There was a team here in the 60's. Possibly the ABA, not sure. They had one great player on the team, Connie Hawkins, and they didn't last long...... Edit: Not sure if it was Dr. J ? I think it was the Catfish in The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh movie
september and the playoff races are almost here. after a long season, im ready for some good action and games that matter.
Marlins sweeping the Pirates to move a half game ahead of them. Meanwhile the Mets win the Giants series. So the Mets are still in it. The Pirates were swept by the Marlins down there about a month or 2 ago. Thats 6 in a row they've lost to the Fish now. McCutchen has been terrible all year. Can't hit and and has been affecting his defense in the outfield not catching catch-able balls. Has one of the lowest batting averages on the team. If he would play like he's been playing since he was called up, the Bucs might in the WC spot. With him batting 3rd in the lineup, things don't look good. The starters and bullpen have improved 100 fold. With McCutchen in the 3rd spot, the Bucs will never make it. He can't hit with runners in scoring position either this year. It's around the league now that you can take McCutchen out by pitching to him. No team fears him this year. He's having a terrible year.
Adrian Gonzalez and the Dodgers break all sorts of home run records vs. Reds The Dodgers didn't hit a home run in the first two games against the Reds in homer-haven Great American Ball Park and only managed one on Sunday. They made up for lost time in Monday's matinee, though, which ended up an 18-9 victory. It started with a three-run shot by Adrian Gonzalez in the first. That was merely a sign of things to come, both for Gonzalez and the Dodgers. Andrew Toles and Rob Segedin would go deep back-to-back in the fifth. A few hitters later, Corey Seager and Gonzalez also went back-to-back, giving the Dodgers four homers in the inning and five on the day. They weren't done, neither Gonzalez nor his teammates. In the seventh, Gonzalez hit another three-run shot and was immediately followed by Yasmani Grandal with a home run. Yes, the Dodgers went back-to-back three times in one game. History. In all, the Dodgers hit seven home runs. It was just the fifth time in franchise history that the club hit seven bombs in a game. It also happened in 1976, 1979 and 2006. Only one time did the Dodgers hit more. On May 23, 2002, they hit eight homers against the Brewers. Four of those came from one man, Shawn Green.
Moore's near no-no leads Giants over Dodgers LOS ANGELES -- In the biggest game of the year for the Giants, Matt Moore delivered the best game of his life. He fell one out shy of a no-hitter Thursday, broken up by Corey Seager's soft single to right with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but beat the Dodgers, 4-0, to snap his club's four-game losing streak. The decision prevented the Giants from being swept in this showdown series and trimmed their deficit behind the first-place Dodgers to two games in the National League West. Nearly pitching the Giants' first no-hitter over the Dodgers in 101 years (by Rube Marquard), Moore (8-10) walked three and struck out seven in 8 2/3 innings. He was removed immediately after Seager's hit, having thrown a career-high 133 pitches. Right-hander Santiago Casilla threw just one pitch to retire Justin Turner on a foul popup.
100 RBIs: Another night, another Pujols feat Veteran joins A-Rod, Foxx, Ruth, Gehrig by reaching century mark for 13th time TORONTO -- Albert Pujols added another milestone to his name in the Angels' 6-3 win over the Blue Jays on Thursday, becoming just the fifth Major League player to drive in 100-plus runs in 13 different seasons. Pujols collected his 100th RBI of 2016 in the Angels' four-run sixth inning, slamming a 91-mph fastball into center field to bring home Kole Calhoun and give the Halos a 3-2 lead.
Moore had a high pitch count too by the 7th at 95 pitches. if he threw a no-no, the giants would be the first team ever with no hitters in 5 straight years. the Dodgers had 4 in a row ALL BY KOUFAX. Unreal. haha
Great move. If Dickey isn't in the postseason roster, or at least not a starter, it's good to get a better backup catcher than Thole.
McCutchen had a 3 HR game earlier this year, his 1st......One of the few games that he hit the ball well this season.........Anyways, Bucs a half game out of WC spot after taking a 4 game series with the Brewers. Cards have the same amount of losses but have 1 more win, as in 1 more game played than the Bucs. The bad part is, the Pirates go into Wrigley tonight for a 3 game series....and they have trouble hitting Cubs pitchers....
Iggy - what did you think of the game last night? I'll be honest, I went to bed during the 7th, thinking it was over. What did you think of the umps strike zone? Yikes. I hope he isn't calling balls and strikes in the post season
i think the home plate ump will be gone inside of 10 yrs for cameras and an automatic strike zone. they are trying it out in the minors as an experiment. human error has too much error in it for me in important games.
