Don't you find it the least bit odd that the source of the depth chart you posted (for those of you following along, it's "ourlad.com - a web site that specializes in scouting collegiate players prior to the draft) shows Kyle Kalis as the 3rd team OC on their depth chart but labels him as an OG on his profile page and then doesn't show him anywhere on the depth chart as an OG yet labels Kush as an OC on his profile page and then also shows him as the 2nd team LG? Yes, Kush might be able to fill the role of a swing interior O-lineman but the fact remains, in his now 5th year in the NFL with 6 different teams, he has never played a snap in a regular season game at Center. There's only one on-line depth chart that I personally place any stock in and that's the one posted by the Cleveland Browns themselves and they don't even post one until training camp is underway. Until they do, I will continue to speculate on my own based on the various players' factual history.
I couldn't find that anywhere in his regular season splits. If you have a reference, post it and I'll admit I missed it.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KushEr00.htm 2013...has him listed as a center...playing in 3 games and starting 1. Also if you google him you see some articles about him fighting for a starting center spot for the Chiefs. Don't let any of that let you forget the fact that he really sucks at what he does.
Thank You. I did miss that. So, since he was drafted in 2013, he has played Center in a total of 4 games, couldn't cut it, got released after two years, bounced around the league with six different teams in 4 years and now has signed with the Browns.
So until then, what do we got? lol! Geez man...This has always been a reliable source in my book. Ourlads is always updated and accurate to my knowledge. I don't care if you'd rather speculate on your own, as far as who you think can do what. That's fine, be my guest. FTR: No, it's not that rare at all to see interior offensive lineman listed as back-ups at different IOL positions. Pretty standard. And that's all I was doing was saying that we have back-ups at the position.... What is the point to all this anyway? You don't approve of my mock or something? lol! I honestly think it's gonna go down as among my best efforts ever. I'm really not sure where you are going with this....Are you just saying we need a Center?
I agree that our depth at the position could use an upgrade...I don't think it's do or die, but if we draft a Center it wouldn't surprise me.
side note: Anyone else notice the "we're expecting big things from Chad Thomas" on E2 of Building the Browns?
Rolling the dice pretty hard one some Year 2 guys... Austin Corbett - replacing an All Pro and Top 5 guard. Chad Thomas - replacing and upgrading Emmanuel Ogbah (admittedly, not a high bar) but when you consider Dorsey passed on guys like Bradley Chubb and Harold Landry in last year's draft and likely figures to pass on guys in the early rounds this year... Baker Mayfield - win a Super Bowl.
I think lost in this is that he was a back-up to Rodney Hudson, a Pro Bowl-caliber center during his time with the Chiefs. He "only" started one game because Hudson wasn't in the lineup on the first snap. He didn't win the starting job over Mitch Morse - a Dorsey draftee - a high-round pick of the current GM who (shock) won a spot on the All-Rookie team. Kush was a center. He was drafted as a center. He was moved to guard, where he "sucked" by Chicago. The only reason he didn't get the starting job in Kansas City was he (1) started behind a Pro Bowl-caliber player, and (2) lost a training camp battle to a future All-Rookie, high round draft pick (he himself was a sixth round pick out of a small school) of the then-current GM (Kush was a pick of the previous regime). We literally just had a conversation about this with the same GM wanting "his guys" and moving players - talented or otherwise - to get the them in the lineup. Ultimately, J.C. Tretter is a Top 5 center in the NFL and has played through injuries. So he's tough, good, and easily re-signabled. We have, in Kush, a former center and swing NFL-lineman who can serve in a backup capacity in the event of injury. I'm not entirely sure where and why the center position is even a debate?
How can someone be considered a top ranked guard when they literally only play 32% of their offenses snaps? Can PFF explain that one for me? If he was really good....his coaches wouldn't make him split time with other players. But PFF knows everything.....who am I to question their immensely subjective rankings? Why actually watch football? Just let PFF tell you who is good and who isn't.
Bump back to @IrishDawg42's original list. DT: + Sheldon Richardson LB: + Adarius Taylor, - Tanner Vallejo, - Jamie Collins CB: - Briean Boddy-Calhouhn, -E.J. Gaines, - Howard Wilson WR: + Odell Beckham Jr. (what?!), + Jaelen Strong, - Ricardo Louis, - Breshad Perriman, - Daniel Williams OT: + Kendall Lamm Depth: + a bunch of JAGs DE: + Olivier Vernon, - Emmanuel Ogbah SS: + Morgan Burnett, +Eric Murray, - Derrick Kindred, - Jabrill Peppers RB: + Kareem Hunt IOL: + Eric Kush, + Bryan Witzmann, - Kevin Zeitler TE: + Demetrius Harris QB: + Garrett Gilbert By my count, we got weaker at two positions (linebacker, cornerback), have an unknown at one position (guard), and got better *literally* everywhere else. R2 + R3: CB/LB R4 + R5: IOL, IDL R6 + R7: S, WR* UDFA: depth *Changes to RB if we move Duke Johnson Jr. before/during draft
