OJB is a headcaae just like AB. These guys will be constantly wanting higher contracts because the other one makes more.

Fair enough.. I respect your opinion. I personally would in a heartbeat.

We have a replacement waiting in the wings in Corbett, for Zeitler
We have been discussing replacing Ogbah for months

So, you have to ask yourself if you can get a better player than Beckham at #49 of the draft..we know the chances are pretty low you will get one at #120

The Browns FINALLY have choices this off season. What will give your team the best chance to win games? Then do it...

I personally think this trade gives the Browns a better chance to win. With nearly a wash in cap room.

I don't see any WRs in either free agency or the draft that have proven track record to improve the offense in the near future, Beckham is proven.

The biggest downside for me personally is Kevin Zeitler...I would feel better if I could see him in practice to know there won't be a drop off in play there.

2nd rounders are a 50/50 split on big contributors to their drafting team.

I would feel a lot better about this deal, than the two players and our #17 overall pick...I think we have a GREAT opportunity to get better as a team with a player at #17.

    You could be right....

But, I also think he would have the time of his life playing with Jarvis Landry and Baker Mayfield. I think Odell would be easier to control than AB...AB has gone off the deep end...and he's 6 years older than Beckham.

In the years the Giants were playing good football, Odell wasn't a distraction, the past couple of years when they sucked is when his craziness reared it's ugly head.

It might not matter...many of the rumors out of New York believes the Browns would have to send the (2) Players mentioned, Jabrill Peppers AND TWO first round draft picks...Now, THAT is just crazy...

You currently have one of the better running back tandems in the NFL with Chubb and Johnson and added (despite the PR hit) one of the top 3 running backs in the game with Hunt.

You also have what turned into one of the top 5 O-line units in the NFL and are bringing them back intact for 2019.

Those two things alone should tell you what the Browns want to do in 2019 in order to make life easier for their shiney new franchise QB.

And you want to disrupt all that to add a talented narcissist who loves himself more than the game ? Hard pass from me.

The short answer for me is...You can never have too many weapons

    The long answer is...

Ogbah is not a weapon, or hasn't shown he can be in 3 years at least. Kevin Zeitler isn't a weapon, especially if they think Corbett is a direct replacement for him(and THIS would be my deciding factor in this trade believe it or not)

Hunt may or may not ever play a single down again. He has to do a lot for that to happen, which it probably will, but we don't know.
Duke has been the biggest trade rumor this offseason, there is a better than good chance he won't be here for training camp.

The league is geared towards passing the ball in 2019 and what looks to be the in the future as well, giving your #1 overall draft pick QB the most weapons to make that a strength is also an important thought this off season.

I really didn't give WR much thought before now, because of my feelings on the free agents and rookie draft class in general..THIS would be the one thing I could get on board with that I feel would improve the team overall.

It is hard to find players in the NFL, especially at his position, who are not narcissistic. He is a peacock, I'll give you that, but Jarvis Landry is a narcissist and he fits in this locker room pretty well. Baker Mayfield is a narcissist and he immediately became the leader of the team.

Then we will have to agree to disagree because neither of us will change the other's mind. Ever.

Landry and Mayfield may, in fact, have narcissistic tendencies. Just like virtually every starter in the NFL. The difference is they still love the game more.

I'm not sure you saw that "I'm bigger than the game" attitude his first 3 years in the league. The first two he was getting his footing, the next he was winning games...What you are seeing the last two years might be more about frustration that they are paying a QB $22M a year and losing on a consistent basis. Anyone that competes at the level of Bekham Jr HATES to lose. Winning could certainly quell much of what you are talking about.

Soooo... why would the Giants make this trade?

  11. gidion72 Legend Steelers

Why would they keep starting Eli?

I guess you're right. If we're presuming that the Giants will make decisions decidedly not in their best interest, and objectively a detriment to their team winning, then this trade is feasible. However, in any scenario in which the Giants have an interest in winning football games in the next five years, this trade makes no sense.

I shouldn't have said anything. This board discusses some pretty outlandish things, and the homer discussions here get pretty intense. This is just on par - I shouldn't have said anything. Go about your business, all.

I don't think they would, I am reacting and giving my reasons why the Browns would/should if it were accurate

Yes, you would be better off not making your head spin by looking at our board, imho.

But, we are not making this up, it was a reported rumor.

As for the Giants, if the talk is true that they are looking to blow things up, it makes sense.

They would be getting a 28 year old o-lineman that is arguably in the top 5 at guard. A 26 year old DE, not sure if that is a need, I haven't looked at the Giants needs at all. A second round draft pick and an added piece in the 4th round. If they are really looking at drafting a QB in 2019 and moving on from Eli, then dealing with another year of Beckham may not appeal to what they are trying to do in the locker room. They obviously don't have the leadership in the locker room to keep Odell in line, as @Lyman has eluded to...I think we do have that leadership in the Browns locker room, but I obviously could be wrong.

I agree that this is too rich for Beckham. I still think the Browns would be well-served to explore trade options for him. If Zeitler is involved (Top 3 guard in the NFL), that's all I'm giving with maybe a swap of picks. For example: Zeitler and #49 overall for Beckham and NY's 2020 second round pick (they forfeited this year's third).

  17. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

So, I guess the bigger question here is..for anyone that thinks Beckham is a worthy starter in the NFL, what is his trade value. That is where we need to start.

  18. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Correct me if I'm wrong @Lyman you don't think there is a "fair" deal for Beckham, you wouldn't want him on the roster period...similar to how I felt about Hunt..

I'm a big Cleveland Browns supporter, always have been. It's hard to read through the nonsense on these boards most of the times. But there are poster(s) who bring valuable discussions to the table on occasion. I also don't pay any attention to national sports media, so I can get local insight without the wasted time. I just have to remember to ignore the homerism, etc - sometimes I'm not as adept at it as I should be.

Yeah, but you don't need to give it any credence. I mean, fuck, if we discussed everything that was "a reported rumor" - even if we just limited ourselves to one "reporter" - we'd never stop. Adam Schefter alone would give you a full time day job, keeping up with all the absolute bullshit.

I'm going to assume you've been around the sports world for a while. Therefore, I would think you'd know by now - most of this bullshit is made up, inaccurate, completely speculative, and completely immaterial. Are the Giants looking to move OBJ? Likely. Are the Browns a potential suitor? Absolutely. Is Beckham getting traded for peanuts? Not a chance.

They would have to be literally wanting to blow up their roster, in order to make this deal. Because otherwise, no, it does not make sense.

This is your justification for this trade being valid? I hope not, because it's bad.

Zeitler is a good interior OL. He's 28 and getting paid, what, $10 mil a year? You can draft him in the second round and pay him rookie wages for the next four years. Your case for Ogbah was literally just that he's young and plays DE. I mean, even you know that's a worthless trade piece (despite all the "Pro Football Focus hype" he was getting here, in recent years...). A second and a fourth? Beckham is a top WR talent. The Steelers HAVE to move Antonio Brown, and he's a much bigger attitude problem than OBJ. He's also older. And he has a massive contract problem for whoever signs him... The Steelers are likely getting a first round pick out of him. The Giants are getting, at absolute minimum, that.

This has already taken more time than this rumor was ever worth. That was the whole point. Fuck.

  20. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Tough to gauge value without having the coaching staff's knowledge of Corbett's readiness.

Is Beckham a Top 5 receiver in the NFL? For me, it's close (he probably just misses my Top 5 guys). Is Zeitler a Top 5 guard? Absolutely... he may be #1 in the league. So is a guy who saw 124 targets on 716 total snaps worth more than the NFL's best guard who saw 1,091 snaps (100%) and helped pave the way for a terrific running game?

Yes. IF Corbett is ready to step in and perform at a relatively close level to that of Zeitler's and/or replacing Jarvis Landry's targets (149) with Beckham and a reduction in running game efficiency is acceptable.
