Is there anybody else the Browns might target as DC? Haven't heard about much of a list due to Williams having been in the running for HC. And who's the new OC going to be (or more likely Asst.OC/HC with Kitchens keeping that role)?
I'm not sure they will name an OC. If they do, it wouldn't surprise me to see someone within the organization to be promoted, either Ryan Lindley, Ken Zampese, Adam Henry or Bob Saunders would be the most likely group they would look at. DC, who knows, the ink isn't dry on Kitchens new promotion. We will probably start hearing names this afternoon or tomorrow on the possibilities.
With rookies all over the place (Mayfield, Chubb, Callaway) and reclamation projects at key spots (Robinson, Perriman).
Look at it this way . . . Instead of having one opening at head coach, we now have two openings. DC and OC. Twice as much to talk about.
- Still high on my list, I'd love to see the Browns get Cowboys DB coach Kris Richard as DC, assuming he doesn't land HC job somewhere... -Another name that I haven't heard mentioned much, but I think could be a strong possibility because of his experience as a HC, is Chuck Pagano...And it might not be a bad idea to bring in somebody like that to support Freddie. Not sure if Pagano wants to coach again, but just a name to remember. - The Browns already showed some interest in Pats LB coach Brian Flores, so that could be another possibility. - I've heard that they want to stick with a 4-3 base defense... - haven't heard much about OC other than it won't be Ken Zampese...I did hear on the radio that Mike Munchak could be in the mix. Wouldn't that be something? Another guy with HC experience would seem to make sense. Stay tuned.
They were just talking about this on TheFan... There are reports coming in that he flew into Cleveland last night and it is expected he will become the OC today for Kitchens. Not sure how I feel about this one, but he certainly is qualified. Seems like another guy that will be on loan as teams will most likely be looking at him as HC material next year when the Browns offense takes off.
Wow. It's coming together quickly...I know Munchak was one of the greatest OL to ever play, and he spent like 30 years with the Oilers/Titans organization. I would imagine we should expect a power running game based attack, but I'm just guessing. Hell, maybe he'll open up the ol "Red Gun -Warren Moon style" wide open attack...lol! I'm not sure what to expect.
I'm a little surprised. I expected Kitchens to stay on as play caller, but with the Munchak hire, I'm not so sure..
He's never been an OC, but he was a HC for three years in Tennessee before joining Steelers... I believe the Munchak era as HC coincided with Chris Johnson's glory years as their lead back. Gotta believe this hire isn't gonna hurt Nick Chubb any. How much of the offense can they really take away from Freddie Kitchens? He was promoted because of how effective our offense was, right? I know he has more on his plate now, but I don't expect nor want Kitchens to give up play-calling regardless of who our OC is....Munchak will undoubtedly be heavily involved with O-line and game plan preparation, but I'd be shocked if he's calling plays on Sundays...
Munchak could make a lot of sense. Give your tender new head coach a coordinator (or two) that has prior head coaching experience and excels in a position group you're trying to grow.
