A little hockey broke out at the ol' ballgame. Check out the punch Bautista takes from Odor of the Rangers...
that's an ugly incident Will. The bat flip was from last year. Jeez. Talk about holding a grudge. Not even i'm that mean. Well, maybe. I'm sure a ton of guys will be getting suspended.
Bautista has had that coming his whole career, that slide was bush league and i can't blame Odor for reacting like that.
cbs just found video of oder taking on 3 guys at once in a game in a fight so apparently he lets to mix it up...
I thought his slide was rather tame and well within the rules. Those two clowns and teams were just looking for an excuse to go at it.
That was the exact slide the new rule they put in place was trying to get rid of. That's a dangerous slide with the sole purpose of hurting the 2nd basemen. He didn't even start the slide until he was on top of the base.
im with SC here. Bautista starts his slide way late and thankfully didn't take out his legs. The 2b gets out of the way, but the slide was bushleague.
The rule as written says that slide is what the MLB wants. He didnt leave the base path and he kept his cleats down. He had to slide on that play, there was no other choice. Whether he slides late or early is not an issue according to MLB rules. If it wernt for the 'neighborhood rule' Odor would have stayed off the bag and made a phantom tag... but because of the 'new' rule he had to go to the bag. So with odor on the bag and Bautista forced to slide in, the play was legit as it could have been. If the Rangers and Jays hadnt held a grudge towards one another, going back to the Playoffs, this fight never happens. What Bautista did was a baseball play.
but i thought sliding late was illegal and what utley did? if Odor had his legs taken out due to the very late slide - it's the same as the utley slide. why can't bautista slide early like everyone else? i think he meant to slide late to get a piece of him and just missed.
The new rule states that a bona fide slide is "making contact with the ground before reaching the base, being able to and attempting to reach the base with a hand or foot, being able to and attempting to remain on the base at the completion of the slide and not changing his path for the purpose of initiating contact with a fielder." Bautista did not touch the ground until he was already on top of the base and made zero attempt to stay on the base. There is zero argument for this being a legal slide.
Well, I still dont have a problem with that slide. I took the video and slowed it down and captured this screen shot. Leg is going down and left hand is raking dirt before he hits the bag. By the way... im not a Jays fan, a Bautista fan and i cant stand the bat flip. Just think the slide is legal. We can agree to disagree too... and thats cool.
It doesn't matter what you think of the slide, it's still against the rule and was cheap. His hand may be scraping the ground but that's not what they mean by contact with the ground. There was zero reason to make the slide unless he was trying to injure Odor.
No it doesnt matter, but i got an opinion and i dont have a problem with it. If Bautista wanted to injure odor on that play he missed his chance. He should have went in with his cleats up and really done some damage. I think (which really doesnt matter) that both those guys, Odor and Bautista are jerks. I also think the bean-ball throw in the 7th, i believe, was a chicken shit move by the Rangers.
Will-look at this frozen shot. look at the bag and his front foot? if that's not late as hell - what the hell is? thank God Odor got out of the way or else it's Utley 2.0 again...
What Utley has done and what Bautista did are Apples and Oranges. Man, you guy's put more emphasis on the slide than the solid right Odor threw.
huh? that's after the fact and bc of HOW Bautista slid into the base. That's apples and oranges. What Odor did was wrong. However Bautista was wrong first and caused Odor to do what he did.
