saw birdman with michael keaton. he and edward norton are great. the movie is silly and just odd. if i didn't read a review of it earlier i would've been a little lost. keaton will get an oscar nom for sure.
It's really despicable the fraud Hollywood is perpetrating on viewers. Not only do we have re-make after re-make after re-make, now we're having entire series "re-booted." The Spider-man movies (with Tobey Maguire) kicked off in 2002...and just 10 years later they re-booted it...?!?! Worthless.
axe--i read another 10-14 more comic book movies are coming. ant man and other characters i didn't know were even out there. ugh.
saw foxcatcher - absolutely cruel, psychotic, gripping, stunning, terrifying, sad, deep, and a million other words. carrell, who i really dislike, was stunning and brilliant. in most years, he would walk away with the Oscar. This year he will probably lose to Eddie Redmayne for Stephen Hawking. The movie is not for everyone as it's sick and twisted but man it was really solid. Channing Tatum was awesome too and may get Oscar buzz and Mark Ruffalo was a brother everyone wants but never had. A++++ Super film!
ok, i hadn't seen it yet, so i watched Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines the other night. worth watching. good action, the new terminator's a babe... and i now have a new all time favorite movie line. surprisingly, IMDB doesn't even have it on the quotes page. Spoiler I'll drive.
her name is kristen lokken or something like that. yeah she's hot. arnold is in the terminator reboot. i read the synopsis - it's insane. cyborgs with kids etc.
saw when the game stands tall. one of the most boring sports movies i ever saw. lackluster. didn't care about most of the characters. a lot of hype for nothing. could been a decent movie but totally done wrong. oh well.
I saw A Most Wanted Man. Despite the big names in the cast, I wasn't distracted, which is rare for me. I thought the characters and their development were both excellent, the dialogue pretty good or better, and there was enough subtle suspense to keep it moving for me. I'm not sure how popular it was or wasn't but I thought it was one of the better movies I've watched the last few years. It's a shame Philip Seymour Hoffman won't be doing any more movies, I found him unbelievably good and convincing in his role. Somehow the movie, which touches so many polarizing political issues, was able to stay above and out of the way of most of it too. I never thought any of the political storylines were bigger than the story of the characters even though they were there at every part of the flick. I found that to be rare and entertaining for this type of movie, the political or peripheral storylines tend to take over in most cases and I think that takes away from quite a few otherwise good movies. That did not happen in this one. Because of the story, pace, and the lack of "booyah" stuff for the commericals, I don't recommend it to everybody. If anybody liked the characters and/or story of Tinker-Taylor-Soldier-Spy, I would strongly recommend this one more. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1972571/
hbob - i saw it and fell asleep. i thought it was boring and seeing rachel mcadams and hoffman do accents is like seeing me do Shakespeare in the park! i liked it till i fell asleep!
Terminator Salvation - bored me. nothing about this movie stood out to me. Gravity - very disappointing. don't bother. Pitch Black - vin diesel is like stallone in the sense that he plays one character well. he's unlike stallone in that u can actually understand him when he talks. plus, i'm always happy to look at radha mitchell. i don't regret watching it, and i'll make a point of watching the chronicles of riddick now, as that character was introduced in this film.
lulz--gravity was brutal. hated it with a passion. how she gets back in the chinese capsule makes no sense. she can read the manual in chinese now? so dumb. the best part of the movie is a scene they almost used as the ending according to the director... same ending but when she crawls out of the water and on land -- clooney's dead body lands on here and kills her. i doubt his body would make it past reentry but if that was the real ending, this movie gets an A+++++++ hahahahaha
LOL - yes, his body would have burned up on reentry. but that's funny, and would definitely have gone a long way toward salvaging the movie i LOVE good sci-fi. gravity doesn't qualify.
I've seen a couple since last visiting this - mostly a TV show watcher, but a have a handful of movies always queued up. Still have to see the first two Hobbit movies so I can catch this last one in theaters. I've only got one recent one off the top of my head: Much Ado About Nothing (Joss Whedon's version): If you're a Shakespeare fan like I am, you can't go wrong. Not sure what to say about it, really - just phenomenal. Cast was fantastic, they did a great job of keeping the right dialogue, and it was really done with both a lot of class and a lot of entertainment. The scenes with Don John were a bit painful - obviously that's part of the intent, but I didn't think the guy playing Borachio did a particularly good job, and I don't know how to feel about having a woman play Conrade. It worked for them, Conrade, and it did feel pretty natural. Sean Maher (Don John) is usually great, but he was a bit stale. But, honestly, I'm being nitpicky. If you're a Shakespeare fan, you owe it to yourself to watch it. Very well done, and the writing itself is worthy of watching great actors speak it.
lulz- yes it was and favored to win until 12 yrs a slave caught wind and won. and bullock up for best actress! she didn't do anything.
for you history buffs - go rent on netflix the men who built america. it's a 3 disc series from the history channel. wow. i learned more from the first disc than i did in college! it factors mainly on carnegie, jp morgan, rockafeller, ford, and vanderbuilt. they were brilliant men but mean as an ogre. very well done and highly recommended.
best picture and best actress? wow. anyone who tells me the academy has any credibility needs moron tattooed on their forehead.
