DESTROYER with an unrecognizable Nicole Kidman. Wow. Crazy movie. Must pay attention. Ending is like a M. Night Shymalan movie. I had to rethink my view on it once it sunk it. I liked it alot. Not for everyone but man what a performance by Kidman. Was robbed of an Oscar Nomination.
the town is a great movie. affleck had to cut it down to size from 4 hrs to 2 hrs. scenes in the real film are actually sliced and diced into what we saw. the scene wheren Jim hits Affleck with his gun over arguing to leave is really about when Jim brings up his sister and he can't leave his sister and her kid and "his" kid, Affleck says she banged half of Charlestown and that's why Jim really hits him. Interesting. Also at the end, Affleck filmed 2 more different endings. The one being this -- the 2 guys him and Jim beat up wearing hockey masks are waiting for Affleck behind a warehouse where Affleck goes to get in a second car after the Fenway robbery. This was the florist way of making sure if anything happened to him, Affleck still dies. wow. The book ending is totally different than all of it. American History X is a powerful gut wrenching film. i read something 2 weeks ago i never thought of before. the kid who kills Danny didn't kill him over Danny sticking up for a nerdy kid in school. he kills him bc his older brother was the one Derek killed by stomping his neck on the curb. i thought the kid killed Danny over the nerd thing. there was a rumored that proved false that Edward Norton wanted a different ending to the movie. this part is true. he was a pain in the ass to work with and the director hates him. this part is true. what is not true is the alternate ending where after danny dies, there's a scene in the bathroom at their shitty apartment of Derek shaving his head to go back to being a skinhead. to me that makes no sense after he left it in the first place and i doubt Cameron would take him back. he worked so hard to leave that life, what does Danny's death have to do with still leading a good life over going back to being a loser skinhead? Full Metal Jacket is like 2 movies. Before and after Marine training. To me there's no way the Marines would allow someone as dumb as Lawrence aka Gomer Pyle, who can't even tie his own shoes or make a bed, to be in the Marines. As his psyche dissolves and it' s apparent, i doubt the marines would keep him in the core. the guy wasn't even responding at the end of basic training. come on now. R Lee Ermey got robbed of an Oscar nomination.
Don't think I would have cared for the ending with the two guys clipping Affleck - how would Fergie have known that Affleck and Jim were the ones who attached the two? Where did you hear that about the kid who killed Ed Furlong being the brother of the guy Norton curb stomped...? I LOVED R. Lee Ermey. For a guy who didn't really have a big film role until his 40s, he was a natural.
charlestown is a small town. word gets around. i read it somewhere online last week. R Lee Ermey was great.
Eh, it wouldn't have been convincing for me. Charleston isn't THAT small (about 17,000 people), plus the attack wasn't in Afflec's neighborhood. Same with AHX - until I see a writer or director acknowledging that, to me it's just an internet theory.
AHX - i saw it in more than 1 place. i think it started as a myth bc Norton was so hard to work with and wanted a different ending, fans dreamed up that ending as his ending and that's why the director hated him. the director did hate him and he's notoriously hard to work with, but he didn't think of that ending. for the Town - i saw it on the alternative endings on the special DVD version. it's hard to find with those alternative endings in it, but i did see it. it's not a myth. and Axe Jim takes off his mask. He went away for 7 years, so perhaps he had a reputation. i don't know. all i know is those 2 guys kill Affleck and mentioned the Florist gave his name to them.
I actually see the point in both endings - Ed Norton shaving his head was the director's vision of showing the endless circle of violence. But in the movie (probably in a part Norton re-wrote) he comes to accept what Sweeney has intimated: has being a skinhead and carrying this hate improved his life in any way? (answer: no). Beyond that, the movie is loosely based on the life of Frank Meeink - a former skinhead who is now out of that culture and is on the lecture circuit speaking about acceptance. Oh, I'm sure it's not a myth. I'm just not sure it would have rang true for me.
Saw Lego Movie 2 with the little dude over the weekend (ffs he's 9, he's not little anymore lol). Entertaining, but the first one was better. Wifey saw Green Book while we were ln LM2, she really liked it.
well the director hates norton and what i read was an urban legend. there is no scene where he shaves his head and goes back to that life. norton is a smart guy. went to an Ivy League school. he was not the Hulk in the Avengers movies bc he was a pain in the ass on the Hulk movie he was in. a great actor, but a pain to deal with.
i was at the Phila airport years ago and saw the Iron Sheik on the back of a golf cart being driven through one of the terminals. he had a wwf tote bag on his lap. i heard he's in bad health now like many of the old timers. sad.
true but once he got famous, he became difficult to deal with and wanted dialogues or endings of other movies rewritten. his job was to act, not be a director or producer and start changing things around. big difference. stick with what you know. don't use your clout as a A list actor to warrant changes when you have no authority to do so.
Liam Neeson double feature -- Cold Pursuit. Maybe the worst movie i ever seen. horribly edited and chopped together. didn't know who characters were. had to wiki what the hell or who the hell people and scenes were about. terrible across the board. avoid. Widows - could've been a lot better. kind of hard to believe. decent movie but has too many flaws and lackadaisical scenes.
A little spoiler alert on the Goalie movie, there's two Johnny Bowers, an old one and a young one. I could tell they're filming at the old maple leaf gardens, whatever is left of it.
POLAR - crazy movie about a soon to be retired assassin and his bank account and someone not wanting him to collect on his pension. one of the best shootouts as well. not bad. the Favourite - ugh. Not what i expected. An odd movie. I can see why Olivia Colman was Oscar Nominated, but I can't see why she won the Oscar. She doesn't do much in the movie and when she does it's so over the top silliness it makes her character very hard to believe she wasn't removed as Queen or just bumped off. She's that unpredictable and silly. Weisz and Stone were excellent in their roles.
FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY. -true story of former WWE female wrestler Paige. The actress portraying her looks too short to be Paige. A decent movie. they don't mention Paige had to quit the WWE due to a serious injury last year and the infamous sex tape of her and a former WWE RAW GM and current wrestler at the same time. Due to the sex tape, she lost a ton of weight and was depressed etc. don't want a sex tape released ? don't film yourself being fucked by 2 guys at the same time you trashbag !
Keenan Thompson may never make it in the movies from SNL the same way many others did like, Eddie, Piscopo, Waynes World, but he's really talented and comes through when called upon.
