity. I have little use for Elizabeth Warren, but I will run to vote for her over Schilling. I wouldn't vote for Schilling for Dog Catcher. He's built for politics, though...a giant hypocrite with an abiding love for listening to himself talk and a stunning lack of self-awareness.

Wow what an all time pathetic at bat there by Heyward.

Dodgers go up, 2-1 in games with game 4 tonight. Cubs must win this in my opinion.

Indians and Jays go again today also.

this guy had a lot of hype and did well his rookie season but at the plate has really regressed. no idea what happened to him to be honest as this is his what 3rd or 4th team now? he batted .230 this year.

must win for the Cubs Will. They needed to borrow some offense from the Blackhawks after they kicked the shit out of the Flyers last night.

I would argue that considering the matchups and the main reasons the results are as they are that the Cubs getting out of a 3-1 hole would be harder than the Jays getting out of a 3-0 hole.

It may sound weird and is kinda more weird to say after the Jays got one back but that is how I see it.

  20. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

He was awful this year offensively, but had pretty consistently been an above-average hitter prior to that (114 career OPS+ prior to this year). Having reached the majors as an everyday player at 20 and shown promise, I think a lot of people ding him because he didn't turn out to be an elite player. And having reached FA so young, as well, I think there was still some expecation of elite player upside as he entered his prime and he got a monster deal accordingly, and then turning in a terrible season only amplifies that. He still provided good value with his defense and baserunning this year, so I would lean toward the thought that he probably put too much pressure on himself this year to live up that deal and his offense suffered accordingly (not unusual for players in his position) rather than him just getting fat and lazy once he got paid.

And it's not like he's bounced around because the other teams he's played for didn't want to keep him...the Braves tried to sign him to an extension and when they felt like it wasn't going to happen, they traded him a year before he went to FA. And the Cardinals wanted to re-sign him last year, but the Cubs just blew them out of the water with what they offered him. I think there's a decent chance he'll bounce back to being at least 10-15% better than league average again offensively.

All that said, regardless of your prospect status, or whether you're a $23MM a year player or a league minimum guy, you get sent up to pinch hit in the late innings of a playoff game with your team struggling to generate offense and you watch two strikes go by and then weakly wave at the third one, that's just bad and would make me rethink my stance about how invested in performing well he might really be. Maybe he was butthurt about getting benched for Soler. Maybe his swing really is fercacked. I don't know. All I do know is that was one of the worst at-bats by a Major Leaguer I've seen in a long time.
