    This Ogunjobi?

I'm pretty sure Sammy meant the Ogunjobi that sacked Ben for a 10 yard loss in the week 1 overtime.

Crazy that there's so many DL's named Ogunjobi. That's pretty cool.

Same dude who beat a better center the next week and sacked a better quarterback. Thrice.

All the athletic talent needed to be successful at the position but apparently lacks the focus needed to mold it.

    Speaking of the offensive line...

Position / Name / Pass Block Grade / Run Block Grade
    LT: Greg Robinson / 68.7 / 52.1
    LG: Joel Bitonio / 88.5 / 64.8
    C: J.C. Tretter / 85.8 / 64.2
    RG: Eric Kush / 79.6 / 48.5; Brian Witzmann / 60.1 / 45.6
    RT: Chris Hubbard / 73.5 / 48.9

... sensing a pattern? Todd Monken, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had them at 625 pass attempts in 2018 (4th most in the NFL) and 389 rushing attempts (22nd most in the NFL). In 2017, they were 605 (3rd) and 390 (26th). They were one of the most aggressive down-field attacking offenses, too.

Cleveland, with a Top 3 QB and a bevvy of very good (including a Top 5) wide receivers should be in that Top 5 passing offense (they finished 12th in 2018).

Offensive line stacked with players who are very good in pass protection while below average in run blocking grades seems to also indicate that may be the approach this season.

    Interesting, Sam.

I'm assuming Corbett didn't have enough snaps last year to generate a grade?

How do those grades compare to, say Kansas City's 2018 O-line (using the same data source) ?

  9. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Correct... I don't know the cut-off, but Corbett was not on the field enough to gauge. There seems to be concerns with him so far through OTAs regarding winning the job, so keeping Kush penciled in as the starting RG seems prudent at this point.

Position / Name / Pass Block Grade / Run Block Grade
    LT: Eric Fisher / 74.8 / 68.5
    LG: Cam Erving / 57.7 / 44.9 (no surprise, he's the NFL's worst starting o-lineman)
C: Mitch Morse (signed with Buffalo) / 82.7 / 61.3; no data on the new center
    RG: Andrew Wylie / 64.5 / 60.0
    RT: Mitch Schwartz / 85.6 / 71.8

    In a related move . . .

The Browns have signed UDFA Ka'John Armstrong - Tackle out of Eastern Michigan University. Armstrong participated in a Mini-Camp tryout with the Browns a few weeks ago.

The reason I asked about the Chiefs' O-line grades is that I see a lot of similarities between what the Chiefs did in 2018 and what we're hoping the Browns do in 2019.
    • The Chiefs had a dynamic 2nd year QB.
    • The Chiefs had two prolific pass catchers (albeit one of those two was a TE).
    • The Chiefs had a productive running game (part of which is now a Brown).
As far as their 2018 O-line compared to what we're guessing ours to be in 2019,
    • They stand tall at both tackle spots (Fisher at LT and Schwartz at RT) in both pass protection and run blocking.
    • We graded out better on the left side of the interior line (Bitonio and Tretter) in both pass and run blocking.
    • We split at RG. Kush graded better than Wylie in pass blocking, Wylie better than Kush in run blocking.
Imagine if we still had Zietler and Schwartz !!!

With the release of D. Harrison the other day, I would think the Browns should get on the phone with the Skins. Need some bodies/depth on the OL especially at both the LT and RT spots.

Pretty hard to do after the commitment to Robinson. What do you do with him? Williams is the immediate starter at left tackle on about 28 teams in the NFL.

What commitment to Robinson? He's on a one year deal with a $7M cap hit.

You don't give a guy a 500k signing bonus to be your left tackle and then replace him before camp even starts.

NFL teams spend more than 500K a year on ankle tape.

I disagree. The situation changes when a proven T is available.

At the same time, I can't help thinking that Robinson becomes another Schwartz / Zietler.

  20. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Nonsense. $500K is no commitment whatsoever, in NFL terms. If they can get a better LT, they will. With the cap space they have, they shouldn't have problems keeping both, if they really have doubts.
