Huh, you'd think he could have easily took out the Death Star will allthose shots he takes.

  5. NFL-Solomon Franchise Player Steelers

Chee, OV failed to win at something again, but Sid did.

Even though Jarome Iginla started playing 9 years before Ovenchicken, Ovenchicken only has 378 less shots on goal.

Jaromir Jagr started playing 15 years before Ovenchicken and only leads OV by 1196 shots on goal

Sign of the End of Times:

Alexander Ovechkin is only 21st in shots on goal so far this year!

  8. NFL-Solomon Franchise Player Steelers

Just a few games later and OV is 12th in shots.

I was looking at OV's twitter and somehow missed this gem from the trade deadline:

Ovechkin better get busy, he's in danger of having the streak of 12 connsecutive years with a Russian leading the league in shots end.

(10 of those 12 years it was ovenchicken himself)

He can have all the shots he wants as long as they don't go in! :D

    LOL

Well probably that too, based on the drunken contortions after he finally scores, but I meant "shots on goal"

Alexander Ovechkin has just gotten his 1000th NHL point.

    Congratulations Alex.

It only took him 4,393 shots to get that 1000th point.
In the History of the NHL, there are only 14 players who have more career shots than OV.

There are 83 other players who have more career points than Ovechkin.

The closest to OV in shots is Teemu Selanne with 4540, 147 more shots tha OV
    resulting in 455 MORE points

Wayne Gretzky took 1,813 more shots than OV, and that got him 1855 more points.

Mario Lemieux took 760 LESS shots than OV and has 721 MORE POINTS!!!

OV is a "sniper" my ass.

i wonder how many of those 14 players w/ more shots than Ovenchicken are HOFers. i also wonder how many of those are sniipers.

All but 4, and 2 are active and will be in Jagr, Iginla, but all of them have played for more years than OV (an average of 21 years) or about 9 years more than OV

so what does this say about shots and shot attempts? most common 5v5 analytical stats are based on shot attempts for vs against. getting the puck to the net is usually the answer.
shooting percentages have all gone down based on the major differences in goalies and systematic hockey over the past 10 years........20+ years ago almost looks like a different sport.

While what you say is true, hockey has changed more than once in my lifetime, so you can't discount the history either.

So, what is apparent to me from all of this is:

    1. Ovechkin is not a sniper.
    2. A sniper accomplishes his goal with the minimum often 1 shot.
    3. The fact that no one considered a "great" or a "sniper" has anything near OV in shots AND Goals shows that he is factually neither.
    4. The idea that he is just throwing pucks at the net to create offense is proved false by the fact that no great player has this shot/goal profile. If it were true, somebody would have done it in 99 years

    Amen
OV is only 3% lower in Shooting % for his career. That was an era of non coverage non-system. Brett was being allowed to cherry pick against goalies who took up 30% less space in the net most of his career. OV has been reeled in far more often than Hull was too. Hull use to brag about not playing defense, and he was up against so many more stone handed, non shot blocking, pylons at the blueline too.

Ovenchicken takes plenty of bad 5 on 5 shots, but those have been drastically reduced under Trotz and it's reflected in various stats. On the PP, the list of better shooters is very difficult to compile. If you're on the PP, I don't think there is a better wing in the game for the last 11 years.
