but he tells ripley near the end "i checked on a thomas ripley at Princeton who works in the music department." ripley told dickie's dad he knew dickie from Princeton. surely the fact that he didn't go there and wasn't the same thomas ripley in the music department would alarm a detective, no?

the whole point to princeton was that ripley said he went there so when he met dickie he can say he was a classmate of his. even paltrow asks him "did he go with you to princeton?" his answer "i don't think so, i really don't remember."

if im looking into ripley as a suspect - the fact that he never went there is odd from the jump. why go along with this ploy if he never met dickie in the first place? why hire him to befriend dickie then? so odd. and mr. greenleaf gives him all dickie's money when dickie is dead via the suicide note. thanks for the money and i killed your son. haha

It WAS the same Ripley. Ripley was a piano tuner at Princeton, but he wasn't a student there.

Dickie also said Princeton was a fog and America was a fog. They're enough of a fog that he chalks it up to simply not remembering.

They weren't looking at Ripley as a suspect.

Because Ripley never said he DIDN'T know Dickie. Mr. Greenleaf assumes he does, and Ripley doesn't do anything to dissuade him of that (he even asks "How's Dickie?")

but if paltrow is convinced ripley killed him for various reasons - the rings, his affection for her etc, wouldn't they listen to her for a little bit to check into him? i mean if anyone was that close to my son and he kills himself but no body can be found and freddy miles is murdered, tom knew both so why wouldn't they check it out? i mean the italian cop did and i think he thought ripley did kill them until he was replaced by the bald cop who flat out asked him if he did it.

Mr. Greenleaf and the investigator thought Paltrow was just defending her boyfriend.

They DID check him out - they found he WAS at Princeton, and they also found Dickie had a violent past and a connection with the dead girl in Italy. The checking pointed to Dickie, not Tom.

    ok axe. i'll drop it.

Saw "Draft Day" last night. Bleh. Wasn't horrible (it WAS about football and the draft, after all), but it just felt like such a by-the-numbers pastiche of "remembrances" of actual events (Manning v. Leaf; Joe Montana seeing John Candy in the stands at the super Bowl) plus the "typical" college prospects: a linebacker who's immensely talented but might be an emotional risk, the star running back who's the son of a team legend, the hot-shot QB who might not be all he's cracked up to be...

axe-i agree but the trading for picks costner does was a little far-fetched. haha

  8. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Completely. He dishes 3 2nd rounders for the #6 pick overall...? Really? Fire Buffalo's GM.

But the initial trade (3 #1s to move from 7th to 1st) sounds almost EXACTLY like what the Redskins sent to the Rams for RG3.

  9. Catfish Guest

    dont tell washington that. haha

  10. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

I don't have to - they're reminded that they actually gave up MORE (3 #1s plus a #2) to move up from #6 to #2 (not even from #7 to #1) every time they see RG-Me.

    haha axe.

saw gone girl again. still hate the last 30 min of it. makes 0 sense.

  12. i watched gone girl a week or so ago for the first time.

i am not impressed with the trend lately of people thinking movies are great because they have a "clever" [sic] plot twist. unlike u, cat, i won't be watching it a second time ;)

  13. Catfish Guest

yeah lulz i shouldn't have watched it again.

    *WALL*

  14. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Saw "The Last King of Scotland" last night. Very good.

  15. Catfish Guest

good stuff. i always miss the scene when they kill kerry washington and switch her arms and legs on her body.

mcavoy was great as was whitaker.

  16. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

I don't think they "switched" them; they were just sewn back on VERY crudely. She actually was dismembered (after she died during a botched abortion).

McAvoy was excellent. Interesting tidbit: there never was such a person as Dr. Nicholas Garrigan.

  17. Catfish Guest

yeah knowing that sucked. i was hoping for the guy to be real.

mcavoy was in it more than whitaker is seemed like and he wasn't even nominated. he's also good as Professor Xavier in the X-Men movies.

  18. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Also hardly even recognized Gillian Anderson in LKoS.

  19. Catfish Guest

  20. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

I wasn't even sure it was her until I saw the closing credits.
