Looking forward to 2019, Browns NFL Rookie Draft

I agree 100%. The problem is, I don't think Greedy or Baker gets to #17... And at this point, I'm not seeing any other CB that would warrant a pick that high.

If either of those two should happen to fall however, similar to Derwin James last year, I'd expect the Browns to show interest....

Though I still think a big-time WR could be every bit as valuable as a top CB...Mayfield still needs that homerun hitter that Josh Gordon was supposed to be.

    From mock central;

The latest 2019 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports analyst Ryan Wilson offers the Cleveland Browns an intriguing option to help Baker Mayfield. Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf is the projection for the Browns at No. 17 overall.

The 6-4, 225-pound Rebel wideout is a real handful for defenses, both with the ball in the air and after the catch.

Wilson’s explanation is a very optimistic view of the Browns receiving corps, though it’s not without merit.

Metcalf is the best wide receiver in this draft and he’d give Baker Mayfield another downfield playmaker alongside Antonio Callaway. And this offense — with Jarvis Landry, David Njoku and Nick Chubb — would immediately be considered one of the AFC’s best.

Built nothing like D.K., but another name to remember is, Andy Isabella...Slot receiver prospect from Cleveland suburbs, that played college ball at UMass..In fact, they callin him the "Julio Jones" of slot receiver prospects. Nobody can guard this guy. Here's a great write up about him. I can't wait to see him play in the Senior Bowl. I'm watching him light it up in practice right now.

Showstopper is talking him up on the Steelers board, as well.

    Even still, I think he's worth a look...lol!

Just kidding.... If I remember correctly, WR is showstppers domain...So can't say I'm too surprised.

I think the kid is worth a serious look...His ability to separate from defenders is truly special.

Though, I can't disagree that giving Mayfield every weapon possible helps in today's offense driven league...

STOPPING any offense possible is more important imho. Why?

Baker Mayfield as a rookie produced - 3,725 yards, 27 TDs(rookie record) to 14 INTs...This was as a rookie AND a late start... Projecting out to a 16 game schedule you are looking at 4,415 yards, 32 TDs and 16 INTs... I would expect a full off season with his current receiving corps could produce a 10% up tick, especially considering the first 7 games compared to the last 7 games produced a +50% increase...10 TDs in the first 7 (reality 6.5) to 17 TDs in the final 7...so if we can realistically expect a 15% increase we should be seeing something like 5,000 yards, 36-37 TDs...with the % of INTs to drop instead of rise...to something like 15...That's with the current personnel and dealing with multiple injuries.

On the other hand, we also dealt with multiple injuries to the defensive backfield and quite frankly, (2) concussions in 3 weeks scares the shit out of me. I think we need another CB to make this a top 5 defense if Ward is healthy, or to maintain a good defense when/if he is not..My hope is Ward learns how to tackle properly this off season..

Wasn't Tajae Sharp supposed to have been a under the radar guy from UMass? I know they're independent of each other, just a thought.

I have seen people talking about Isabella and pointing out how while he may be able to make a db look like he is on skates, but it takes him upwards of 3 seconds to come free after 2-3 moves, and that is a looong time to wait.

Tajae Sharp is an under the radar guy from UMass. He's been on the Titans roster since they drafted him in the fifth round a couple years ago....

I don't know about the folks saying Isabella has trouble separating. That's puzzling. Kid has speed to burn. Probably the same ones that said Cooper Kupp was too slow for the NFL..IDK? He caught 102 for 1600+ yards and 13 TD's this past year alone, so the numbers kinda speak for themselves, as far as whether or not he can get open consistently.... Watching him in Senior Bowl practice, he was as elusive and fast as advertised. Making more plays than any other receiver, anyway....

I should point out, I'm not trying to turn this into a WR thread, even though it may seem like it. That's just the first position group I've decided to take a hard look at....

Believe me, I just want the Browns to take the best football players possible. There are plenty of areas on this team that could use some reinforcement.

    Mayfield/Kitchens' 16-game projection:

    360 of 526 (68.4%), 4,508 yards (8.6 YPA), 38 TD (7.2%), 16 INT (3.0%), 10 sacks, 106.2 QB rating

As a rookie this year, it would have ranked him:

    Attempts: t-13th
    Percent Completion: 7th
    Yards-per-Attempt: 2nd
    Touchdowns: 3rd
    Touchdown Percent: 2nd
    Interceptions: t-1st
    Interception Percent: t-8th
    Sacks Taken: 1st
    QB Rating: 5th

    AS. A. ROOKIE.

Baker Mayfield is already a Top 5 quarterback in the NFL. If he doesn't have a single ounce of progression, he's a Top 5 quarterback behind guys like Brees and Brady (retiring within his rookie contract, most likely). If he doesn't take a single step forward, he's the second-best QB in the AFC behind Mahomes for the next decade.

Given that, adding pieces to the defense - and one that's going to be squaring off against the aforementioned Mahomes - should probably taken preference.

I should note... depends on how you're looking. That could be 32nd and 24th... he would have led the NFL in interceptions with 16. As @IrishDawg42 said, he'll improve on that. And I posted a note a while back, but Mayfield was one of the unluckiest QB's when it came to turnover-worthy plays and actual turnovers with 100%. He was one of only five guys at (or above) 100%.

Laquon Treadwell ruined me for big-bodied pass-catchers from Ole Miss.

I can see the value in that...But I can also see thse Baker stats as all the more reason to keep trying to surround Mayfield with elite players, to maximize his effectiveness.

I really don't think the Browns are in a situation where they are forced to approach the draft with an emphasis on defense or offense....Just get the best player, regardless of what side of the ball he plays on...And of course, much depends on what we do in free agency. If we go get Frank Clark and Dee Ford, then that would play an obvious factor in draft plans. Same as if we went out and acquired Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams....

This team is going to be a factor for the long haul. The plan to build a team capable of sustained success is working. Those first couple years were very painful to go through obviously, but we have a real foundation with which to build around now, and it's gonna be fun to see how Dorsey plays this out in his second season with Cleveland....

The video that I saw was a double/triple move. It did put the guy on his ass, so that was that. He's supposed to have sub 4.3 speed so straight line he should burn everyone. His agility looked good, I just am not too familiar with him, just commenting on the single video and what was said.

The Sharpe comparison was mostly because I like him coming out and he was a disappointment.

With the Browns looking to being back Higgins, Perriman and Robinson (being reported all over today) that could impact their draft plans.

haha...Well there were questions with his foot speed, I remember that...Not the case with DK Metcalf or AJ Brown in this class.

Lucky for Cleveland, Johnny Manziel didn't ruin us on drafting short, brash, quarterbacks from Texas.;)

I don't know much about him either. Didn't even know who he was a couple weeks ago....I kinda came to that conclusion as well, as far as those comments. Figured they must have been talking about double moves, or late breaking routes....

    Oh, I agree completely.

I was (still am) one of the guys hoping the Browns trade for a veteran receiver like Odell Beckham or someone to take Mayfield from Top 5 to undisputed #1 QB. If they want to draft Hakeem Butler this year, I'm all for it.

I agree with the approach to the draft, too. It really should be a BPA approach and we should probably block out all the left tackle noise that a bunch of talking heads are trying to put on us. If the Browns take a left tackle before the fourth round, I'll be disappointed. Greg Robinson was a revelation and Desmond Harrison is still full of potential and just needs development.

Speaking of... what's your Top 5 at the position look like right now?

I'm going to be honest... with how successful this season was, I still haven't tapped into much film or study for the upcoming draft. I have a soft spot for Butler but I don't know that I'm calling him the No. 1 guy.

Just wanted to get someone's take on it...
