igloo--I thought quint gave the entire story in Jaws? they were on a secret mission to deliver the bomb, no one knew of their mission, they got torpedoed, the sharks came and tons of men died bf being rescued? isn't that it?

axe-I like hardy. I just think due to his accent, he's a mumbler.

saw the remake of the magnificent 7. no need for this remake and especially not with denzel as the lead. sorry folks but black men weren't law officers when this movie took place and especially not in more than 1 state.

    good action overall. B

Saw Fences. Very solid overall. Davis who is really a major lead here will win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in a walk. Denzel and Davis both won Tony Awards as this was a play. Denzel is not his usual roles. He's an angry pissed off black man who has a grudge on everyone, including his own son for lame reasons. Good movie, but Denzel is hard to watch as he's a dick 98% of the movie. B+

Yeah, that's pretty much it Fish, but the movie was better than I expected as I wasn't expecting much......Plus I'm a BIG Nicholas Cage fan......B-.....He's getting up in age so I guess he doesn't the parts offered to him as he used too.....

Why would Hollywood try to make a mumbler a star? Plus I don't think I've ever seen the guy smile? He seems to act the same way in every movie he makes......He has no range of acting.....

Magnificent 7 has been out in Redbox and I have no urge to see it. Did they even have black sheriffs back then? I like Denzel Washington but his last couple I wasn't crazy about.......

no need to remake the Mag 7. good action, but just no need for it.

Jason Bourne-no need for this either. Great action, but lame story telling. No idea what was going on half the time. C+

    The Greatest Game Ever Played.
I had seen it before, and caught it again Tuesday night. Very Good.

    yes very solid.

a little hokey with the 17th hole on the last rd with Varden trying to go over the trees and then Ouimet wants to try it and the caddy says "there's a bunker there." no shit, they played 4 rds there, he knows its there.

they didn't mention that Ted Ray goes on to win the US Open a few years later too.

And they took a little poetic license with the final score - Ouimet actually led by 3 strokes going into the final hole, and won by 5. There was really zero drama on the 18th.

i didn't know that. great stuff Axe.

So Varden doubles the 18th? Or Ouimet birdies and Vardon bogeys?

There's a pix of all 3 guys though shaking hands. Pretty cool.

    Vardon, Ouimet and Ray.

And Axe- i think the most libertine movie is Remember the Titans. None of the games were close and they won the final in a blowout. Gerry Bertier was injured after the season heading to the team's award banquet, not bf the final. The team either all white or all black would've crushed most opponents as they were that good according to most kids on the team. Combined and it was a joke.

They left out the part that Coach Yoast was dating a player on the team's Mother and Yoast had 3 more daughters they left out completely. And the little girl they portrayed, who was a young Hayden Panittiere, in the movie, actually died in her 20's of an illness.

And there was a RB they never even mentioned in the movie. The movie just couldn't fit in any more story lines of the team with all the others players getting their movie scenes, so the RB (name escapes me) was left out. Imagine that? A movie is going to be made about your life and you were a star of the team and you are not even in the damn movie!

And Gerry's buddy Ray is totally fictional.

Ouimet was up 1 on Vardon after 16 holes, so it was still tight.

But Ouimet birdied 17 while Vardon bogeyed, so he was up 3 going into 18. Ouimet parred the 18th, Vardon double-bogeyed.

nice work Axe. Ouch on Vardon's part.

and that rain they had to play through in rd 3 in the movie was a bit much. it was a monsoon !

  14. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Good stuff. I just googled it, and it looks like they had ONE close game - a 21-16 win. But the championship was a 27-0 blowout.

No wonder they were so good: that team was a combination of three high schools that merged, so they basically fielded an all-star team.

  15. Catfish Guest

Yeah- that's why the whites and blacks said a team of each of us would win.

ESPN had a huge thing about it when the movie came out etc. the contrast of film vs fiction and the players etc. still a great movie.

  16. manosteel9423 Franchise Player Steelers

Yes, great movie. The message certainly wasn't about the football team or how good they were.

Not inclined to go back through this entire thread so if you have discussed this already . . . My apologies.

Two of my favorite movies are "Bat 21" and "Diggstown". Was curious what this group thinks of these.

  18. Catfish Guest

i liked Diggstown bc of the twist. haven't seen it in years though. a young Heather Graham never hurts anyone.

saw BAT-21 when it came out and i really dont remember it all that well. sorry.

  19. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Saw Bat 21 and liked it A LOT.

    Never saw Diggstown.

  20. igloofn68 Guest

Never saw Diggstown.....Bat 21 was fair or average, nothing special I thought.....

Saw Jack Reacher-Never go back, yesterday. Thought it was as good as the first. And Cruise doesn't seem so ego-ish in it. I think he's finally growing up and he does look older.....A+

Also watched DENIAL, I liked it, some people didn't. It's a courtroom drama about whether the Holocaust was real or false......Picked up INFERNO with Tom Hanks, I'll watch it tonight.......
