Because the run that would end your season being 90 feet away isn't a save situation. Lulz. I thought Buck was better than that. He's the new Grady Little.
Theres no reason for Cutch not to bounce back. He's had 1 bad year. Is he the only player to have 1 bad year? 30 is not old and young teams need veteran leadership. I can see teams trying to pry him away from the Bucs. The question is, what's he worth after 1 bad year?
i guess he was saving him to save it next year as he didn't bring him in and he lost the damn game! dumbass!
1 bad year, slowing down defensively, just turned 30 and wants his $14-15 mil a year - a handful of teams can afford him, but who wants too?
$14 mil is expensive? For a former MVP who is under 30? Maybe I'm skewed because so many of the Cubs great players make less than a mil, but I'm pretty sure that Miguel Montero makes $14mil and he is going to be the Cubs backup catcher next year.
Congrats. Now tell your team to give us another epic series with the Ranger. And Bautista getting clocked in the jaw would be awesome. Thanks.
he's 30 now and on the wrong side of it. he had a bad year and he regressed defensively. that's 0-3 in my book.
I don't recall ever seeing a 6 win player like Cutch turn magically into a 1 win player in one season at his age. Looking at his advanced stats, it's hard not to come to the conclusion that he was playing through some sort of injury. Move him to a corner OF spot and assuming he regains some measure of the selectivity he appeared to lose at the plate this season and he's easily worth $14MM a year (I'm sure it will rankle your old school sensibilities, 'fish, but $14MM per is the going rate for a solid everyday player...even if Cutch doesn't regain All Star level production, he should at least be solid). And every team in the league can afford him at that price.
u dog - u can have him! after buying out ryan howard for $10 mil after this season ends when he wasn't worth a damn since he blew out his Achilles, i am not overspending on anyone above 30 yrs of age with bad money or a long-term deal! yes he is worth it but after seeing utley, rollins, halladay, lee and howard rapidly decline so quickly after the age of 30, i don't want to see mccutch on my team doing it also!
Everyone but my team's 1st base coach knew that Howard deal was a disaster when he signed it. Players like McCutchen usually age much better than players like Howard (think Torii Hunter vs. Mo Vaughn). yes, $25MM per for a bad-bodied one tool player is overpaying. $14MM per for a solid starter is not. If the Sox wanted to sell high on Jackie Bradley to get Sale or something and move Benintendi to CF, I'd take Cutch in LF at that price in a cocaine heartbeat.
He turns 30 on Monday. So you are off just a bit. Next year is his age 30 season. I would still have a wait and see attitude. Was he really hurt? He's signed through next year with a team option for 2018. To me, that is a good risk for team who needs a leader and outfielder.
the deal was bad but his Achilles blew out and his career was a shell of itself afterwards. Bf the injury - look at his numbers.
He was on a noticeable downward trend even before the Achilles injury, though. He's been below replacement level the last three years...how much better than that do you really think he would've been without the injury? Certainly not enough to account for paying him $75MM for those three years (mever mind the $12MM in negative value he's cost you). You can't have it both ways, man...you can't say big $ long-term deals for players over 30 are bad business and also justify Howard's contract by blaming his poor performance on an injury.
it's not my money u dog. no player would make that if i owned a team! alot! a monster difference in stats! that injury crippled him. Look closer. Other than a modest rebound in '09, his #'s were going down every year after his MVP season. He was a 1-1.5 win player the 2 years before the injury. Even if you assumed he never had the injury and never got any worse than that, you're looking at paying $25MM a year to a guy you should've been paying maybe 7-8. And his trends indicated he was probably going to get worse than that. The injury just exacerbated that trend from "worse" to "guy who actually costs you wins by being on the field."
but no one makes $7-8 mil for .276 31 108 ! and 09 wasn't a rebound year. it was on par with 07 and 08 and he had a better average.
