M. Teixiera gets plunked in the foot last night and didn't like it. he wanted a piece of the pitcher. calmer heads prevailed.
I'm pretty sure Locke is done. Was given a 4-0 lead after 2 innings against the worst team in MLB and couldn't make it past the 5th inning to qualify for a win........The rookies that were all called up are better. Any takers out there? Your top prospect for Locke?
im in 3 fantasy baseball leagues and starters barely last past the 5th or 6th innings anymore. forget the 7th. it's a joke now. to be paid millions and to only go 5 - 6 innings. pu. also - m. teixiera to retire at years end.
Thanks for the news on Tex, Fish. ________________________________________ As for the pitchers... its been a trend for sometime now that pitchers going 5 or 6 is all thats being asked. Everything is specialized now. You get 5 or 6 out of these guy's, then you can go mid-relief and the 8th and 9th are specialized also. Different pitchers are stretched out differently depending on their classification. I kinda like it strategically, but i do understand your point. Its a real far cry from where the game used to be and in many aspects.
Will ive been in fantasy baseball for years and only really noticed the sp's inning pitched total this year. it's short and ugly.
Well, thats why managers try and give a pitcher 5 innings so he can get the win. Thats been going on for a long time. CG's have been getting more rare by the season. You aint got a Bull Pen, your not going deep in this years playoffs.
A guy will be given 5 almost always unless something goes really wrong. A pitcher will be given 6 if he's doing alright and almost always if he is in line for a quality start. 7 is starting to get rarer though. 7 innings without getting dinged much in the 7th but not playing amazing seems to be the limit unless you are pitching a gem.
The analytics on the 3rd time through the lineup usually has a marked uptick in success for the hitters. The Cubs have pulled starters after the 5th and 6th if there is a good scoring chance even if they are pitching well (well, not Arrieta or Lester, but the other 3).
The Blue Jays, Orioles and Rangers are tied for 1st in the entire AL with the Indians half a game back.
Exactly what happened with Liriano yesterday. 3rd time was the charm and it tied the game for the Royals.
ARod has announced he is stepping down from baseball and retiring early. His last game will be August, 12th. He will be a team adviser for the Yankees.
sad that arod had to cheat multiple times and to end his career with his worst season yet and he still didnt get 700 hrs. even worse - no Cooperstown.
3 - chiro ! DENVER -- With one more iconic swing while moving out of the batter's box, Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki entered historic company on a towering triple off the right-field wall at Coors Field. The drive off Rockies left-handed reliever Chris Rusin in the seventh inning of Sunday's 10-7 Marlins win made Ichiro the 30th player in Major League history to reach 3,000 hits. After time was called, Ichiro was mobbed at third base by his teammates, fittingly led by second baseman Dee Gordon, the 2015 National League batting champion. "More than the number 3,000 itself," Ichiro said through a translator, "when I saw the teammates come out and how happy they were and how warm the fans were, it's not about just the 3,000 and what I did, it's about my teammates and my fans. That's powerful today." In his professional career, Ichiro has 4,278 hits -- 1,278 in Japan and 3,000 in Major League Baseball. Pete Rose, MLB's Hit King, finished his career with 4,256 hits in the big leagues. Ichiro's hit tied him with Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente for 29th all-time and made him just the second player to collect 3,000 hits after turning 27. Rose recorded 3,353 of his hits after turning 27. Ichiro, 42, joins Hall of Famers Cap Anson (45) and Rickey Henderson (42) as the only players who were 42 or older when they recorded career hit No. 3,000. (MLB.com)
These are the next candidates for the 3000 hit club... Hitter + Age + Career hits Adrian Beltre 37 2,878 Albert Pujols 36 2,774 Carlos Beltran 39 2,570 Miguel Cabrera 33 2,459 Robinson Cano 33 2,146
