Lyman, did you know "Diggstown" was going to be on this weekend...? If not, hell of a coincidence! I watched it - have to say I didn't think that much of it. Wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.
Inferno with Tm hanks was decent, except the beginning, as fish brought up..... The beginning had a lot of blurriness due to Hanks being knocked out with a drug and he couldn't remember anything. You start to wonder wtf? After that watch closely as it's one of those hard to follow movies until the end......I liked it......I'll give it a B-......
Watched "Beyond Valkerie" yesterday and forgot about coming on. Well, now about the movie. It was decent subject matter and fairly good. Worth a watch though. I'll give it a C+.......
Took a snow day yesterday and watched a couple movies, both very good. Bridge of Spies The Revenant. Four stars for Bridge of Spies; four-and-a-half for The Revenant.
still don't understand how Mark Rylance won an Oscar for Bridge of Spies. He does nothing in the movie but sulk. He brings nothing to the character or the movie. Stallone was the sentimental favorite and the Academy has rewarded a career with an acting Oscar. And Stallone was great in Creed. He makes the movie. He got robbed.
JACK REACHER-Never go Back...i never read the books, but heard Reacher should be a beast at 6'4. Cruise is 5'6 or some small figure, but it doesn't take away from the character or action. The plot is typical stuff of framing and dirty dealings, but overall I liked it. Cobie Smolders ain't too bad on the eyes either. GOLD-a crazy somewhat true story of gold, belief, deceit and greed. Crazy overall but very solid. Spoiler Ending never saw coming and the very ending was a nice touch. Well done.
axe-to me it was well made but a typical taboo love story with dire consequences. saw the ending a mile away as it's been done before.
For me, I totally disagree about the ending. Too many of those "taboo" love stories end in total tragedy - I was expecting Cate Blanchette to either 1) give up Rooney Mara entirely so she could have her daughter in her life full-time; or 2) kill herself, since the prospects seemed to be that she could never live as who/what she was. The ultimate consequences WEREN'T so dire - she got regular visitation rights AND she got the girl.
the ending is to please everyone. having either one of your options (which i like btw) are the usual endings of a taboo tragedy. i can't see Cate Blachett offing herself in this movie, so the ending is a happy go lucky one to appease the female viewers who couldn't dare see to lose either of them.
Totally disagree - the book was written more than 60 years ago. You honestly think there was huge call for lesbian happy-ending stories in 1952? And what - we never saw a heroine (or two) off themselves in a movie? Hello, Thelma and Louise...?
im talking movie, not book. Endings change all the time. im not talking T&L either. im talking Blanchett.
You said the ending was to appease female views - that's clearly not the case here, given the movie followed the book. So...big stars like Susan Sarandon and Gina Davis can off themselves, but somehow not Cate Blanchett...??? I'm sorry, but I'm not following that line of thinking at all.
forget it. i've wasted more time on a movie about 2 women than i ever wanted too. im talking blanchett in this movie. she was so hoidy doidy that i couldn't see her offing herself bc of Rooney Mara. Suicide seemed below as she portrayed her character like she was better than everyone else. T&L had no choice and committed crimes. they had to go over that cliff or spend a life in jail.
