how come i never heard of all these funny movies?? caddyshack? check. animal house? check. it's a mad, mad, mad, mad world? check? back to school? check. stripes? check. never heard of A GUY THING ?? who is in it ? when did it come out?
I think it's generally underappreciated. Overall I'd still probably put Unforgiven and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly ahead of it.
The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) - Very good comedy featuring Bette Davis, Ann Sheridan, Monty Woolley, Jimmy Durante.
for Westerns - many are the same plot. i do like Unforgiven and Shane though. And I'm a fan of Tombstone, although it' so over the top and Wyatt Earp as well.
Just watched a new movie for the first time... this year? They're not exactly "new", but I hadn't seen them. The House - Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Jason Mantzoukas, etc. Lots of good comedians in this one. All very funny. Premise is that a married couple can't pay for their daughter to go to college, so they open up an illegal casino in their house, in an effort to raise the funds. It was just well-paced and funny enough that you didn't pay attention to how silly some parts the premise were. It was a fun ride, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a lot of easy laughs. I might be biased because of how much I enjoy some of the people in the film based on their prior works, but I and my roommates all thought equally of it. Alien: Covenant - Prometheus got knocked because it was an introspective, more intellectual installment with a deeper look at the lore and history of the Alien franchise universe. This movie is the exact opposite. It takes place in settings that beg and plead for more explanation / exploration, but you don't get it. You get a crew leading a colonist ship into deep space exploring an anomalous world, and being beset by the xenomorph alien creatures. You get some of the suspense, the gore, and the gunfire that you would expect. The most redeeming quality of this movie is Michael Fassbender's performance. The dude kills it. Wish he had more in-depth material to work with, but, he does a great job playing two different characters. If you want a more predictable action flick that's pretty to look at and is driven by Fassbender's strong portrayal of two different characters, this is a good candidate. I wish it were more like Prometheus. Of course, even though this one was the polar opposite, everyone also criticized it, so...
i didn't get how Prometheus was the search for the beginning of mankind and the origin of man. so they went looking for it in space ? not the cavemen on Earth ? i didn't get it. same for covenant. fassbender dline as you said was great. the guy even as Magnento doesn't give a bad performance and is already Oscar nominated and could have 2 other noms if the votes fell differently. he was the best part about the movie.
A lot of people believe that mankind was brought here from another planet. Meaning our origins would be from somewhere in outer space.
I don't know about being brought here, but . . . If you take the shear number of stars in the sky (even just the ones that we can see), and consider that every one of those stars can have a solar system similar to ours orbiting them, then its a statistical improbability that NOT ONE of them hasn't developed and evolved some life form.
Agreed. If you say it a trillion-to-one that there's life anywhere else, all that means is that there are a billion planets that support life - and that's just in the observable universe.
Josey Wales isn't only Clint's greatest. It is one of the best of all time. "dyin ain't much of a livin" who says that nowadays. I honestly think Clint the director is better then Clint the actor though. Million Doller Baby, Grand Torino(he did act in that too, great casting), Hacksaw ridge, American Sniper... And he did direct The Outlaw Josey Wales as well. The greatest movie maker of our time.
Doesn't make much sense for "someone" to go through all that trouble just for one minute speck of blue dust.
he got robbed for Best Director and Actor for Gran Torino. I don't think it was up for Best Picture either.
The Sand Pebbles. Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, Richard Crenna, Candice Bergen, Mako. Very good movie about a U.S. gunboat crew on China's Yangtze River in the 1920s.
