I assume bears saw this from last year and are trying to correct him as well.

Also, I’m taking this with a grain of salt. A top defense is manhandling the offense in training camp. This is a good problem to have, as packers edges Zdarius and Preston smiths probably won’t be doing what Mack is doing, and Mitch’s clock can time better.

Now if it were the other way around—I’d be very concerned.

Tuna, you're the hero we need. Much appreciated, sharing your thoughts from camp. Always one of my favorite parts about this community. Mad respect and many thanks. Hope it was an awesome time.

They're not sure yet. It could be something like Meniere's disease (inner ear), could be more neurological. We'll see how things shake out.

A couple of good mentions above that I've been noticing as well:

WR / offensive skill positions are going to be insanely hard cuts. That's not to say the team is full of all-stars, but there's a ton of role players and young guys with potential. Nagy and Pace really made sure they could pick their best handful. I think Wims has to be a lock - I was stoked they got him, and I think he's been showing steady progress and production. The competitions for those back-end positions are going to be fierce.

Mitch is absolutely underthrowing balls routinely. Last I read, he threw five picks today, and underthrowing / hesitating was key to three of them. I know I've been critical of the guy, so I'll continue to hold back until we see the regular season. Frankly, now is exactly the time he should be throwing picks or messing up. I just wish he wasn't. We'll see how this goes. Nagy showed last year that he could pull Mitch along enough with innovation to get us wins - will that be a career-long thing, or will Mitch ever step up?

Nickelback is going to be a mad position battle that'll need taking about, as well. Nobody is just going to replace Callahan, but the competition to try is worth watching.

Kicking game seems to be coming along - both kickers routinely hitting 7 of 8 each day, in multiple conditions.

    That's interesting!

When I was 18 I went through something like that but I never went to the doctor about it. I remember falling off the seat in my boyfriend's car when he tried to kiss me goodnight and bouncing against both sides of door frames when I tried to walk through them. I hope it's easily resolved at any rate dline.

I was diagnosed in 1994 with Menieres and now I'm deaf in my left ear.....I wear a hearing aid.....it was brutal as attacks were diet related and I experienced MAJOR dizzy spells and was nausea's........I was told to avoid SALT in diet.......hard to do as SALT is in everything........BUT I avoided it and it worked as far as Attacks were concerned.............it is a common disease with Men in their 40's......surgery is really risky so just learn to deal with it.......try and reduce your SALT intake.

I wish you all the best because I know how awful attacks can be.

I don’t see the Orton comparison to be honest. We have all seen both of them play and Trubisky has a playmaking ability you never saw in a QB like Orton. And not just running but eluding the pressure and delivering a big throw as well.

Let’s face it Mahomes made the Trubisky pick look bad. There is no way to deny that but just because one guy looks like the next coming the other doesn’t have to be dog shit.

Mitch took a big step last season from his rookie campaign. It will take a much smaller step this season to be seen as a franchise guy.

You can still get Sunday Ticket if you can find someone who can't get Direct TV. I've used my sister in laws info the past couple of years as she is in college and can't put a dish up at the dorms.

I did not mean to imply that Orton or Trubisky, for that matter, are "dog sh!t". I don't consider either of them to be so. As a matter of fact, Orton had one hell of a season in Denver after he left. I can only wish Trubisky had that kind of year.

I actually thought the Trubisky pick was bad to begin with. Way too high for someone like him coming out of college. It was the "lightning in a bottle" approach, yet again. I wouldn't mind a notch above a good game manager with him, but the pick doesn't warrant that. What's worse though, is that he is the worst QB in the division. That pisses me off more than anything. (Probably because I am sick of the "Chicago Carousel" at QB.)

I very much appreciate that. It's still new, and there's no official diagnosis yet. The first time it happened a few years ago, I was misdiagnosed over and over again (couldn't pay for proper care / tests, at the time), so I lost hearing in my right ear. When it happened this time, I had educated myself enough to know I needed to take it seriously, and that I had enough in the bank account to at least try and save my hearing. So far, still trying to get back into the swing of things. Last time took me out for 6 weeks before I got to the point I'm at today, 1 1/2 weeks later, so here's to hoping I can stem the damage this time. Good to know it's common for men in their 40's - it started with me in mid-20's, so I'm glad to hear I'm out ahead of the curve!

    Agreed.

Agreed. I mean, Pace deserves credit for having his choice of QB, trading up, and still potentially getting the worst QB in the first round, but I hear you on the Mahomes issue...

This is where we highly disagree. Trubisky has a long way to go before he can be called a franchise QB. Frankly put, he's the weakest spot on the roster, at the most important position. This team succeeded on the backs of Nagy's playcalling, multitude of offensive weapons, and a defense that was best in the league. Comparing Mitch in season 1 vs season 2 is apples and oranges, considering the circumstances (Fox vs Nagy, etc).

If Trubisky only takes a "small step" this year, we likely finish with the same or worse record. He needs to be markedly better this year, and anything less should be alarming. I know I've been a Trubisky pessimist, so I'll be happy to be wrong, if he shows out.

I think he took a big step last year but still needs a medium to big step this year. The progress we saw was his confidence running the offense and a major improvement from week 1 to the playoffs in his composure in crunch time. What he absolutely needs to fix in year 3 is his downfield accuracy. Without that he will never be better than average in this pass-happy league, and he will be a "win with" guy rather than a "win because of" guy.

dline.........I'm thankful I live in Canada and have full Medical Insurance .....I saw a Specialists RIGHT away (Ear,Nose and Throat Doctor) and was Diagnosed.

The first thing he said to me was control your Diet and do your best to avoid Salt........it creates a electrolyte magnet in your Brain Stem...and effects your Balance.

As you are aware then the Attacks happen..........and they are BRUTAL.

dline..........just be aware of your Salt intake.

Nah, I live in the good ol' US of A. I spent 6 weeks laid up, going deaf in my right ear, because I didn't have the money for good doctoral care. I went in, they said it was just extreme vertigo, and gave me some motion sickness medicine. They said they'd need to do further specialized testing in order to give me any further care. Needless to say, between shitty employer insurance and shitty employer pay, I just couldn't afford that in my mid-20's.

Flash forward to now, I knew to go to an ENT right away, and give them the scoop. They gave me enough meds to get by, but said I'll still need further testing and treatment that's not covered by my insurance / going to be a lot more pricey.

I'm 28 years old. I have enough money in the bank that I can move houses in the coming month, pay rent, keep a roof over my head, feed myself, etc. But, I don't have enough money in the bank or good enough insurance to do all that and keep my hearing, diagnose my inner ear / neurological issues properly, properly treat my debilitating intestinal issues, or the litany of other things wrong with me.

This is a football forum, so I'll keep it fixed on that, but... I just wanted to celebrate the fact that you got decent healthcare, and share my regretful jealousy. I appreciate the advice on how to handle it going forward - maybe I'll be able to afford the testing and simultaneous time off of work to get tested, so I can get an official diagnosis and treatment.

For now, it just means I won't have to worry about muting the shitty announcers on TV, anymore. Silver linings.

  14. Good Luck for your Bears in 2019.........They play the Titans in Final week of Pre-Season Aug 29th....you will probably be crying at the end of the game...lol

  15. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Ah, it's a preseason game. Considering how short of a week they have before actual Week 1, I sincerely hope none of the meaningfully rostered players even take the field against the Titans.

I didn’t mean to imply you felt Mitch was dog shit it’s just the national perception is kind of mind numbing. In Trubisky’s rookie season it was all about Watson. In his injury shortened Rookie season he was the next coming. Bears fucked up. Took the wrong guy. Well in their second seasons Mitch closed the gap quite a bit between the two. As for Orton Mitch had a better year last season than Orton ever had. That breakout year with the Broncos?

    Orton 62.1% 21tds 12ints 86.8 rating 8-7 record
    Trubisky 66.6% 24tds plus 3 rushing 12ints 95.4 rating 11-3 record

All 3 of the other QB’s in the division have a lot years on Mitch. Your not going to find anyone who would argue that Trubisky didn’t have a better season Stafford so at the worst he’s 3rd best behind a sure lick HOFer and a QB who is on a 5year tear but can’t get those stats to equate to winning. I am not saying Trubisky is a sure fire thing but coming off this past season with some progression he could very well be in the top 10 QB mix.

  17. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

    Using the DeShaun Watson comparable:

Which team do you think put their QB in a better position to succeed this past season?

My contention is that Mitch's ceiling is that of an average QB, and it will constantly take a well-organized effort to get that from him. I don't think his ceiling is anywhere near a top 10 QB, even with a stellar supporting cast / effort.

There's always been one thing about Trubisky that ive never truly reconciled. He was scouted as being a highly accurate passer in college yet there have been many times when his lack of accuracy has been flat out dumbfounding. His completion % imo is a little misleading. There's a TON of very short throws in there. Once you get past that the accuracy issue is legit. But why?

Its possible the scouting report was wrong, it was a tiny sample size afterall. But i don't think so. There's often been a frenetic quality to Trubs play, he can look frenzied. Unless he identifies a mismatch pre snap and already knows where he's going with the ball he rarely looks to me like he has a lot of time back there. I think its a processing issue tbh, which is partly an experience thing.

I've never seen a QB look like they have more time in the pocket than Drew Brees, not even Montana. The guys a marvel surveying the field, going thru progressions and getting ball out in time. And of course, Bress doesn't have any more actual time than any other QB, pass rush takes the same time to get there. He's just so much better at processing.

If there's one thing i'd like to see Mitch improve this year its that. But the mental side of anything is far harder to execute when you're not composed. I want to see him play calmer, from that will come a greater feeling of control and when you feel in control you see things more clearly. He'll start getting through those progressions. He'll know where to go with the ball. The accuracy will improve.

I agree with rob i don't think its a giant step up that he needs to make this year. But its a tricky thing that he needs to improve on, and his reported work ethic won't help him much with this. It won't be done in the gym. It won't really be done in the film room either. It will only be done a little bit on the practise field. Most of the learning of this skill can only take place organically during real games.

But Im feeling optimistic today so i think he's gonna keep getting better. Im backing Mitch to have big year.

    Go Bears!!

Bears’ depth chart released this morning

I like: Bilal Nichols starting 5 tech.

My concern: an undrafted rookie over Shaheen as #2 TE.

I’m baffled: Sherrick McManis is a safety and Taquan Mizzel has a roster spot.

  20. bigrobo876 Franchise Player Bears

One big difference between the two is that last season was Watson’s second in the same offense. That automatically puts him in a better position. Yes he did have to come back from a bad injury I’ll give him that and his o line was pretty terrible. But he has maybe the best WR in the league and went through 2 full off seasons with the same group of weapons.

Mitch started over from scratch last season with a new playbook and a new group of weapons who were all learning a new system as well.

Both guys have the luxury of playing with very good defenses.

I get not getting all giddy just yet but trying to gage his ceiling right now for me is near impossible so I just don’t get how anybody can be so convinced he will be nothing more than average given what he has shown so far.
