i know everyone plays inter league games now, but the Phils play Detroit tonight for 3 games. can't recall the last time if ever the phils played in Detroit. I like their stadium.
Vogelsong hit by pitch in head, carted off PITTSBURGH -- Pirates right-hander Ryan Vogelsong was carted off the field on Monday after being hit in the head by a pitch from Rockies right-hander Jordan Lyles. Vogelsong was batting with the bases loaded and one out in the second inning. Lyles' third pitch, a 92-mph fastball, appeared to strike him in the face or bounce off his helmet before ricocheting into his cheek.
Kershaw tosses 2-hitter in Dodgers' 1-0 win over Reds LOS ANGELES (AP) Clayton Kershaw bailed out the Los Angeles Dodgers' exhausted bullpen with his third shutout of the season, and he was quick about it, too. The left-hander allowed two hits and struck out seven on 102 pitches in a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. Kershaw retired his final 17 batters after issuing just his fifth walk of the season to Joey Votto leading off the fourth inning. ''I've seen about enough of Kershaw for the past seven or eight years,'' Reds manager Bryan Price said. Kershaw (7-1) had his franchise-record streak of six starts in a row with at least 10 strikeouts end, but the fans were appreciative, chanting ''MVP! MVP!'' in the ninth. ''I wasn't as good as I had been in the past,'' he said. ''Early in the game, I was falling behind. When you fall behind you're not going to get the strikeouts. As the game went on I got a little bit better with the fastball command and started throwing it for strikes.''
i wasn't alive when koufax played but heard all of the stories of his greatness. i guess kershaw is the second coming of koufax? i am lucky to watch an amazing pitcher and player.
I was watching that game yesterday. It was a makeup game from Sunday's rain out. Both teams had Monday off so they decided to play it while the Rockies were in town. It looked to me like it glanced off his helmet and then hit him in the cheek.......
did you guys see tony gwynn's family is suing the makers of smokeless tobacco bc no one told tony gwynn the dangers of it ? wtf is wrong with them? to blame ignorance is idiotic and shameful! the only person to blame for the death of tony gwynn is tony gwynn! he dipped! he knew the risks and died of lip cancer. sorry i don't see a lawsuit here.
keep your head down and don't think about it. just focus on the pitcher and focus on hitting the ball into play. i know they say the record is unbreakable but you never know when someone just gets hot and keeps hitting. on the day the record was snapped - joe d hit 3 screamers to 3b and the 3b made 3 great plays to get joe d out. if he didn't get him out - joe d hit in another 25+ games straight after the streak ended. if not for the 3b, the streak could be near 80 games. wow! and joe d has the minor league hit streak too for i think the seattle pilots or some pilots team.
NOT IN THE PAST WEEK! *WALL* *REF* igloo--u asked me this last week or the week bf and i answered. they can't score more than 3 runs a game and now it's catching up to them and have lost a lot recently and their 8 game over .500 stretch is now down to just 4 or 5 games. they need to score some runs. can't win 1-0 every time. heard they want nick markakis. good get him. get some tier III major league hitters like markakis instead of schleps like bourjos, goeddel and the other kid. their 2b and ss are slick defenders. they can't hit their way out of a wet sack! i already said i don't care about this season. JP Crawford is coming after June and then the push in 17 and then the best F/A class ever in 18 when they may buy 1-3 top F/A and get ready for the WS!
Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis, the Cardinals did something no team has done in the regular season since last May: they scored more than three runs against Jake Arrieta. The Cardinals put four runs on the board against Arrieta in five innings, ending his historic streak: "Jake Arrieta?s streak of 29 straight regular-season starts w/ 3 or fewer RA is over. It was longest such streak in MLB history". _________________________________________________________ But, he still got the win... he's 9-0.
east coast is seeing temps soar to the 90's the next 3 days! ugh. that's some hot baseball there. offenses should do better now. winter is over ! wahoo! cubs-phillies this weekend. the best of the NL vs the up and comers. I see the Phils winning 1 game, maybe 2 in a miracle. haha.
Ohlendorf wins appeal; 3-game suspension lifted LOS ANGELES -- Reds right-hander Ross Ohlendorf won an appeal of his three-day suspension and will not have to miss any time for his May 11 hit-by-pitch of Pittsburgh's David Freese. Ohlendorf and the Reds' leadership were able to successfully argue that the right-hander's fastball got away from him and hit Freese at the wrong time, when both benches were under warning in a game that saw six combined hit batsmen. "I just explained what happened. I was trying to throw a fastball in and it just hit him. It happens," Ohlendorf said. "I was optimistic that we'd get the ruling that we did, just because I didn't mean to hit him and I felt like I was able to state that during the meeting." Manager Bryan Price argued that the team didn't share the philosophy of "an eye for an eye" and the supposed retaliation didn't fit with the game situation. Both Price and Ohlendorf expressed shock when the punishment was handed down two days after the incident. "Knowing what I know, it would have been an injustice for him to be suspended," Price said. "I think he came across as a very credible witness, even if it's a witness for himself. I thought he did a wonderful job, and his attorney and his agent did a great job." The only person who wound up being penalized for that incident is Price himself, who received a one-game suspension, which has already been served, and an undisclosed fine. Managers and coaches are not allowed to appeal suspensions.

Bradley's hitting streak ends at 29 games Red Sox center fielder goes 0-for-4 in loss to Rockies BOSTON -- Jackie Bradley Jr.'s hitting streak -- which created a buzz around Fenway Park for several days -- ended at 29 games on Thursday, when the Red Sox took an 8-2 loss to the Rockies. "It was a fun ride," said Bradley. "I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed it. Most of all, the team played really well during it. I'm blessed to be in this situation." Bradley, who went 0-for-4 and finished five games shy of Dom DiMaggio (34 games in 1949) for the best streak in Red Sox history, was on deck in the ninth inning when the game ended. Bradley didn't go down without a fight, as two of his outs were warning-track flyouts. "You always want an opportunity, a chance," said Bradley. "If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. And tonight is the night it was supposed to end." The left-handed hitter was more than halfway to Joe DiMaggio's record-setting streak of 56 games in 1941.
