watched the end of season 1 of the AFFAIR. Half-way through the 1950's movie Guys and Dolls. So far I hate it. Ugh.
Thought I gave a report on Independence Day? I liked it better than Star Trek as I had rented them at the same time. But I can't say anywhere near the top movies ever made. Either of them. Mechanic Ressurection was not as good as the 1st. I wouldn't recommend it. Lights Out was decent for a horror flick and Anthropoid with Cillian Murphy was a good movie that I'd recommend........So out of all the movies I'd rented from Redbox over the past few weeks, Lights Out and Anthropoid are the only 2 worth watching........
see my post on the nvedia shield. now i have it and it's the greatest thing ever - i'll be watching more top movies and new releases. Arrival - critics love this movie. I really hated it and then thought about it and then somewhat thought it was okay. Spoiler The movie could have many meanings. It's all up to you. Spoiler Amy Adams looks as qualified as I do to be a languages expert. to me the movie is hokey. a lot of bullshit and nonsense and it never made a lot of sense. i do get the idea of the movie and the baffling ending, but to me it could've been a lot better. it's ok. it's not as great as the critics reviewed it. way too confusing to be great.
War Dogs. it was solid. although a real story, i doubt it happened that way. Spoiler how much of an idiot dave was for not copying the agreement between them 2. really stupid. was shocked that hill turned on him too. kind of glad he got what was coming to him at the end.
War Dogs was top notch. Don't miss it if you have a chance ti see it.......I wasn't expecing it to be as good as it was.........Excellent film!!!!
Nocturnal Animals - could've been a lot better. Really disappointing on both sides of this story within a story. For that alone C+ Passengers. Boring as hell and just lame. No idea why Jennifer Lawrence is so famous. She can't act her way out of a wet lunchbag. Lame substory plot of the ship as well. Just lame overall. C Assassin's Creed- thank God this was free! Gadzooks it sucked. Way too confusing and muddled down. Could've been a lot better too. Somehow after taking a huge loss at the box office, still talks of a sequel. avoid, avoid, avoid. D+
in the Valley of Violence. Wow - could've been a lot better. Kind of weird in the whole Spoiler revenge plot was over a dog. now i live dogs, but he went crazy after his beloved dog was killed. No idea why Travolta had to be a Marshall in a town of 10 people? it was ok. C+
LIVE BY NIGHT. --- Spoiler well most of the trailer on tv is the first 25 min of the movie. then it jumps to tampa where its a little slow. the big hitch with Elle Fanning is a bit of a joke as killing her off would be so easy and it wouldn't bring that much heat down on them as she was a teenage girl! she wasn't some famous Pastor. The end is kind of odd too that 2 rivals batch things up when the casino doesnt get built but the Italian guy still gets his $11 mil a month. is he that greedy? $11 mil a month is insane for that time era. overall solid. not the best gangster movie ever, but not the worst. i saw it on free gift cards i got for Christmas. Free popcorn and soda too. B+
I read the book - it's by Dennis Lehane. He also wrote "Gone, Baby, Gone," "Mystic River," "Shutter Island," and "The Drop."
i liked 3 of these a lot. i didn't like the drop. the ending of mystic river was disappointing, but solid overall. the acting of GBG was a bit of a letdown especially near the end from Casey Affleck and Ed Harris. that bar scene is so bad. i loved shutter island. never saw that ending coming.
Live By Night was a book too ? Doesn't anyone use original material anymore? No wonder I can't get my foot into Hollywood! 7 original screenplays and they keep using books and remakes. ugh. haha
Finally got around to Suicide Squad. Liked it more than most I suppose but it could have been so much more. There was absolutely no need for the Joker to be in this movie other than the flashback showing Harley as his Dr. Everything Joker related that should have been scrapped and devoted more of the movie to the Squad members. I would have also reversed the casting of Deadshot and Flag and played flag up as the hero a bit more. Hopefully it gets a second go around where they put a bit more work into making it better.
agreed Jean. many of the joker's scenes were cut and that was their mistake. Leto was in a far more of the movie and they cut him out. bad move.
LA LA LAND. More like Z Z Land. Spoiler terrible. a musical that's not really a musical and just bad. their voices weren't even that good. it's not like West Side Story and Natalie Wood. So predictable too. Could've been so much better. if it didn't star Gosling and Stone, it would be a flop. It SHOULD NOT win any Acting or Best Picture Oscars. It's really overrated. And even their dancing was staged and lame too. ugh.
