So much misinformation about whether that really could've happened, but yeah I'd've been A-OK with that so long as it was a similar package to what Texas gave up.

The real best solution, though, would've been for Larry Lucchino not to be an Olympic-class assbag and insult Jon Lester with a ridiculous lowball offer, and just offered him a little more than what Cincy had given Homer Bailey.

what misinformation? they were standing pat on no deals including the great blake swihart and mookie betts. the only thing i don't believe is that philly wanted 6 guys from hamels. now that is bullshit.

see u dog, you weren't on this thread last year when hamels was the main target to be traded. boston said that any deals with swihart and betts was out. billy ripken said "they-swihart, are prospects and for every trout and mantle, you have a thousand joe blows too." i harped on this all summer as swihart is, was and never will be the next great catcher and that boston was simply being cheap! hamels goes to texas and make a run towards the playoffs with a hot hamels. boston pays price a shitload of cash for a guy who hasn't done anything in the playoffs. hamels was far cheaper at that time to be paid and controlled than any f/a. hamels has a better playoff record than price. i was right then and im right now-boston should've traded for hamels.

freaking blake swihart hasn't done a damn thing. betts i can understand, but to not trade bc of swihart was simply unbelievable!

billy ripken was right also - for every trout and mantle, there are a thousand joe blows!

There were tons of rumors about what players the Phillies asked for, what players the Sox refused to deal, would Hamels waive his no-trade, would he do it without the option being picked up, etc., etc. There were never any direct quotes from Cherington or Amaro about what was offered and/or what was turned down. We have no idea how close or far anything ever came to being. Hamels himself said he never felt like anything was ever really close. It's easy to say that Boston should've traded for him...any team should've traded for him if they had the resources. That doesn't mean making the trade was going to be easy, though. Especially if they thought Philly's ask was unreasonable and/or Hamels' no-trade was going to be a problem.

Amaro says now he asked for Betts and Swihart and the Sox said no. 'Course, he works for the Sox now so it behooves him to talk up the guys he currently works with, too. I'm reasonably confident in that scenario that Betts would've been the non-starter, and I'd've happily included Swihart in any deal that brough back a front-line starter, but Swihart does have a rare skill set for the position and he's just a baby when it comes to catching, so I can see where they would've been hesitant, too. If that's even what really happened.

  18. Of course we were dreading it. But our good bullpen blew it Monday night. But it also speaks to the heart of the Cubs team. They never gave up. Baez and Contreras didn't let the moment get to them. Contreras is a rookie (a damn good one, but still) and Baez is 23. Ironically, they were both brought in by Hendry and not Theo.

well Boston loved saying it was 6 guys, which was laughable. Then it was 5 and 3 had to be top prospects. Not even Hamels is worth that. It was packages around either Betts or Swihart and others, but not both in the same deal. That's when Ripken went off. I think he was dead on 100%. A bigger issue was the money you would owe Hamels vs a f/a. Hamels at owed $94 mil with 3 yrs controlled is a bargain over what price and cueto got.

Oh well. Both Boston and Texas are out of the playoffs, so it doesn't matter.

The only place I ever heard the "6 guys" line was from the Dodgers if they weren't going to include Seager or Urias.
