Also, even the Washington Capitals are in the NHL with the aspiration of one day winning the SC. They also are run by managers & coaches that have spent their entire lives thinking about how to get better results in hockey games.

What I'm getting at is that the Capitals permit #8 to shoot so much because that is his strength, and it gives them a better chance to win when he's playing. If you had someone who was unwilling to pass the puck to a teammate in order to create superior scoring opportunities then you can be sure they'd reign him in.

I do not like the Caps, and delight in their annual futility (at least so far) in falling short of the ultimate prize. But #8 is their strength and he's the core they've built everything around.

It is my perception that harping on him because he shoots so much comes across to many as engineering a reason to denigrate him rather than legitimate analysis of his game. Note my emphasis on perception; perceptions form everyone's reality, and this discussion appears contrived rather than genuine. That's my take.

 

There is no guaranty that someone who takes the same amount of shots as Ovi would score as many goals. The fact of the matter is the guy puts the puck in the back of the net year after year. If it were as easy as just taking a lot of shots then hypothetically everyone could do it.

 

As I mentioned earlier, it would be absolute folly to criticize 0vul8r’s overall game and not recognize what a truly great hockey player he is. In my opinion, he is one of the best but he is not a sniper. His numbers don’t support the overall definition. He is a great hockey player and one of the best the world has ever seen, no denying that. But I raise my rolled up bill to fate... and the continuing ultimate denial.

If that were the case, Washington should have scored more goals than every other team all but 2 years since Ovi, has been in the league, but that's immaterial, because the point of contention, was is ovary a sniper, and unless you illogically muddle waters, the answer is clearly no.
