i liked Allied and saw it months ago. i post my review about it. Marian Cotillard isn't a knockout actress, but she is quite attractive.
I liked the 1st Rocky but then they started over doing it. I luved The Champ, Raging Bull was okay. The rest listed I have no qualms about ever watching......Of course Ali and Frazier were boxing back then also, or close to it. Today, boxing is not a a big sport. Especially with MMA now. I don't really like movies about boxing anymore. You could probably do a movie on every current champion today and spice it up.Too which I have no interest about watching another fighter in a gym practicing to make a comeback. It's all already been done too many times......
LOGAN-really disappointed. Very muddling and confusing. Not well explained. Just murky and a big let down. Sad way to end the Wolverine series. D- No Escape. Not really a horror movie. More like a lesson in stupidity. Solid action. I dislike horror movies and this wasn't scary at all. Again, many lessons in stupidity. Solid overall though. B+ Almost saw King Kong but it was in Russian and my Russian is a bit rusty, so until it has English subtitles, no mas.
I loved Cinderella Man because my dad grew up in south chicago and was a sparring partner in the local boxing clubs at the same time as that happened. He also worked in local steel mills and talked about the same stuff that happened at the gate with foremen picking their crews for the day. Tough lives back then. I think my dad would have loved that movie because I think that it really described the depression and one man's story to clawing his way back up.
I don't think Ali and Frasier and those of that generation were any kind of the greatness of boxing. Boxing to me, were those earlier and especially the welter weights, middle weights, and light heavyweights. Guys like Sugar Ray Robinson. Gene Fullmer, Carmen Basilio, LaMotta. And of course, the great great Joe Louis, Essard Charles, Archie Moore. What most people do not understand was how often those guy fought in a year. Louis used to have 8-10 fights a year. Top middle weights and welter weights fought title fights three and four times a year. That was truly the golden age of boxing. I remember sitting in our living room watching the Friday night fights with my dad. ANd he explaining what was going on in the ring. Some of the best times ever with my father
I really do not like MMA. make it one thing or the other. Make it wrestling and submission holds or keep it to boxing. I hate the wired enclosure because it makes the enclosure a part of the tactics employed. To me it is way too brutal to be a sport.
i think MMA is total barbarism. i saw a fight last week and the fight before was so brutal the mat was covered in blood. real nice. only a matter of time bf someone dies in the ring and the thing is shit canned. and as bad as any of them are - it takes 1 fist, knee or elbow and they are out. ask Chuck Liddell about that. he was Mr. Unbeatable and got hit 1 time and was out. Zzzz's. Took a nap etc. No grace in that shit. Might as well fight in the underground fight clubs then.
KONG: Skull Island! not bad! good stuff. and if you haven't seen it, watch the entire credits as there's a major shocker surprise at the end. huge. Spoiler read 2-3 more movies are coming now with Gozilla, Kong and Monthra. the movie takes the normal story out of trapping Kong and bringing him to NY and the part of he's in love with the girl, although Brie Larson is quite lovely and cute! I like the island setting. Jackson's acting and role is typical and he sucks as usual. The monsters were cool. B+
Watched "Unthinkable" last night on Netflix although they leave you hanging at the end. Good movie.......Why is Samuel L. Jackson in every other movie that comes out?
Kind'a defeats the whole purpose. That first M stands for "Mixed" - i.e., you can combine various elements of combat techniques to defeat an opponent. Wrestling is already its own sport. Ditto boxing. Ditto kick-boxing.
Stuart: A Life Backwards. Very good documentary-type film starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a writer telling the life story of homeless alcoholic Stuart Shorter (Tom Hardy).
leave u hanging with the villain or the bombs going off ? jackson is not even a good actor to be in so many movies. and since many are straight to dvd, it's not like he's making a lot for them. he sucks in Kong: Skull Island.
oh boy - our boy hardy is in it. hopefully he's better than his usual self. i did like him in warrior though. i will have to check it out.
I thought you said you liked Hardy...??? If you mean mumbling, forget it - he's a druggie and an alcoholic in this.
